I need to drain the oil out of the autobox on my breaker but my drain pan doesn't have a drain plug  (I thought it was only NA's that didn't have them?).

From what I can see I need to remove the drain pan bolts and the strainer then drain the oil. Am I going to get a face full of oil when I take the drain pan off or is there more to it?

Also, do some TT autos have no drain plug or have I got an N/A autobox/sump pan on my car?

Cheers

Dave

Cheers, that's what I was thinking. Is the oil going to come pouring out all over the place though?

LOL yeah prob, depends how steady your hand are.. prob easier with an extra pair... to hold steady as your taking out the bolts....

Come on over here we can do both the Zeds together.... as i need to do mine at some point...

Can't move it mate, it's a write off..lol Your welcome to come over to me though if you want a hand doing yours ;)

Looks like I'm getting a face full of oil tomorrow then..lol

Can't you pack something under it to hold it up while you take out the bolts and then whip the packing away leaving it all to pour out into a waiting bowl or bucket.

You can stick a tube down the dipstick hole and pump it out. Have done this on a UK auto (and then found it had a fookin drain plug!)

I'm draining it before I take it off my breaker, but that said my other zed needs this doing as well! Hope that has a drain plug :x: I think it needs to be dexron II fluid and about 8L but don't quote me on that!

Dave, you won't get 8 Ltrs out mate as the converter will still hold some oil, you will only get 3 or 4 Ltrs out, also if you can measure the oil that comes out you know how much to put back in.

Cheers Paul, that's handy to know :duffer: Do you know how I can get the oil out of the converter? Need to drain it all for removing :)

I thought drain plugs were on NA boxes only. I bought a underbed storage box on wheels from Wilko's circa £7, obviously remove the lid, but have now used it effectively on 3 Z's and didn't spill a drop. It is best to hinge it down from one end to get the bulk out. I have always replaced the gaskets but as they seem to come away in one piece attached to the sump pan and are a sod to get off! I am sure I could of used a bit of instant gasket and put the old ones back.

Think its just certain zeds have em and others dont. Mine is a TT and has one but i have been told i am lucky as a lot dont.
