Hi Chaps, I have just received a pair of R33 Brembo calipers.

I have noticed that one of the calipers has had a broken hub mount at some time and it has been welded back on.

Obviously I have emailed the seller for an explanation, but my question to you guys is do you think it will be safe to use??

Won't hold anyone to their word, just after some opinions on this.

Has anyone else had this happen before?

Cheers....

Any more thoughts on this Chaps? Really cheesed about this!

It was an Ebay purchase, I asked the question: are they in good working order? - to which the reply was yes.

Surely though I can claim there not fit for purpose now....I've had no response yet, but its early days.

As anyone successfully received a paypal refund after using paypal resolution console?

Cheers again....

It all depends on how good the weld is.

*Is it alloy or cast iron?

*has it been machined or ground back?

*does the weld look like chewing gum or like it was welded with some level of skill?

*was it welded recently?

*did you get them for a song, if so it might be worth keeping them anyway and having a pro check out the weld or bring it up to a satisfactory standard

Have someone who knows what they are talking about to look at it for an opinion.

If you are not sure/ unhappy, then reject it on the basis of safety/ not as described.

If you file a complaint with paypal and the seller has money in his paypal account, they will freeze the amount in dispute until it is resolved

Due to the massive stress the brake calipers are under - personally i wouldn't have them on my car - just not worth the risk.

Your right, I'm gunning for a refund. This is mis-selling as the product is not fit for purpose.

Thanks....

You will get your money back with no problems as an item not as described but it takes about 24 days

His money will have been froze even if he has removed it he will now be in the red

Then Make sure you send them back to him (once agreed) via a couier (parcel force is best for paypal) then they can track it ect. It MUST be sent via recorded delivery

hth

they are cast for a reason a break means a weak point has gone or they have been fiited wrong, a weld although is as good as any other jointing compound is just that "a joint" it is a weak point now and any stress on the brakes will show within the weld and fail under any unnecasary load

I think it's important to know the reason why it was welded. A good weld can be stronger than the original material. My rear calipers are welded, as they are modified to fit the car.

Andy I agree with your statement, but you know why and how yours were welded, Craig has no idea why it was welded and how well it's been done.

^^^understand AndyP, but my guess is this persons had a crash?? the force of which has bust a caliper mount. Thats why there is one good caliper and one repaired caliper.

All speculation though, cos I still have not heared from the seller. I have begun a Paypal complaint type thing. We'll see how it goes....

Just concerned about the 'not as described part' as the listing was very short just saying 'Skyline R33 GTR brembo front brakes a direct fit to a nissan 300zx Z32' that was it! Of course I asked the question are they in good useable condition to which the reply was yes. They are (or 1 of them) is not!

Yes - Many times - as long as the goods are not as advertised or proven defective or mis-described - the paypal buyer protection system works ok - (PayPal Buyer Protection helps you if you don't receive your item or the item is significantly different from its description in the seller's listing) - up to a 1000 euros. :cool3: - it's just the hassle factor matey. :gun_bandana:

Just an update on this, my seller has just sent his 1st reply to my request for a refund.....

"Sorry for the delay. These are as I bought them for a project but do to health reasons I can no longer proceed. I was not aware that one had been welded, having spoke to the person who I got them off it was professional welded by an engineering company and has been on his car without any problems. I have also been in the car with them on, so they should be no issues."

Any further thoughts Chaps?

He's been in his mates car and they're fine!!! That sounds like a great endorsement

I'd be sending them back! If you're really after them i'd be asking what engineering co. did the work and is there a receipt of the work carried out for confirmation purposes.

Just my opinion but I'd send them back.

Personally i wouldn't, some time down the line if this breaks, who yer gonna have left to deal with? and knowing it had been welded too.

They wern't described as having been repaired on ebay and maybe it is the reason why he didn't post up picks when he was selling them here perhaps...

Oh and yes, "funland" is used for describing Blackpool.

Smithy, I'd already thought this!

Wondered if this was related to the Forum sale that fell thru on grounds of mis-discription. Obviously didn't realise in time!

Hopefully Paypal can force the issue.

Turbocraigy I can't pm you but if you look in my clocks for £659 thread, i replied to you stating that " my man" was from Blackpool and has left an address on the back of my parcels. If I were you I'd subscribe to this forum as the help and support i've received has been tremendous. Plus i'll be able to pm you his address!!

Get your money back, really you dont want to be breaking on broken and repaired brakes. If you kill a kid because of it how would you feel??????? just get shot of them right back to him.

thats the same joker and calipers that he tried to sell to vig...

Obviously a rogue and don't give a damn. I bet we know this character under a previous user name.
