My father taught at Millfield. Was head of Latin, but also taught French, Portuguese and Classics. I believe she actually got expelled! I know that Pierce Brosnan's son got booted out. He taught all sorts of people from Prince of Jordan's son through to President Jiang Zemin of China's grand son.

 

The Beckham's were going to send their children there I believe.

My father is a retired teacher as well - although nowhere so salubrious. It must have been quite exclusive though......

 

......as many kids were sent there by a judge!!

Was it a school for disadvantaged children? Completely the opposite ends of the spectrum, but just as important.

 

My father retired about 5 years ago. He's a historian and translator now. Also does some charity work for the blind.

No, he never taught English! :p

 

Actually, tell a lie, when he finished university, he went off to Portugal to live and taught English as a foreign language. He was actually there during the Portuguese revolution in '74. Was set to be a very wealthy man. He and a friend of his from Coimbra university had written a text book for the Portuguese education system that was due to be rolled out across the entire country.

 

2 months before it was due to go to print, the military led coup over threw (peacefully) the regime that was then in power. The books instantly became out of date and never went into circulation.

He retired about 19 years ago now after suffering heart problems in his mid-50s. That and his first day back to work after a heart op some vicious little scrote decided to attack him with an iron bar!!

 

I'm glad he's out of that now as he's still alive.....:ohmy:
