I'd say they affect the handling - not to mention that they look a bit crap too......:whistling:

Just my opinion of course - I thought the stretched tyre look was part of the European VW scene; and even then just for shows and not proper road use....

Richard:confused1:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

haha thought i might get that response! Deep dishes are part of the Euro scene though and they are widely accepted by the zedding community. I believe deep dishes and stretched tyres go hand in hand....

But i guess reducing the amount of tread on the road can only mean a sideways zed when driving in the rain??

Do stretched tyres affect performance and handling??

IMO....IMO...IMO.

Yes they do affect performance and handling ... in a negative may.

More importantly anyone doing this to extremes is exceeding the Tyre /Car manfuacturers reccomendations/guidelines

Just the sort of this a Loss adjuster working for an Insurance company will pick up on as a reason to duck out of paying up.

Over zealous coppers/ DOT roadside checkers will no doubt see them as a reason to take action against the driver.

thought stretched tyres were to make you lose grip, thats why they are big in the drift scene.

with no side wall movement to help they have a lower grip tolerance range

Isnt there a chance fo them coming away from the rim i saw some on a golf tonight on me way home from work

It's both a Euro thing and a drift thing, I personally see it as an almost sure fire way to scratch your rims sooner with all the pot holes, drain covers and "bumps" in our roads these days. Roses car has rather stretched rims, if it weren't for the fact that they're half reasonable tyres and we have lots of stuff to spend on right now, I'd be replacing them. Mine unfortunately are more dangerous than hers, they fit the rims better, but they're a really hard compound with a crap tread pattern, so I get spinny wheels a lot.

dont doo it the zed needs every mm of back end rubber to keep in firmly in a straight line. plus the aspects of over streched tyres popping off the rim, mid corner. its a fashion fad from the world of four pot engines and bonnet bras.

If its more important how your car looks, than how it actually drives, then tyre stretching is awesome!

When I buy clothes I go to the children's isles, usually for 11-12 year olds. When I put those t-shirts on it makes me look totally ripped (and fat)! My girlfriend said I look stupid - so I told her to wait until I'd put the trousers on. I could see she was well impressed really. Made my trouser maggot look like a python.. Not.

Tyre stretching is stupid and strictly for people who think cars should wear bras. :cursing:

For this reason exactly. Don't do it on your daily drive, unless your using your daily drive in BDC etc!

If tyres are fitted to a wheel that is outside the manufacturer's spec for that tyre then it voids your insurance, may be against Construction & Use Regs (hence illegal) and, according to one site I looked at comes under

Section 4a of the 'I LOOK A COMPLETE TOOL AND AM BEGGING TO BE PULLED OVER' Act 2008

I would also put my money (and your life) on the fact that this won't perform as well as the tyres are supposed to. Sidewalls are designed the way they are by that nice Mr Dunlop to give stiffness and support to the tread and contact patch plus, as you know from F1, form part of the dynamic suspension of your vehicle. Why would you want to f*** that up? Oh, and the stretch doesn't exactly help the bead stay where it should be (that is, firmly attached to the wheel.) Accident waiting to happen, really.

For show cars, fine. For use on the Queen's Highway, no.

If it doesn't come under S4a, then it deffo comes under S4b "Looking like a complete tool who has no idea of how car engineering works."

I have stretched tyres on my 300........ But they are not to the extreme. I wanted a very minimal amount of stretch, just enough to expose the wheel rim beyond the tyre. As you can see in my pics, it is not noticable, unless you look to the side, and I think this looks good.......

If 2 positive comments and 10 negative ones translate into "most of you are pro", can I borrow a fiver off you?

If you had the right size wheels on the back, they take 225s anyway hoho.

Oh yes matey, without a doubt!!! :punk:

I have a touch of stretch on mine also and I must say it does look the best on Silver Z's
