Made the trek up to john dixon's today to have the q45 maf fitted and a set up done. So a few hours on the dyno and john's magic touch later.... Found the position of the external wastegate is wrong and needs to be changed so the ebc can't be plumbed in as it pobably won't contol the boost properly. Also there's not enough fuel top end and until the boost is controlled it can't be set just yet. But once that is done john should get about 50 more horses loose.

So who wants to guess at todays best figure?

When the car came in the first run was 360bhp at the wheels, after several runs John got the power up rather well. Below is a graph of one of the average power firgure runs although the best one was .....

450.7 bhp at the wheels!!!! That makes it a 500bhp at the fly engine!!! With some slight tweaks we should get 500 at the wheels next time!!!!

Lag isn't as bad as you would think, turbo comes in around 3500rpm and holds to 6300 nicely, you'll see it better on the graph tomorrow

numbers are good but that turbo takes all day to spool with peak torque arriving at 6k+, what turbo is it it and what's it like on the road?

Not having a dig at the work, had a quick look around at Japfest and looks like you've done a good job getting it all up and going, but other than being different, I don't see the advantage.

It's quite as bad as you think, boost starts around 3300 but keeps building quickly after that and if I remember rightly after 5k your looking at 400bhp. TBH it does mean I can cruise around without using the turbo if I want and then drop a gear and nail it when I want the power, the delivery is nice. Maybe ounce the wastegate is sorted and the ebc fitted it will change a little.

I did it to be different and a enjoyed the challenge of getting it to work and the other advantage, the turbo was a T78 from Ebay in the US which was very cheap and the other, no engine out for a turbo change or upgrade!!:tt2:

nice work mate, it isnt an easy job to take on such a task, power looks good and will prob piss on a lot of other twin tubby zeds

would a different turbo let it boost earlier if needed

and the location of the tub must only be a great thing lol

Nice one Anthony, got to be pleased with that.

Its good to see two similar runs (yours and Jimmers) being done at the same dyno on same day, very good for comparing.

bloody hell this was a debate iff it would even work when you started out and to get those results lag or no lag is fantastic mate...well done for having the balls to even think about it and look forward to the next phase:yes:

Must say I was surprised by this, the big single is actually not too bad lag-wise and there is certainly more power to come when the boost control and fuel starvation issues are fixed. Kinda have a suspicion we will be able to extend the power curve up at high revs a fair bit but cams will be limiting. Be intersting to see what a big garret GT ball bearing unit would be like.

Fair play to Anthony for having a go :hurray:
