We all know the Zed is a potent beast - but how many have kept your foot in all the way until it runs out of puff in 5th?

Please do not tell me where or when you tried this - I shall assume it was on a private road / airfield / race track - or in Germany. Irrespective of where or when - what's the fastest you have been in your Zed AND what's the fastest you've been in any car??

The fastest I've been in my Zed is 145 (ish).

The fastest I've ever been was flat-out, at an indicated 165mph, in my mates R33 GTS.

You sure it didn't feel quicker cos you were sat in the passenger seat?? I always make that mistake. First time I let my mate drive my car, I can remember thinking JESUS CHRIST that's quick. Plus my mate weighs about 18 stone, so he's a fair bit of ballast to lug around!

So nobody hit the limiter in top then? Or does the engine run out of puff before it gets there?

No another 1000 rpm or so to go i think, just runs out of puff. To be honest i dont know why nissan gave it such a long final drive! its probably geared for almost 200mph in 5th gear on the limiter! lol

My honda prelude has a 112mph limiter, but can hit that at 8200rpm in 4th, so still have another gear to go! lol.

just done a quick calculation..

25 x 7.2 = 180mph (if the redline is at 7200rpm..) - so what you're saying sounds about right. I recall someone saying the turbos are all out of puff at about 6500rpm (162.5 mph), so effectively after that point you've got about 250hp trying to push through air (maybe a little more depending on mods).

I think 160mph is more than enough, its the acceleration thats fun.

Fastest i have drove a car is round 137 but it was not a zed, the fastest as a passanger is around 180!

It was not me!!!

FAKE!!

If the car really was pushing that speed, why is the rev gauge swinging around the 2k mark? I am to believe that at 180mph someone had dipped the clutch (that would be very silly)? Changing down at that speed would destroy the engine and probably crash the car to. Also the Techtom seems to be suggest the engine temp is about 73 (i.e: not very warm).

Prove me wrong by any means, but I reckon the car is infact, stationary. :tt2:

i had a 325i se highly modded it also bypassed the higher revs and over swung in every gear, just a thought, scary though and used to make my mates think wtf! :D

I had 160 on the clock, but I know the speedo reads just above 100 when the GPS reads 110mph! It felt too fast and dangerous, so it wasn't for long.

that would mean this zed is reving at around 14,000 rpm?? i dont think so

no that would just be silly, i was not comparing it directly to this, just thought worth a mention ;)

Having regular stock-ish UK spec cars restricted to 156mph, I have managed 159mph and 160mph in the 2 ZXs I have owned.

It was verified by my sat nav - although the cars felt like they had a little more to give - the limiter just stopped it.....LOL

Aside from the ZX, I have hit the 155mph restriction in both SLK350s I have owned; also I once drove a Lister prepped V12 Jaguar at 180mph. And finally I had a go in a (supposed) 600bhp Supra twin turbo, in which I clocked over 300km/h before I ran out of track and had to hit the brakes......:surrender:

I cannot comment on the accuracy of the Jag and Soop though - in those days there was no GPS.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i guess he could have dropped the clutch and its started to slow down, however i do tend to agree taht the boost gauge being in the neg and the revs reading just over 2000 does tend to point out this picture is fake.

Slow down Pab's you are hitting my type of speed lol

To be honest Gaz, if i was in the zed, i might have even hit 60!

Not exactly sure - the gearbox ratios are the same I think, its just the diff which is different. I would guess there's something like a 10% difference between the two. If, hyperthetically, a TT is geared for 180, then a N/A would be about 160. Although, going on whats been said here, I think you're looking at about 140mph all done - possibly more if you start tweaking the engine. If you're running down hill with a tail wind, then you'd probably hit 150! If you drive it off a cliff, you should get upto about 180 if you have enough height..

Fastest I have ever been is 130 mph in my mates Escort Cossie and that was going back a few years. Was a passenger too when he did roughly the same speed and I shat myself!! It was a far better feeling driving rather than not driving at those type of speeds! Rather have my fate in my own hands I guess!! :)

Actually if you drive it off a cliff you will reach about 120 mph no matter how high it is due to terminal velocity :)

I think for the purpose of this argument, you are right. If the car fell horizontally it probably would only reach about 120mph. If if fell nose first and maintained this position its speed would be higher due to improved aerodynamics.

I am going for a spin later, so I will test my theory properly and I will let you know how I get on. I can forsee one problem however!! yep, how will the speedo work???

Any ideas guys?

Not to mentioned the ABS light is on - cos the rear wheels are jacked up and the front wheels are stationary!:tt2::tt2:

FAKE!LOL

175mph on a private test track ofcourse, it didnt feel flat out as the speedo was still climbing but i bottled it LOL, 1.05bar boost, chip, filter, exhaust, tubs, ect and manual too

I'm guessing there wasn't much left to go - depending where your rev limit is set. I'd say this was as close as anyone has got so far.

Is it right to think an auto would have the legs over a manual when it comes to absolute V max (power permitting)?

In terms of gearing and equal power at the rear wheels, yes.

TT Manual at 7200rpm = 190mph

TT Auto at 7200rpm = 206 mph

Gearing per 1000rpm in top gear:

TT Manual - 26.4 mph

TT Auto - 28.6 mph

NA Manual - 23.9 mph

NA Auto - 25.9 mph

Based on Stock wheel/tyre sizes.
