You may need it to be a Multi-Point injection system. The ariel hole would be a good place for the filler point, and I'd suggest using the spare wheel recess for the LPG tank.

You shouldn't notice any significant lose of power in using LPG either, but you would notice a huge drop in your monthly fuel bill ;)

I don't know of any Zeds with this done, but I am aware of a lot of 2.7 & 2.5 V6 Rover 800's having it very succesfully done, and don't know of a single owner who wishes they hadn't either. I wouldn't mind having it done on my own Rover 820, but as it's a turbo it creates further problems.

Best of luck with it, keep us informed.

There are kits to enable multipoint injection on 4/6/8 cylinder systems and even turbos are do able. Apart from accepting a drop in performance and even if you are capable to fit a kit and map and adjust the gas map to the petrol map you have to always consider payback.

Even fitting it yourself you would need to be driving over 20,000 a year to have the system pay for itself in a decent time, say less than 2 years, and how many zeds get that kind of use these days? The other big danger is the government of the day stuffing taxes on LPG to render the saving worthless before the system even paid for itself

You also have an extra tank to lug about, the insurance question or increased premiums and you can forget using the chunnel and some multi storey car parks. It also needs to get a certificate of safety every year for £120 or so.

wise words Will,

a wider point to consider (no offense Lee as i know peoples situations change and costs have to be looked at etc) is that anyone who is concerned about mpg to the extent they want to go LPG should be owning a zed in the first place...10mpg t-tops off ragging about having fun is whats its all about or am i wrong? i can see the point in LPG'ing a 20yo 6 litre rolls royce but they aint GT's like a zed....if you have to work further away /commute everyday get a small engined daily driver or.....err.... buy an NA :D

My personnal opinion LPG is definitely worth while if you got a new vehicle, where you and whoever may buy the car from you in the future can get the milage out of the car, before it comes redundant.

but on an older car, you would need to do a lot of miles to justify a return, let alone a saving. then you have to question once you have got your money back, how many miles is left in the car before it is no longer of use.

Secondly regards performance. I had LPG ssytem on my SRT-10 and when you are running around it's great but when you put your foot down, the fuel cannot get drawn in quick enough, so your stuttering. Natuaral reaction is to then turn of the LPG, when you wanna burn up, which means you are running on petrol, which means the LPG is not cost wise, benefitting you.

One final point. There will always be situations when you run out of LPG, which is fine if you've got petrol in the tank, but then after a while you get a little lazy getting to the LPG garage (cos they are not always convenient) and again you run on petrol which means again you have not benefitted from the conversion.

Strongly recommend LPG if you are a high mileage driver and running round doing 20-30K miles and up, but for a Zed. I think you'll regret it in the long run.

IMHO

Prins or BRC are one of the better makes, currently fitting a BRC system to mine, had a similar system on the last car, well worth it IMO

LPG/SRT10 ??

LPG/Zed ??

Purchase another vehicle to satisfy your daily needs,

and keep the performance for the special days !

Or have one vehicle you really like and enjoy it ?

This is coming from a driver who drives a V8 Hemi as his every day driver.

One mot, one road tax, one insurance and one up-keep.

Alan.....

You can't get a sports car and want to convert it to run LPG; it's a bit like pouring chocolate all over lettuce. Not as bad as the weirdo who wanted to convert his Z to a diesel though! LOL ;)

I couldn't live with this on the side of my Z...

I have seen plenty of write ups for LPG as a high performance fuel (110 ron over 98 for super unleaded)

It also seems to work really on v6 twin turbos (or other engines that don't rev quite so freely)...

I would not bother it will run a little hotter, plus there is more to go wrong and to be worthwhile you need to invest in a good lpg system so looking at £2k from a decent installer. It seems a bit of a false economy now too lpg is around 63p litre now, just over 1 year ago i was paying 45p you have to do some serious miles to earn that back counting z maintenance too. It might be best to buy a cheap economical run around.

Si is right too a filler would look crap on the side of a z. I hate the look on most cars hence the reason I got my mk1 GS300 filler fitted under the rear bumper. you could opt for a filler that just goes in the boot but thats a bit naughty. Quite a few range rover and X5's have that though so you can not tell that they have LPG.

Hi i had a conversion done on my skyline many many years ago, at time was 2 years old the car not me, I saved heaps, but suffered with severe power loss and had to floor it all the time to make up for the lag, also on my NA skyline was even worse due to the weight of the vehicle and being an auto, id seriously think about not doing it, and have a run around car like i does lol

Good luck

i had a 740i bmw was perfect had done many europe trips not let me down once, think it all depends on the installer and lpg system but im not an expert.
