i have put some 18" alloys on my z which i am very happy with the look but i am wondering if the rear tyre footprint is to wide for a swb!

they are 265 wide and in the wet all i can say is they are dangerous! the dry the car sticks like shit to a blanket.

i know the tyres arnt a good make but i was trying to do a bit of research before i spunk out on some new rubber.

i was planning on going for falken fk452's as i have had them before on my old 17" alloys but any reviews on other tyres greatly appreciated.

calling all swb owners what tyres do you use and do you have any problems in the wet with 265 or over width tyres.

thank you

gaz

I have 275 rear tyres and245 front tyres. Front tyres are Dunlop sport3000 y rated. They are really good! The rear tyres are Yokohama and in the dry they stick to the Tarmac like superglue. Also I don't seem to have trouble in the wet but I drive more carefully tho!

I had 265x30x19's on the back of my SWB - and always felt that it handled pretty well - had Falken FK 452's on.............

ill be running 255/40/17 on the back of my swb. that will be on a 10" rim

sure it will be your tyres/alignment mate

What tyres are they? cheap wide tyres are absolutely terrible in the wet, really really bad.

 that is FOR SURE your problem. So don't think they are too wide for your shortie, its all down to the tyres.

right ordered my new rear tyres yesterday falken fk452's :) . went to have them fitted today only to find that the were going to fit the ZIEX ZE-912:no::no:, as i didnt know anything about them and i know the 452 i wasnt too impressed with them not telling me. (luckey i trust nobody anymore LOL)

according to them the 452 is discontinued and you cant buy them from anywhere apart from the internet!!

i smell bullshit........... read up on the 912's and there developed for the small to mid sized saloon cars for occasional spirited driving!1 dont sound like a z at all does it!!!

i said i didnt want them and now ordered them from a different tyre shop so fingers crossed i may have them on by tuesday!

Yup - I agree there's your problem!

I have 265/35/18 rears and 225/40/18 fronts - the latest Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrics - on my Z and they are truly excellent in all conditions (so far - not tried the Z in the snow.....:whistling:)

I can highly recomend them; they're not cheap though:1eye:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I rate the f1's too but at a 4000 mile lifespan im put off:tt2:. my bro had them and the car was like it was on rails.

i suppose grip over durability is the way to go but i think the 452's are the best of both :) cheers richard

Good point Gaz - I had GSD3 Goodyears once; and whilst the grip was briliant, they only lasted 5 minutes!!! Not sure how the new Asymetrics will last though - but I'll let you know in 4000 miles:oops:

The FAlkens do get good reviews and they're not too pricey either so I reckon a good call mate!

hahahahaha linglongs lol........... funny enough Murt swears by them lol probbaly coz they are cheap as hell..... utter shite imo. You would actually have more grip with a 115width falken.

hahaha they wernt my choice they were on the wheels when i picked them up for a bargain

i feel like a drift king at the moment because at any oppetunity the arse end is out !!!

I have 275 rears on my shorty... on 9.5" wheels they are Falken 452's. I was a bit scepitcal to be honest but im realising that in all conditions (except snow!!) they are providing very impressive grip and good handling. Obviously in the wet its a little more tail happy but they are powerful cars! My M3 used to spin up 245 michi pilots in the wet!

yeah forget about traction in the wet. I can spin up in 4ht easy in the wet and even in 5th gear on the motorway. It does feel unsafe and undrivable in the rain.

Hahaha! Long Longs? Dude, you really didn't need to start this thread! Murt was running Linglongs for a while. Absolutely terrible tyre. Compound so hard, they never wore out....but they never gripped either! Litter! Find your nearest speed camera, throw one over and set light to it!

s'funny, im running F1s on mine and theyre sound. However on the beemer we had some linglongs and back end was everywhere but where you wanted it to be in the wet, forked out for some good dunlops and transformed car - coudlnt believe how much a bad tyre could affect car.
