On my travels the other day I saw a mint Lancia Integrale Evo. Now you don't see many of those, but as I gawped at its flared arches and countless louvres, I couldn't help but notice how freakin beautiful it is. But, it isn't really a thing of beauty - in isolation the individual styling cues would be ridiculed mercilessly on a modern car (anyone else think the Focus RS looks cheap?).

 

So it got me to thinking - the automotive world must be littered with such oxymorons. I'm gonna start with a few pics of the Integrale, but if you can think of any other other cars which share such unconventional beauty, please post em up.

Speaking of Stratos, my old boss used to race a nice replica in the auto italia championship.

 

I have always been partial to the 037 - not necessarily ugly, but i wouldn't want to meet it down a dark ally.

lol i know what you mean matey, that is one sexy looking motor. the road one wasn't the best in the box, but i still wouldn't kick it out of the garage if it farted.

Always liked the Integrale, such a purposefull looking machine.

 

Shame it had such an awful Interior, terrible build quality and its performance and handling weren't all that great in reality.

 

- but then most of that can be said for the RS Cosworth and Classic Impreza's too.

They are very of their time, not a million miles away from the mark 2 Golf. They did one of these on Wheeler Dealers a few years back. Not my cup of team, bit too "lego block" for my tastes. Check out the Wheeler Dealers episode

2 of my favorites, in fact i still have my faithful old scirocco and use her regularly.

I think the Lancia Looks absolutely hideous!! Cracking performance though. Now the Stratos, that's a sexy car. Only ever seen one in the flesh. a Red one. Stunning.

 

Now for an ugly vehicle, ugliest in the world, gen 1 Fiat Multipla!! WHAT were they thinking with that bug eye design.

I've never drive one but I would love to! Loved them from back in the day (when I was far too young to be driving!). Like the Corrado too although its a bit softer looking

Yup - I always loved the old Scirocco as well. Ditto the Opel Manta; very dated now but I used to own a 1979 Manta as a teenager and I loved it at the time!!

 

The Quattro was just awesome and seeing Gene Hunt drive one in "Ashes to Ashes" brought it all back.....:yes:
