Slick Pete will be starting on my new car in about two or three weeks. He's going to strip out most of the mechanicals in the slicktop and get the bodywork right up to scratch along with a few other jobs :)

The engine and electronics from the red car will be put into the slicktop by Dan when Pete has done his stuff.

There are going to be a fair few new parts so there will be lots of good stuff up for grabs at very reasonable prices. Pete will be sorting out what's to be had from the slicktop and there will be some stuff from the red one and of course the rolling shell will be looking for a new owner. Not much in the way of details just yet but will be posting a thread in the for sale when we know precisely what's going.

What is certain is that while I won't be stripping the slicktop to the bare bones I won't be keeping aircon and various servos etc to keep the weight right down.

I guess my main performance aim is to exceed 200 mph. I managed 196 mph on my ZX10R after spending a bloody fortune so this is my last chance as getting too bloody old for it lol.

Why bother exceeding 200mph? Where are you going to really utilise that? It's far more enjoyable and usable to get the acceleration figures at their best. Far more usable.

I find top-speeds a bit pointless as you never use them.

From what I can make out from your various posts I imagine you find most exciting things pretty pointless. And I'm pretty certain that my acceleration figures already are and will be far more enjoyable than your own anyway.

You're strange. LOL

Nice project good luck and keep us updated and I would consentrate on how to get from 0 to 60 but your project:wink:

0 -60 times? Why are you a car maker?

200mph on an unlimited road... or 200mph on a top speed day?

Because most top speed day only give you about 1.5 miles, so your car need to be >200mph to make it on one of those days.

Defiantly doable, and would be great to see it done. :)

How much BHP are you after to do 200mph?

an excellent project to follow just dont forget to update regularly we wanna know everything. Ive been to Petes and seen his work so you made the first choice correct and I am quite sure the rest will be good luck

Well I am currently running 504 rwhp and have got about 100 shot of NOS on top so definitely already have the power. The red car is too heavy really and anything over 175 started to feel pretty hairy.

I've been enjoying modified cars and motorbikes for over 20 years so have already done most things speedwise. 200 mph is one of the few personal goals on the road that I haven't managed yet so it's top of the list for next year. I'd much rather do it over 1.5 miles but if it takes a bit longer I won't feel too bad about it lol.

Yes thanks Pete is a top guy and genuine too so I am pleased that he agreed to do this for me. With Dan sorting my engine I thinks it going to be a truly great car :)

Yes I get to do all the fun bits(not):mad2:

Stripping out eng/box aircon etc.

Then it just gets better..... Cleaning the engine bay back to shiny paint, undersealing the whole floorpan and cavity injecting all the box sections. Swapping subframes and suspension bits.

The car Bob is using is a fresh import from Japan. Just off the boat and never used in the UK. It is ultra clean and rust free underneath and thats the way I want it to stay.

I have arranged for my local garage/MOT test station to help with heavy work like subframe swaps on their 2 post lift.:sweatdrop:

My target date to start is Mon 2nd Aug.

for those who are interested I can post a few pics of the car before I start, and maybe a couple as work progresses.

i think 200mph is a good goal, we all keep saying we would like to see the 300zx gain more respect with tuners, supra's, skylines and even 4 pot cossie's reach 200mph all the time so why not the zed

it would be a first that i know of without being a one trick pony like the salt flats 300zx

i would be interested to see the progress pics

i should think going for 200 mph is a master feat without some serious areodynamic body work... at them sort of speeds high horsepower hits a wall if the object can not slip through the air:online2long:

I'm with Allan there.....

.....0-60; 0-100 and the 1/4 mile have been done to death by the world and its dog nowadays. But 200mph is still, for most, an unattainable goal. Remember when 5th Gear tried it with their project Esprit V8 and failed....?

Go for it!!

Richard:chef:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i think 200mph is a good goal

and thats exactly the point..

Its a goal, a hope, a dream , an aspiration.

these things dont have to sensible or justifiable they exist in peoples heads and in the case of guys like Bobgenie and me its what gets us looking forward. Its what makes me get out of bed on a day off work and get on with the project. Whatever it is.

Plenty of dull non aspirational plods in the world. We have a few on here.

Most pharmacies I work in are full of them:yawn:

sounds like an amazing project, funny i was just thinking to my self if a Z could get above the 200 mark,

i did actually start looking into it and i found although the weight and power were a major factor the body, and gearbox were just as important, but saying that the standard Z had a coefficient of i think 0.30? (correct me if im wrong.) most skylines its about 0.40 and there are a fair few 200+mph skyline out there,

obviously i don't know anything about your Z but im not sure a standard Z box could do 200, i started to look into gearbox conversions,

and then i found it was all out of my budget...:crying:

looking forward to hearing more of this project... good luck:thumbup1:

Ah the secret project isn't quite so secret :D Pete told me about this a few weeks back just before my hols. Looking forward to seeing the results soon buddy :hyper:

We think the box will be fine however the final drive ratio would most likely prevent it happening as may the aerodynamics. Once I have the car where I want it we will probably have to fit an auto final drive ratio and get it as low as possible to make it happen. W'll give it a go and if it's within reach and budget then it will definitely happen. Have spoken to Dan today and have agreed to try and do it within 1.5 miles. One of his clients has achieved 0 - 200 in under one mile he told me today. I know that a couple of years ago he installed a AEM EMS into a car which achieved 7 second 1/4 making it the quickest jap car in europe :) It's going to be fun whatever we manage I think :sorcerer: Probably make's it difficult that I want to maintain the original lines of the car as much as possible.

Hey Nick, yes gonna be quite exciting I think. Might even keep up with your V8 if you ever finish it :devil2: I am taking out the red car for probably the last time this weekend but I've had a lot of fun in it and hoping the slicktop will be even better :)
