So how many of us actually use the zed as a daily drive? Its my only car so I do the daily commute and usual running, probably around 100 miles a week. How ever this will change as my place of work is moving so weekly total will be nearer 250. I drive alternate weeks so it probably gonna cost me an extra £1k a year in fuel alone, not to mention wear and tear on the old girl.

I'm thinking of getting a cheap runabout for commuting, but I don't have a drive and parking on my street is limited.

If got a cheapy runabout for about £1k I'd save in the long run after a few years or so, I'm not planning on leaving the company for at least 3 years.

I don't really mind paying the extra fuel but I'd hate to ruin the car doing that many miles down crappy A roads.

i used to use the Z when i first brought her but now i got myself a fiesta 1.4 diesel because i can park it anywhere and i dont care lol. Its a bit on the slow side but just got 350miles to £28 of diesel (about 60+ mpg), the Z over the last 2 years has covered 3000miles.

Yep at the min my Z is the daily car and only car, i do around the same poss a tad more than 100mls on a weekly basis , but have always said would get a little car again to save the Z for them sunny days :)

Was thinking of poss a pulsar or half decent colt

My only car and if i have courses in aberdeen etc i will drive which is a round trip of around 400miles and the zed copes no bother atall.

Then i use it to drive about the town etc also.

been my Daily Driver for over 2years now, clocked up nearly 18k miles in 28months of ownership! loved every minute of it!

I sat down and thought about a run around but The extra 1k you spend buying it, 400 on insuring it and then Running it, Tax, MOT'ing it from what it saves me than on Zed Fuel it will take years to Balence itself out than if i just did the Zed as my daily driver.

Thus here i am with a TT manual as my daily Drive. Its a wonderful feeling! :D :D :D

Its only failed me Twice, 1 was the CAS plug fell out and took me a few hours and some Help to find it and get the car alive again.

and the 2nd was my Student Gumball rally to Croatia where the fuel pump wiring had melted as it got so hot in a 2hr traffic jam in 40degree heat!

So if treated correctly Zeds are actually not as Unreliable as alot of people make them out to be

Also in daily use, up until this week I was doing about 200 miles per week. Got a Mondeo to fall back on, but the missus uses that

I was using the zed as a daily driver while i was at the cottage as i was only 6 miles from work but bought the metro to do a bit more mileage in and i was saving about 50 quid a week!

The car paid for itself in under 2 months :)

Waiting till next year then i'm putting the zed on a classic policy when i hit 30 and then use the 10+ years no claims on something a bit more exciting to commute to work in probably a volvo V70 estate D5

I work my fuel out at 30p a mile 70 quid to fill and get around 230 miles. So the extra 150 miles i'll be doing works out at £45 a month times the 25 weeks i drive due to car share is just over £1k I know its not a lot extra, and the car is generally reliable, but we also might be taking a paycut due to a pay restructure. :(

I use my jdm tt auto as a daily driver- mileage varies, but it gets well used. Will not use over winter ( tax runs out end October). What best to do to prepare for lay-up till march/april to prevent deterioration through lack of use?

It all adds up though buddy, amazing how much more you can do if you just use the zed as a weekend/evening car

i use mine every day...

for work i do 180 miles a week plus my normal running around here and there..

we have the golf 1.8T that is our "family car" that my missus loves and uses everyday...

i used to do the whole 2 car thing but found cos we had the family car i never used my toy and just sat there... its only car so i use it every day as it should be

I use to until i got my full time job, now i got the van, but if im poping out or going out to a friends i take the 300

Use mine every weekend and every other week for 2 and a half years now ....

never let me down:bow::nelson:

Weekend toy. Regular summer use ONLY when the weather's good. :) doesn't get used in the winter.....so would that be 'hardly use'?

As for the choice, daily driver under 3k per year....Jesus, bet your engines are rammed full of mayo!

the Z is a costly machine isnt it lol

know its fun, but man how fast can it drink petrol!

been using my 1.0 3 cyl corsa, "gets you from A to B"

I drive most days.

If you add depreciation, of which a stockish zed wont suffer from too much, tax insurance etc, then factor in a tt manual zed can and WILL do over 25mpg (driven off boost, up to 80ish, occasional trash.

If you want to be silly for a while you can, no long boring drives in a gutless car, struggling out of junctions, stock tyres are cheap.....then theres always evilbay bits...why bother with a 2nd car??

Nope, i've tried to be sensible+ just found it depressing, the zed fuel is maybe £10-£15 more than something boring.

I could go on.....

Mine was my daily drive for about 5 years. Did average about 6k in it per year but it had an "incident" in it oct 2007 and the bro' in law just happened to be selling his Almera GTi for £750 at the time so I snapped it up. Then I moved out of the family home and not really driven it since.

Ivan

Used on Sundays and the occasional sunny day/evening. I did use it daily when i first got it but i bought a 1.4 Rover 25 to travel down south to see the ex and started using that instead, now the zed is only a toy and did 3k last year.

I only do small journeys during the week anyway and tbh i am not keen on doing short distances in it as it does'nt really do any car any good - cars like to be used!

Cheers,

Isaac

My last 2 were daily drivers. Thats when I was doing 30 miles to work and back every day

This one will be all set for the road next week, and will be strictly a weekend toy or when I want to show off to people lol.

I did have an old bmw that was a bit of a fuel guzzler as well when I got my z31 so I ditched the bmw in favour of a (slightly) more economical Fiesta XR2i - I TRY to use the fiesta as my daily driver and just use the zed for fun...but in reality its prob 50/50, I always keep both sets of keys in my pocket to allow a last minute decision as I leave for work which one I'll take...but if you've seen my 'gutted' post then you'll know the fiesta will be getting a hammering for the next couple of weeks

My car is used daily and I love it, its not a bad every day car really, have hell of a lot of looks, dont really do a lot of milage so wouldnt see the point in having a second car as it would work out more expensive.

Mines a daily driver covering a minimum of 250miles per week, every week. Since April when I got her Ive covered about 7000 miles.

Fuel is a bit of a killer and as it keeps rising Im becoming more tempted with buying a diesel slag, but on the other hand, I couldn't justify the insurance on the 300 just for weekends. I pay best part of £1400 a year insurance so I want to make the most of it!
