Hi folks, i just failed an MOT & need to get a new exhaust (cat back). I'll be honest I'm not suprised, I knew it was on it's way out but wanted advice on what you think is best or what's commonly used & approved.

I'm not exactly loaded but I guess it costs what it costs & I know they're not cheap. I've got no mods to my car other than an apexi intake & to be honest I don't see much happening in the near future but the next step would likely be a chip & remap.

It's a 91 Z32 Jap TT LWB

Basically what I want to know is which exhaust should I got for, the few I've spotted for not much cash are

1. Japspeed http://www.templetuning.co.uk/japspeed-300zx-turbo--non-turbo-cat-back-exhaust-system-866-p.asp

Spotted on ebay for less http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-300ZX-TURBO-Z32-CAT-BACK-EXHAUST-SYSTEM-CATBACK_W0QQitemZ270419233525QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090702?IMSfp=TL0907021710001r21726

2. Mongoose from Z Centre http://www.zcentre.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=21_23&products_id=78

3. HKS Silent Hi Power http://www.templetuning.co.uk/hks-silent-hi-power-exhaust-system-nissan-z32-300zx-1462-p.asp (every time I've seen this there's only a pic of one side so I'm hoping it's still both sides).

Admittedly I haven't searched around for the cheapest, just trying to work out what I need first.

Any help is much appreciated & I'm hoping to order in the next couple of days.

Chris

You can always go to an Exhuast place e.g. Powerflow and get a custom one done think they charge around 4-500quid all in and you can select different looks, and Level of noise so it can be reasonably quiet but with a nice grumble or like a Saxo :)

Sorry, if anyone has a Powerflow, but IMO, they are junk! Powerflow use inferior materials and build quality is only as good as the individual making it. Better off getting a quality off the shelf system. Labree, HKS, Mongoose etc all make decent systems. Even the Japspeed system above is about a million times better than the turd they churn out at the Powerflow distributors. Looks pretty good quality that Japspeed actually.

veilside evolution is a great system but i doubt youd find one for sale. you just missed a swb one.

Out of all of them, not being bias, but it's one of best built systems I've ever seen for the Z32, just a shame it's not available anymore.

agreed. when i was first looking for a zed i wanted a quad exit but as soon as i saw this system on the car i forgot all about quad exit. one of the things that made me buy the car even though i had no idea of the systems value etc... a quality look and a quality burble

Cheers guys, I'm currently on you tube trying to hear what they sound like lol.

Does anybody know if it's the pipe size that causes the deeper sound or is it all down to the mufflers & back boxes. Was wondering if the 2' or 2.5' were different in this way.

Agreed, I'm noot looking to go excessively loud, I was more concerned with the tone, would prefer a deep rumble to a high gutless screaming

Plazma how much are you looking for the exhaust, does it come with gaskets, bolts etc & where are you based?

Fujitsubo Giken do some fantastic exhausts and are arguably one of the best exhaust manufacturers around, albeit extremely expensive / rare too. With a nice quiet / low grumble to them. Just what you want. :D

Why do these things always come up when your skint:rolleyes:

i'll have some cash at the end of september if you've still got it (unlikely i know)

got some money now:dance: just put a bid in  hopefully will come and get it saturday:D

Badder, I'm looking for around the £200 mark (only months old with receipt). I have the gaskets & bolts for the back boxes to centre section, your existing bolts may be ok for the cat section.

I'm based in Hemel Hempstead.

Hi all,

Sorry for the thread hijack; but how loud is that Japspeed exhaust?

It looks quite a decent quality and very reasonably priced at under £300 new. I had a Blue Flame (Mongoose copy) on my old Z and that sounded good and deep, but not at all intrusive at motorway speeds.

I'm thinking of the Japspeed one for my new Z but I don't want anything too loud - a nice V6 burble will be OK but I don't want a constant drone.....

Cheers guys,

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

go for the japspeed i`ve got one on my car and yes its loud but it does make you smile when your driving hard

forgot to mention i went for the full system with divorced elbows paid less than £500 delivered to the door from 2fast2cool on ebay.very resonable for that price

I found the Japspeed to be too much noise when I first bought it, especially on the journey home.

Trouble is, the sound around town was quite impressive and really did add to the performance goals

I've now got a mongoose system on - I'm probably going to enjoy it more on long trips but do miss the roar the Japspeed gave off!

It's all down to personal preference.

WTG Jackson! I'm surprised there weren't more bids, but I will put the cash towards a boost controller as I think this is going to be my most effective performance improvement :)

I would have entered a bidding war but unfortunately the journey to pick up the exhaust would have caused me some trouble. In the end I ordered one new from 2fast2cool..... can't wait for it to turn up now :)
