can anyone tell me is it best to drive with the overdrive switched off around town or is it easier to leave it permanantly switched on

If you are just tootling around town, it shouldnt make much difference at low speed, you need to be doing about 40mph or so before it kicks in.

IMO it's best to leave the OD on permanently unless you have no need for the car to go into top gear.

However if you're booting it around the country lanes or enjoying a spirited drive up hill and down dale, then switch it off so that you can maintain the high revs for quicker turbo spool-ups.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I'm with Richard, I tend to leave mine (When I've had autos in the past) on all the time unless I'm giving it some stick. My last couple of autos were auto/tiptronic though, so I didn't have to worry about overdrive ever being off, because if I was in the mood for fun, I flicked the stick over to tip and away we went :D
