After looking at getting a HICAS PS fluid bypass pipe from Z1 and being told it would be $40 for posting (not to mention $35 for the pipe, admin fees and tax when it arrives!) I've decided to make my own.

It will be a threaded steel tube that the pipes from the solenoid can be joined together with. This will allow me too remove the solenoid and all the piping that goes to the back of the car.

The tooling for this will cost me about a £100 plus materials. Due to this I was wondering if anybody else would be interested in having one for say around £12 to £15 ish. I won't be trading in these but am prepared to make a few extra for club members to try and cover my costs.

Stick your name down if your interested, but I'm not ready to take orders yet. I won't be holding you too it if you change your mind and I won't be talking any money in advance.

Mods; Hopefully I haven't broken any club rules by putting this thread up. If I have then feel free to delete thread.

Cheers all

Dave

Guys, I'm new to this 4 wheel steer and Hicas stuff! Can someone explain it in simple terms :blushing: lol. Will I still need to buy a Hicas lock out bar, which I was going to order very soon?

Dave - Put me down for one, haven't got a clue what your doing, sort of got an idea, but I'll have one anyway :)

Added you both, cheers

Matt; Yes you will still need a lockout bar. The bit I'm making is to join the fluid pipes at the front of the car. Most (not all) lockout bars provide a pipe to join the fluid lines at the rear of the car.

Rob; Your right mate, you won't need an NA pot, you also don't need to adapt your TT pot. The joiner I'm going to be making will be a 5min job to fit.

Update:

I've made the first bypass pipe. It's made out of high grade hex steel bar (used hex to allow a spanner/wrench to grip it for tightening) and only takes a minute or two to fit. It's also impossible to fit the wrong way round:thumbup1:.

Here's some pics of it fitted; The pipes lying behind it are the ones that go to the rack at the rear, these can now be removed all the way back to the HICAS.

To stop the new fitments from moving while driving, the pipe can be cable tied to the PS pump.

I'm now ready to start taking orders. Price will be £15 plus £2 p&p (£17 delivered). This will also include 4 new crush washers. PM me if you would like one. Please remember that they will be made to order, so will take a few days to arrive with you.

As the fluid bypass is made from steel, you will need to paint or protect it from rust.

Sorry mate, I completely missed your post :blushing:

If you'd still like one then please email me at a_db_models@btinternet.com.

cheers

Dave

I did a hicas removal and used a lockout bar on the back, I kept the original Pump and Pot as well. You can get around joining the fluid pipes by simply running new pipes from the pot directly to the original power steering stuff (if you want to??). You might only need one from memory if you keep the pot in the same place but I changed all three as I relocated the pot.

Isn't this what causes the the ps pump to fail due to pressure build up?
