Insurance

Help !

I'm having a nightmare finding companies that are willing to insure an imported 300ZX TT. It's got non standard wheels and an Apex'i boost controller installed.

Has anyone got any suggestions please.

You could try Budget Insurance Services 0800 316 0241. I've just bought a jap import 91 Fairlady Z (the non TT 300ZX). I never found anyone prepared to quote me less than £650, but that included fully comprehensive with business use. They basically shop around to get you a good quote. If you're not using the car as a daily driver and are prepared to go for a limited mileage insurance then you could try Hill House Hammond. I use them to insure my 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 (410 bhp), I'm limited to 5000 miles per year, and it costs me £230'ish per year fully comp. Their number is 0800 068 3866.

Best of luck,

Rob

Privilege Insurance (part of Direct Line).

Not cheap, but a reputable company when/if you need to claim!

I compiled a list of companies that people have sucessfully used in the past. Bear in mind that many use the same underwriters and whether they choose to quote on an import depends upon the direction of the wind that day. I have been refused quotes from Hill House Hammond and Norwich Union Direct in the past.

Just to add - I insure my zed (after SERIOUS BALL ACHES trying to get quoted and sorted) with:

Insurance Factory

0870-200 6006

Talk to Gareth.

I pay £475 with Wheels, Exhaust, Intake, Bodykit which will rise by £49/year when I add my boostcontroller and Unichip ECU.

I have zero NCD and its is a second car.

Bargain but it is under classic car and with restricted miles, no commuting and garaged at a crime free Postcode.

Good luck mate,

Sabre Insurance did it for me through Budget Insurance..couldn't find anyone cheaper. Less than 650!

Feck me it must be my age. Im paying £970 TPFT. 4 years NCB with only an exhaust. Thats with Insurance Factory. They did say they really only take on people 15 or over. Im still at the tender age of 22. It really doesnt help.

Stuart

Budget Insurance don't quote for imports!

I'm with A-Plan too and they were cheap (£700 ish) on my import with mods, bodykit, 6 points on my license, not garaged. No problems sorting it all out either as they seem very knowledgable about non-standard stuff.

You need the Specialist Vehicle Division at Thatcham as the normal branches don't handle imports. I think the number above is right though.

Norwich Union Direct were a fraction cheaper but were a pain in the ass to get things organised and couldn't manage to cover me whilst I moved house 2 months later. Said they would have to re-quote after I moved and they wouldn't guarantee it would be the same price even though I gave them the address and it was a "better" area.

A-Plan just said no probs whichever address I'm at whilst moving.

Hmmm...Norwich Union won't touch you if you want to do anything more than intake and exhaust. I'm currently with them but moving to A-plan when I can afford to get my baby chipped....

Cheers,

Try Tesco insurance, ive got a import twin turbo and i insured it fully comp for £640, Its got exhausts and a stereo otherwise standard. Im 23 with five years no claims. Tesco insurance - 0845 3004400

You try getting it that cheap in London frown.gif

I'm currently payin £1100ish. 27 years old, full no claims. Did manage to find it for about £850 (300ZX TT import 1990) that was with elephant.co.uk.

I followed the post Senna made a couple of days ago (see above for company link) and I got a quote for £405 Fully Comp on 5K annual mileage - some benefits of living in Cumbria - well the only benefit actually

Nice one Mark smile.gif

I am well chuffed with my policy!

Stu, Where do you live? Im 22 with 4 years NCB no accidents and they wanted £1900 fully comp on a UK Z.

I live in Ipswich, i guess its different for everyone depending on the area, £1900's a bit excessive though.Another goodun was privelige.co.uk.Have u considered third party fire & theft? it might be an option mate.

I am TPFT. Down to £912 this year with A-Plan. I live in Wigan which is not a high crime rate area.

Just confuses me you being only 1 year older than me, with 1 year more NCB, but having an import and its so cheap. How many miles do you do a year?

I would have had 5 years but my Astra got nicked and my insurance company would not change my car from an Astra to the ZX because they wouldnt have insured me on a ZX. So I canceled it with 3 months left till the end.

Stuart

Thats damn harsh m8.I said i do 8000 miles a year with no protected no-claims, sorry i couldnt help m8

Budget do quote for imports...as Im insured with sabre through them. Mines a Fairlady Z direct from Japan. It's even on my certificate. May have changed their tune lately but they have sent a renewel form through with details on...It's also got OZ Racing 17" Split Rims too..and that was about £20 differnce..but glad to say they only want £540 this year...

Stu I'm based in leicester. Shit hole I know but someone's gotta own a Zed there...everyone else drives a Beemer...

Stu, I called Budget for a quote and I told them the car was a 91 Fairlady zxTT and all ok until I said that it was an jap import. They then said "Sorry we can't provide quotes for imported cars". Just repeating what they said to me.

Direct Line are still the best for me - approx £625.00 and they allow 6 mods - with the FULL Strosek conversion counting as ONE!

6 Years NCB, parked on the drive (gated) and I'm in my late 30's eheh!!
