Does the zeds steering feel to light with no feeling? Easy cure explained here :D

I always thought the zeds steering was way to light for a sport gt car, so i had a go and disconnected the hicas ecu and its now alot heavier which i like, I can feel alot more of the road and what the cars doing. :D I was always told the steering might become even lighter with it disconnected...nope.

Im thinking about re connecting the ecu BUT looping a switch to the power wire so i can have it both ways light or heavy, light for parking and city driving and heavy for cornering.

Whos with me? :D

Those of you with hicas bypassed and are fed up with the hicas light on constantly... well its now off too :D added bonus for me.

A speedo converter will effect the signal to both PAS and HICAS so swapping for UK clocks rather than Jap speedo+converter would show a noticeable improvement. I'm not a fan of HICAS as I found it disconcerting on long sweeping bends at speed so got rid anyway.

Just what I was about to say - light steering is a classic symptom of fitting a KPH>MPH convertor

agreed, and with the speed sensor working properly back from the dash the steering is light at parking speeds then heavier on the roads automatically.

Wooo was out having a drive, yeah i did have the speed convertor thing on, i did realise that i would have made the steering lighter but hey im happy its heavier now and i have no hicas light on. at about 100mph feels alot better, can feel everything now... Havent driven my car for a few weeks and today i forgot how well it handled, changes direction like superman. Im still thinking bout a switch to change for normal driving as it can be a bit much after gym which i just experienced.

So who the hell was it who told me it might make the steering to light if disconnected? who knows.

:D and i still got the r888 on the front and falken on the rear quite fun (lots of oversteer) :D think the r888 make the steering even heavier as they are 245 wide and they come up fatter than normal tyres not to forget how sticky they are.

If you want a mans Z then try driving it with NO power steering. After making a mess of my pump the other day I went for a drive without a belt on LOL

has anyone removed the power steering completly?

i mean the pump, imagine is quite heavy. then blocked off the pipe on the steering rack?

I think it would be ok on a lighter car but on a front end heavy 300 i think it might be a bit too heavy, especially with wide wheels and tyres... on a sport hatch maybe but not a zed, ive turned my wheel full lock when the engines off and its way too heavy.

Zed power steering is speed sensitive so should be light at low speed and weight up as you go faster. Like others have said the kph/mph converter upsets the relationship making ot too light when you would want it heavier.

Yeah dont try it! believe me its a bugger to turn, and not very safe at all.

I did think about knocking up a new controller for mine if I needed to with the MR2 pump and stuff using something like an arduino processor board to give a PWM signal out to the solenoid.

As it was, I just stuck an NA controller on (and hacked the wiring) and it feels pretty good.

May still do the board at some point and see what difference it makes to adjust it.

yea my PAS pump has gone caputt at the mo (or have a leak or something)

no PAS is deffo not very nice when trying park etc, dont notice it when driving.

especially with 9J wheels lol
