I've at last finished de-oranging the car:

I'm thinking though that it could do with either smoked indicators to match the blanks next to them, or clear blanks, I'm not sure which. Anyone any thoughts, or pictures of such arrangments? Are smoked UK indicators available?

Phill

P.S. please ignore the off centre number plate!

Smoke them yourself, but just do the backings, not the fronts.

Tinting spray. Just take the main lens off, then lightly coat the backings of the reflectors. I hate tinting spray, but it's good for doing insides of lights, so you're still left with a factory look on the outside.

Not seen anyone do it to a UK lense before, just the backs of JDMs, but it should work.

How do you get the main lense off? It seems glued pretty strong when I had them off yesterday, I had to break the orange filter up and pull it throught the back.

Not sure how they are set up on UK ones. What happens if you take the scews out? Does the lense come away?

no, the whole unit comes out, the clear lense on the front seems to be glued onto the plastic back part/reflector.

Sure is mate......

No - see above! and the plastic edges are very fragile so you cannot prise them off otherwise you'll just snap the outer edges off:nono:

I know this after my botched first attempt to clear mine. I then "experimented" with the broken lense and discovered that you can't remove the front without breaking it......;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I take you can't buy a smoked UK indicator of the shelf then? I had a quick look but couldn't find anything.

imo tinting them all would look too dark... going jdm would be a better idea if you fancy a change but i quite like the uk front light setup

I agree with that - it looks good now Phil; I have done the same thing as you and I quite like the "revised" UK spec set-up as it is......

Richard, out of interest how did you get the filters out? They seem to be made out of stupidly tough plastic, I managed to break a pair of long nosed pliers and a pair of cutters, and ended up using a soldering iron to melt them into bits!

deffo as is imo

:)

Hi Phil,

Pretty much as you did mate!

My first attempt I decided to try the lazy option but I didn't realize just how tough the orange bit was. I tried to break it using a hammer and screwdriver; but ended up smashing the orange bit (unbroken) through the front of the lense!!:headvswal

One new lens later (thanks JeffTT:)) and I used a red hot screwdriver to effectively cut through the orange bit; breaking it into small pieces and pulling it out with long nosed pliers.

That an a little patience....:x:

Glad to hear you had trouble as well (in the nicest possible way:)).

Thanks guys, think I'll leave them as they are then, certainly the simplest option!

I know what you mean buddy - I don't know if "clearing" the JDM lenses is any easier. But it can't be any more tricky, surely....:o

I reckon I'll leave mine as they are - I reckon I prefer the UK spec look with the cleared lenses...

tinting spray is about a tenner,

ive done car before, sprayed on outside, looks fine :)

i think i prefer clear lenses tho these days?

PS i think a small number plate on the front always makes the car look slightly cooler. :)
