thinking about this for a while now,

my daily drive is a new beemer 5 series and when you shut the door or go for a drive its just sounds solid

now i was thinking some sound proofing/deadning would make the zed sound a little more chunky if you know what i mean :hyper:

am i on the right tracks with this? doing as much as i can doors/underfloor/boot/bulkhead

will this help? im sure bassologist on here sells the stuff :nana2:

any thoughts gents

I had much the same thoughts with the doors. Tightened up the window runners to stop the rattles and sprayed the insides with cavity wax. It sounds far better closing the door now.

Im looking at doing this while the car is off the road. i was going to use dynamat and do the whole car. but im not sure how much weight it will add??

I dyamatted my boot floor and the area under the rear seats..etc on my first Z , but never noticed any difference in road noise..etc

I think dynamatting the doors would make the most difference as they do lack that solid feel of some other cars. I know a few members have done this, inc Funkysi so be interesting to hear their feedback.

Bassologist not been on here in a year.

2/3 rolls just for the boot:eek:

The weight could add up then lol!!! I think i might turn the zx in to a cruser rather than speed

The foam used under laminate flooring is good for use it the boot floor+ taped to the back of the carpet.Light too.

Didn't notice the difference I'd have wanted. I can't compare like for like regarding audio as I pulled all the old stuff out when I sound deadened the doors. Makes a bit of difference when you close the door and also around the door handle that sometimes sounds a little 'tinny'. Makes more of a thud rather than a crash.

The main thing in the door that can cause rattles is a worn plastic knuckle that sits on the sliding rod toward the back. They wear out and when the window is wound down, it can sometimes sound rattly.

Ooooh god response on this seems a few are doing it doors being the main one as they do sound a bit tinny :o

cant remember what bassologist was selling said it was as good as dynymat but cheaper

or someone mentioned the spray on stuff is this any good? :)

i highly recommend http://www.talkaudio.co.uk to do some serious research on this... there is a wealth of information/tips on there.

if it is road noise you are trying to eliminate then sound deadening wont make a huge amount of difference, if any... sound deadening stops the vibrations in the panels caused by the vibes from speakers etc to keep the sound in the car. there are products available to filter the noise coming from the road/exhaust etc that is placed on top of the sound deadening under the carpet... in fact there are so many different products available that, by the time you have finished, your carpet will be up to your steering column, your car will weigh the same as the ss enterprise and you will have remortgaged your house!

for buying spares i will highly recommend Car Audio Direct ... after days and hours of research the second skin damplifier is what i invested in for sound deadening as it is alot cheaper than dynamat and comes out far superior in performance. i personally avoided any cheap alternatives after reading many nightmare stories of aftermath results! as for noise barriers noise barriers/filters, there are several options available for different jobs but are shockingly expensive and they are essentially just sheets of closed cell foam... very much the same as the roll up mats used for camping! i contacted cad to discuss this and was told that it is essentially the same material but their products have been 'tuned' to the specific frequencies of road noise. i bought some rolls of camping mat from ebay for less than a tenner to see for myself but have yet to fully blitz the interior.
