As some of you know I'm restoring a UK 300zx to original, the car has 45k on it with a full Nissan service history and all paper work to back this up, the cars never been crashed or abused as I know all the previous owners

As well.

The only none standard parts are the exhausts which is a full stainless system I also have the original system.

What's the car worth to sell full done with a pro paint job as well to the standard black it came out of the showroom with?

The reason I ask this is not to sell but how much to spend on paint and prep, I have a decision to make!!!

Thanks,

Daz.

Could be worth contacting your insurance company,

see if they will give you an agreed evaluation.

At least that way you will be well covered if nothing else.

I would have valued yours about there to be honest condition dependant, I was thinking 5k or there abouts.

Mines undergoing a full restore Baz to absolute original, the reason I'm asking is the paint job is being done soon and it's in the region of £1500, I want the car to be as good as new to drive and if I do sell I want the new owner to enjoy the amount of work I have put in.

Just want to drive her now!!!!

There was one that had done 20,000 miles from new, that was around 9k iirc. You'll basically get one someone is prepared to pay for it, if its afull nut and bolt concours jobbie it could be lots more.

hey Daz how's it going mate? I sold my standard UK spec a few years ago for over £5K. If it's mint low mileage gotta be worth over £6K IMO but best on a forecourt. Then again why not just drive a nice mint looking 300zx which will look like you're driving £20K worth lol

The plan is to keep and enjoy her but I don't want to spend more than she's worth I've done that once when I got married!!!

Hope the wife dose'nt see this!!!

Let me know when she gives you your balls back after reading that!

I assume Nissan would already have a completely stock Z32 for displays etc?

I remember reading an article a few years back about Toyota buying back a completely stock AE86 that was mint. It had been dry stored in an old boys garage for 20 odd years and had really low mileage....they kept it as a show piece I believe

I don't want to spend more than she's worth

When you own a Zed that's what you do though!

It's only a 1.5K paint job that you will not get back, fact!

It will add a little extra value and certainly make it more appealable to many, thus increasing your chances of selling it on when the time comes which in itself could be priceless.

Either way it comes down to 2 points,

1) It's worth what is to you to own it.

2) It's worth whatever it is to gain a sale in the future based on what someone is prepared to pay and that sadly is the great unknown.

The tight tw@t only paid about £50 for it lol

I'm sure you'd be able to find a friend of a friend who would be willing to do the paint job cash in hand

Several years ago I approached a car repair place in Bromyard and asked how we could get around the £2k+ price tag of a full paint job, in the end we agreed that if I did all the prep work (which took me about 2 weeks) and if I supplied the paint, then he would sort the rest in his spare time for £500 cash in hand. He did a great job and it looked mint afterwards....then the zed went to Swindon

got quoted by the body shop who did artztogos paint job, £1200 to spray my whole car, which i think is damn cheap and very good price considering his work is top notch.

He also quoted me £600 to repair the rear end of my old zed, fit the front bumper, spray both parts to match the original paint work. so the guy really does do good deals.

I recently spent £2500 on a paint job for my restored UK zed. £540 of the bill was just for the paint. I'd done a massive amount of prep on the car before hand but it still needed 16hours of labour by the bodyshop to get it perfect. In total I've spent well over 10k on restoring my car but I had already accepted that I wasn't going to get that money back.

When finished I would value my zed around the 5k mark but as I will never sell it that's all academic really.

To be fair i think Daz knows his way around the business and will likely get as good a paint deal as anyone. He is doing the math (sensible chap) and I still reckon a really nice low mileage unmolested UK car will see nearer £6K than £5K if put on a forecourt and would sell easily.

Didn't mean to sound as though I was having a go mate, just saying what I'd had done :)

lol I wasn't having a go no worries. It's just that the thread turned into advice on how to go about getting car sprayed cheaply rather then what it was worth and the chances are Daz already knows how to do that - sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong :)

Most of us on here spend an awful lot more on our cars than they'll ever be worth - I'm probably the biggest culprit - and I think Daz might turn out to be one of the exceptions.

I had a UK spec unmodified zed for about 4 years and sold it for the same money I had paid pretty much. It's gotta be worth respray 'if' he's gonna keep it but if he's gonna sell I would just tidy it up and still probably make the same sorta dough.

Play nicely lads and no offence taken anyone and thanks for the opinons and advice as I said on my original post in the newbies section I would be asking!!!

If I keep the car it has to be right that's how I build them and if I decide to sell I want to be proud that the person who buys it knows the work and care and sometimes the love that's gone in to the car.

It's got to be right or don't bother, why do a job twice, and I'm getting a soft spot for the Zed!!!!!!

hi but if you gonna keep it cost doesnt come in to it .ive spent £2000 and ive stil got bits and pieces to do including a paint job .i now every nut and bolt if you gonna keep it and you want it to look nice then as far as in concerned cost doesnt come in to it .just remmeber its gonna be a future classic which means the price will go up but thats your decision

Uk manual tt with a respray virtually standard still wouldn't pay more than a grand

lol

i would agree around the 5-6k mark would be a realistic price as said though buyers a far and few between. having said that a stock car will always be worth more in the long run. just enjoy the car for what it is, as im sure you know making cars make money is generally a fools game. keep it stock keep it mint sit on it one day it will be worth money.

You can't sell anyway. You live in Manchester and you are already pencilled in for convoys next year. Bored of having to drive to all our do's alone!
