:x:;)

each to there own, I dont know the words to their National Anthem. :smash::p

Just watched the important bits only and regardless of peoples personal views on Americans, America or indeed how the anthem was sung, I hope that President Obama will achieve what he's set out to do. He's facing a difficult road ahead and will require time, patience and understanding before progress can be made. I can't help but feel that an unrealistic expectation has been placed upon Pres. Obama and his new administration just because he is the first [black] President. He seems bright enough to face problems head-on and hopefully will surround himself with bright, progressive thinking advisors. I, for one, wish him and his administration well, a lot seems to be resting on his shoulders ...

We do have some American Members, so please voice your opinions in an adult and respectfull manner.

And dont forget...If it wasn't for America...we would all be German. ;)

Not bothered about what he said re policies or Whether they say they won the war for us (*****cks) what I am narked with is it is the anthem of this country and it annoys me that they insulted it

When we won gold at the Olympics I was proud when my countries anthem was played

When Hamilton won a grand prix and the anthem was played I was proud

I am proud of my nations anthem and the jumped up yanks have no right to insult it

Sure it's cheesey, but doesn't bother me in the slightest. Better than what Cliff Richards did with 'The Lords Prayer'.

Someones been watching too much Saving Private Ryan ;)
Never seen it fella.

Hear Hear!

Its certainly not just thanks to the Americans that a world war was won even if they have brain washed a generation to think it was, there should really be an uproar over the national anthem being messed with but it shows what state this country is in as half probably didnt even notice.

Never seen it fella.

Tom Hanks and his mates win the war despite the best efforts of some posh talking Brits to lose it.

I was only being sarcastic. Sorry if I offended ya :duffer:

Lots of History around "God save the Queen". Dont quite understand how anyone could be offended by it's use, I think it shows a respect for our heritage. I must admit when I first moved to the UK and heard God save the Queen I was a bit shocked that a song I so closely identified with America was based on the British National anthem.

Now if people want to use this as an excuse to have another go at Americans then bring it on! As an American living in the UK I am used to taking the abuse and am happy to respond in kind.

Some key facts -

"God Save the King" was the first song to be used as a national anthem, although the Netherlands' national anthem, Het Wilhelmus, is older. Its success prompted a number of imitations, notably in France and, later, Germany. Both commissioned their own songs to help construct a concrete national(ist) identity. The first German national anthem used the melody of "God Save the King" with the words changed to Heil dir im Siegerkranz, and sung to the same tune as the UK version. The tune was either used or officially adopted as the national anthem for several other countries, including those of Russia (until 1833) and Switzerland (Rufst Du, mein Vaterland or O monts indépendants, until 1961). Molitva russkikh, considered to be the first Russian anthem, was also sung to the same music.

It is also the melody to the United States patriotic hymn "America" (also known by its first line, "My Country, 'Tis of Thee"), and was played during the Presidential Inauguration parade of President George W. Bush on 20 January, 2001 and sung by Aretha Franklin prior to the inauguration of Barack H. Obama on 20 January, 2009. In Iceland it is sung to the poem of Eldgamla Ísafold. The tune is also used as Norway's royal anthem entitled Kongesangen, and was used for the Swedish royal anthem between 1805 and 1893, entitled Bevare gud vår kung.

The tune is still used as the national anthem of Liechtenstein, Oben am jungen Rhein. When England played Liechtenstein in a Euro 2004 qualifier, the same tune was therefore played twice, causing some minor confusion.

The melody of "God Save the King" has been, and continues to be, used as a hymn tune by Christian churches in various countries. The United Methodists of the southern United States, Mexico, and Latin America, among other denominations (usually Protestant), play the same melody as a hymn. The Christian hymn "Glory to God on High" is frequently sung to the same tune, as well as an alternative tune that fits both lyrics.

Use in other Commonwealth countries

"God Save the King/Queen" was exported around the world via the expansion of the British Empire, serving as each country's national anthem. Throughout the Empire's evolution into the Commonwealth of Nations, the song declined in use in most states which became independent. In some countries it remains as one of the official national anthems, such as in New Zealand,[35] or as an official royal anthem, as is the case in Canada, Australia, Jamaica and the Isle of Man, Tuvalu, to be played during formal ceremonies involving national royalty or vice-royalty; in Australia, the song has standing through a Royal Proclamation issued by Governor-General Sir Ninian Stephen on 19 April 1984.[36] Two or three bars form a part of the Vice Regal Salute played either for Governors-General, Governors, or Lieutenant-Governors.

The National Anthem of the United Kingdom is also used in all British Overseas Territories.

Not botherd about the N/anthem, all i know is that i spent a lot of time in america WDc
