A friend came to help me jump start the Zed as the batter is flat. Unfortunately he put the leads on the wrong way on his van. Result was smoke from the fuse box.

Pulled the cables and removed the fuse but where do I get a replacement from ? Its the one furthest from the fuel pump. Mine is blue with a loop of thick wire on top.

The wire has melted. Hopefully that is all that its done.

Does anyone have a spare ? I really need to get it going for tomorrow.

It is clear to me which is the positive side on my daughters saxo, seeing as she has been having issues with her battery and there is a possibility it could let her down, she a booster on board with her, I have put some red tape on the plus side of her battery to make it obvious, sure there is a lesson there for your friend :hammer:

il admit i did something simular battery died i cahrged it up with the charger but the cables had been "fixed" took the end clips as gospel and charged the battery reverse polarity when i conneted it up fizz hiss bang. bit of smoke. obviously a new battery was needed. but once i did that everything was fine it hadnt actually blown the fuse or done any damage. taht was about i dunno 9 months ago now.

I've got a spare but it will take a day to get to you with me being so far away.

Must be a few breakers closer !

Jaikai - How much do you want for it and delivery ?

You'd be quicker popping into your local nissan dealer with it and getting a new one.

While your waiting, do an ECU diagnostic to se if it throws up any error codes on the ECU as to why it wouldn't start.

Though you've changed the fuel pump relay and fuel pump, the ECU sends a signal to the relay and that part can blow, albeit rarely!

The worst thing I've did and gave me a bloody big shock was use a long spanner to tighten the positive bolt and accidentally touch the metal battery support bar in the middle which of course is grounded to the chassis.

Had my own fire works display for a bit as I jumped out my skin.

I now put a cloth over the other terminals do that won't happen again.

Lesson learned.

I've done this! haha. Also with my old classic mini i was tightening the possitive battery connector and dropped the spanner onto the negative. Lots of sparks! managed to knock it off before it damaged anything, but i did burn my thumb when i picked up the spanner not realising how hot it would be :p

As the thread has gone on such a tangent, I once had a Landrover Series II and dropped a spanner in the engine. It managed to lodge near the starter motor resulting in it having power ! luckily when the engine started, it was in neutral. 5 minutes earlier it was in first ... Very lucky as 1m forward was the living room with me between.

Back on subject, will try calling Nissan tomorrow and If Jaikai sends his spare, I should get it sorted soon. Unless someone closer comes up with one.

i remember my old man refitting a battery on an old bedford tk and the battery literally exploded!.....showered him with acid and plastic 'shrapnel'.his one eye was never the same after that, but he was bloody lucky to be honest.

Lee - Thats OK and thanks for looking.

Good old Jeff is helping me out with the bits to get sorted.

Well if you need anything i've just pulled 3 complete looms out of the breaker this weekend so i've got all the wiring you'll need including interior fuse boxes and i work in Lutterworth so i can drop them off tomorrow if need be.

Cheers,

Nick

Thanks for that, hopefully the parts I need will arrive from Jeff tomorrow. How much do you want for the engine bay loom as it could do with repalcing anyway?
