I decided to take the targas off yesterday. Absolutely loved it, so nice to be in the fresh air while being (surprisingly effectively) kept warm by the heater.

The only thing was though, it's such a faff and takes so long to get the panels in the bags and then strapped down! I was wondering (as above) if anyone has devised anything to make it the process quicker? I haven't given it any detailed thought yet, but I can imagine some sort of clip system on the boot floor, possibly that can fold down under the boot floor when not in use, that would literally allow you to just 'slot' the panels in and hold them in place, and then away you go! I'm going to have a think about it when I start thinking about my sub/amp install, but has anyone done anything similar?

Phill,

As you have already said it a PITA to out them in properly... My first zed was mising both bags and straps so they were just laid in he boot....

also as you mentioned above.... and in the pic below my install has enough lip in it to keep the tagra pannel securly in place with no where to go.... i also remade the taga bags a little bigger to help in getting them in and out quicker.... :D

What you need is thicker, stronger targa bags like mine....

But I don't know what car they are from

I should of got a slick top - mine never come off because they don't fit in the boot

Interesting stuff.

I was thinking more of something that would hold them without the need for bags, as getting them in the bag seems to be the hardest bit to me. As I say I've not given it much detailed thought yet, but was thinking of some sort of bracket/clip system that would obviously have to hold the two panels slighty apart so that they don't scratch. Probably won't be simple, but I do tend to like a challenge!

In my old MR2 they used to store against the rear bulkhead with straps. Don't think there's enough room in the shorties to do that though :(

I keep a big winter coat in my boot (if i ever broke down at night) so what i do (and did it yesterday too) was put on in the boot wrapped the coat around it and placed the other one in the back seat and moved the passenger seat back so it couldnt move! both are protected and if it starts to rain you can quickly grab Driver Targa as its only in the back seat!

I never used to bother with the straps tbh. Just the bags. I rarely used to remove the targa's anyway though.

Sorry I didn't explain what I was meaning....

With my bags being a lot stiffer it makes it a very simple 'place in' job. They are also fully padded for the protection of the glass, unlike the flimsy bags you get in the Zed. You just open with one hand while pushing in with the other hand, the bag stays strapped to the other bag, still sitting in the boot, very easy, very simple!

Well I think so anyway :D

Where did you find those bags?

Who? Me? They were in the car when I bought it. I've never found out for sure what car they came from, or even if they were custom made (but if they were, a hell of a lot of work has gone in for a one-off)

I don't store the targas in the car unless I am away with it in France or whatever. If it's nice, I'll take them off and leave them in the garage.

I've never used the targa bags or straps......

.......I just lay them in the boot:wack:

First one "glass down" then the second one overlapping with the "glass up"

I have a light coat and a picnic blanket in the boot; one each of which I place between the painted edge of the targas and the boot wheel arch trims.

I've never had any issues with damage.......so far;)

i used to do that but found they sat lower and moved less if you have both glass up but facing opposite directions so the painted edge is opposite each other..

cant they be strapped in the back seat with the seat belts????

Nope they arent long enough! i tend to put mine in the back seat and a coat between the painted areas in the middle (if not putting one in the boot)

now thats just asking for it to rain !

  • 5 months later...

Are bthere any companies that would either mould or 'score out' of a sheet of thik polystyrene to make one piece which would hold both targas, one on each side?

Pizza for Daves Zed...........

I have a nice Nissan beach towel kept in the boot....(I don't have any bags) I lay the first targa down, then lay the towel on top then the second targa goes on top and strapped down..... takes about 30 sec's.

They don't move around and don't scratch :)

I dont have any bags either.

I just place one glass down and the other on top glass up oposite way around and strap them in like that.

back seat. as i have a boot build so no room in the boot- otherwise if i know 100% its not gonna rain and im staying local they stay in the house :D

i just used a old thick blanket that i used to keep in the shed, i ould put one on the boot, place the blanket over then put the other one on top and wrap it around and use the rest of the blanket to stop them sliding about, was the quickest way for me to do it
