Hi all,

First post! I'm looking at buying a zed, I've found one that looks mint with one exception, as described below in the ad:

Turbo's are smoking

The smoke is blue and after removing the intercoolers and finding oil within them we concluded that the turbo seals have gone.

The car still drives fine and boosts / holds boost although it gives off a lot of smoke and I would not suggest travelling a long distance in it as it will probably attract the wrong sort of attention.

How much cash am I looking at to have it fully checked out and rectified? Is this a cheap fix if the seals are indeed busted, or is it gonig to break the bank? Car looks a steal at £2000 apart from this so if the fix is cheap & reliable I might go for it...

Thanks

FR

The last thing that is would be a 'cheap fix'.

Mines not smoking+ cheaper than that+ is a cheap fix.- see £1500ono pistonheads advert-shameless plug!

Its an engine out job. Budget for around 1200-1500 if paying a garage to remove engine and a Professional Turbo specialist to recondition the tubs.

This is of course assuming it is the turbo's.

Many years ago similar symtoms and it turned out to be piston rings and 1 knackered turbo seal.

Further investigation before parting with 2K ;)

Sounds like it could be your rings and you're passing oil through them which is entering the inlet tracks and down into the ICs.

Get a compression test done before you take the engine out.
