Thinking of replacing our current main car Audi a3 1.8t with a 350z, anyone got any experience with them.

looking to spend up to around 7k

as far as i can tell there is only the gt pack as an option and later cars had a bit more power. the rays wheels are a must for me

had a look at a couple before ending up with a honda s2000, nice cars well built and quite comfy just dident feel fast i think they are just a bit to heavy, like you say need the gt pack with the brembo's and rays. should be able to get one for that.

Very nice cars. My own problem is that it's a 2-seater which is no good for me. Unfortunately there aren't many 2+2s, which is what makes the Z32 unique.

nice car, not sure if she would go for that colour but seems a good price and the rims are sweet.

Dont get me wrong I do quite like them but theyre a bit soft. The z32 makes them look silly in a straight line, theyre about the same on fuel, more to tax and insure. Not to mention the deprication on them, will be buying tbey to brake for the wheels and gh he brakes if they get any cheaper. If you want a daily theyre plenty out there in that budjet that will be better value for money, snd you dtill have the 300 for driving pr.operly.end

the best colour is the blue. and yes a turbo can beat it in a straight line, who hasnt watched Top Gear? but in corners the turbo will be left behind. The handling is good. the finish is either to your taste or not ( the '3 dots' everywhere is not the best brand recognition idea I have seen) and I think they sound a little unfinished. When you shut the door they are a bit tinny, not so solid sounding.

Torque is good. you can drive along all day before noticing you had the handbrake on. The ESP will save your life its that good.and while you dont get rear seats you do get a woofer speaker the size of a Mexicans hat in their place.

Working on them- spark plugs are swapped in half an hour infact the basics are easily done. everything major is.. major. the engine bay is packed. You will never see the engine number! the boot is tiny too because the strut brace is there to be seen.

&Reliable. so damn realiable.

350's drive alright, you need to rev them though if you want to get moving 'swiftly'. They feel like a nice solid car to be in. I tried a few out a few years ago and very nearly got one, but the wife made me change my mind due to the lack of back seats (even though it was just a to and from work car!).

They are still in my mind today, epecially with the drop in price, they would make a nippy, comfortable day to day car tbh, look nice too imho with the rays and dropped.

I have both and if I would need to compare my 350z to my 300ZX, I get the following list:

cons:

-build quality is far below the 300ZX...especially interior and some of the 350Z's I've seen and looked at were already starting to rust quite alarming

-powerwise they are a bit tame...and there's no easy/cheap way to increase power noticeably (and keep the same reliability).

-they don't seem to draw as much attention as the 300ZX

-the 350Z seems to be more noisy inside at motorway speeds (tire noises inside the car)

-350Z is only available as a 2 seater, which may be a problem for some people...but in that case you could look at a G35 or skyline V35, which is basically a 350Z 2+2

pros:

-350Z has a very good and reliable engine (VQ35), as long as kept untouched..when super/turbocharged things may go wrong and reliability can become an issue.

-350's are a lot less thirsty...uses about 40-50% less fuel then a 300ZX.

-has very good handling and sticks to the road like glue.

Also has a good traction control system and the body is far more rigid then the 300ZX.

-better brakes (standard vs. standard)

-has a very nice exhaust sound (imo)

-350Z is very comfortable and I prefer the 350Z over the 300ZX to drive long distances.

-350Z has more safety features (lots of airbags and electronic aids like traction control/ESP)

thanks for the responses guys

im not looking to replace my zed and to be honest im not going to really compare the two. the mrs doesnt really like the 300 but has wanted a 350 for ages and she is not too concerned with the performance, however the good handling and decent traction control are important.

going to look at one tomorrow, its a blue 04 gt pack car with rays on it. looks very nice but has quite high miles (100k). i think its a bit over priced considering the mileage at 6.5k but its a buyers market for this sort of car at the moment so if hes not prepared to budge (assuming she likes it) then there are plenty more out there

I've had a 350z roadster for 3 years now. Best Z I've ever had. Not going to knock the 300 as I love the shape but I wouldn't have another after the 350. superb trouble-free motoring which means a lot these days. There was always something to do on the 300 only put petrol etc in the 350 in comparison. I just love it. Prices are very good for purchasers atm and there are good deals to be had. High milage seems no problem with the mechanicals. good advice from the owners club site and you can get various add on parts to improve styling, performance and handling if that's your bag mine is standard and I love it.

I think the key difference is that the 300 was first released in 1989 where as the 350 came along 14 years later in 2003. Purely from an engineering and human evolution perspective, you would expect some improvement, and there certainly are, even if they are limited due to Nissan's financial position at the time. The 350 was developed within a certain budget, where as the 300 was designed to be the best at the time (within reason of course).

The 350 will therefore be far more comfortable and economical, and should be a much nicer car to drive on a day-day basis. It will also have newer features and some useful gadgets that simply were not around in 1989.

For me the biggest issue is the fact it's a 2-seater (as is the 370). For that reason, I'll stick to the 300.
