Since I get quite a lot of emails regarding the 'consult'-software we're creating, here's a little update. We're very far with it and have 2 versions at the moment..a DOS-version for lower-end laptops (486's) and a Windows version for the higher end laptops. The part that enables you to monitor and test the engine-ECU and the Aircon-ECU is as good as finished. We still need to complete the part that enables you to test/monitor the ECU's of the HICAS and the A/T. Since neither of us have a Z with an autobox, the A/T-part will be a little bit difficult to test/develop for us. I have put up a small preview (screenshots) of some of the current features of the …

So come-on people. All I've heard so far is how some of you are in the West and most of you in the south. What about all you Midlanders? Any of you from Notts-Derby-Mansfield area? I spotted a black ZX a couple of weeks ago near the alfreton area - are you out there?

Hi guyZ, After investigating a grinding noise coming from the rear under braking, I have found one of the pads to be completely worn out This would have been the first part to check anyway but...... The reason I have put this post up is because from a quick glimpse everything looked ok - the outer pads had around 8mm on them.... On removing the inner pads as well the problem became very obvious:- ..and just to show the wear properly:- As can be seen above, only one pad wore out severly. I think this was caused by the twonk who had my car before me fitting cheap crappy pads..... could have been a stone getting between the pad and disc and explod…

I feel that the forum has been getting too intellectual and up-market so thought I should offer the following. Hiya! Could someone please explain, in easy to understand term, how the diameter of the hole in the boost jet relates to a particular amount of increase in boost. I will be installing a JWT ECU chip & induction system in the very near future and need to know what "gas tourch welding tips" to get. I'm not looking to push the envelop too far. Any info would be very welcome. Thanks Danny PS - any suggestions where to get the "boost jets"?

All, I think my clutch is on its last legs, bits high up the pedal travel and sometimes engages with a 'clonk' in lower gears. Not slipping at all though, I assuming its worn. It's due a service next month so I'll get the spanner monkeys to check the master/slave cylinders for leaks, fluid levels ok though. Anyways, Mandela has quoted me just under £400 to supply and fit (inc VAT) for a standard unit. Are aftermarket units cheaper/better? I'm not looking at Stage69 tuning, maybe just inlet/exhaust upgrade early next year, so will the stock unit be up to that? Glenn

Can anyone tell me how the breather kit, that Johnny sells, is working. I don't want to disturb the man himself, as I heard he's rather busy. I'm just trying to decide which way to go. I've got a diagram of a breather kit that Stillen recommends and wanted to see if Johnny's setup is equivalent or better. Appreciate any info. Maciej

Dropped into my local Nelson to pick up an oilfilter & sump plug washer (total incl. VAT =£8.00) and decided to ask if they could quickly re-tighten my fanbelt pulley as it is making horrible screeching noises on cold starts. Was absolutely dumb founded when their head mechanic "popped" out and said "why don't you just spray the engine bay with Mr Sheen - that should get rid of all sorts of squeels for a few weeks". I kid you not! Aparently Nelson likes to put extra grease on the belts when they've been taken off. Needless to say that I jumped in the car, welded my foot to the floor never to return! Danny Oh yeah, and since when does a Consult not work on …

Morning all! Just thought I'd sound the alarm bells with regards to those of us with small bullseyes, chips and cracks in our windscreen. I just had an unfortunate experience with a lorry, lots of little rocks (could have been gravel) and close proximity. I ended up with several small bullseye chips in the windscreen (and numerous paintchips on the bumper and lower spoiler). Took it to my local Auto Windscreen Repairshop and had it all fixed on the insurance (only if you're fully comp). I asked the guy if cars pass MOTs if they have a star or bullseye outside the line of sight of the driver and he showed me documents stating that a car with any chip, star, bullseye o…

Before I start, Harvey is considered the best ZX mechanic in NZ by many... I am totally lost with my Z. A rebuilt trans, airflow meter, new plugs, injectors cleaned, virtually an engine rebuild by Harvey misc plugs sensors etc changed and over $9000 spent by the warranty company,. $1500 spent by me, and my car is worse than when I started. No blame on Harvey here folks, he's done a great job on the engine and is an A1 mechanic, but right now I have so much conflicting info I am just about ready to smash this S&*t heap car to pieces. It hesitates under acceleration and the revs surge and fall, surge and fall.....and Fuel consumption is at an all time low wen…

Lads Although I came from humble beginnings in my lowered, de-badged, chipped, arse wiped Belmont CDi, and then on to my Escort RS Turbo (Wash your mouth out - hated it anyway), then on to my Cavalier Calibre 20Ltr 16v 180BHP (Loved it but screwed me for £5K in 12 months) and then lastly on to my.....DON'T LAUGH.....Rover 416 SLi.....I SAID DON'T LAUGH, I always had a nice box in the boot that made lots of thumping noises. Will somebody please tell me where the hell I'm meant to put that box now. Douglas Barder would have problems fitting in a ZX boot. Okay, picture the scene: I walk in from work at 8.50, 'phone ring, it's my mum telling me that they've been without 'leccy for the last 23 hrs, can they borrow my genny. No problem, put 2Kw genny behing the passenger seat with the seat back leaning forward so as not to scratch the leather. So off I go down my country lane and up to the M20, join the M20 put me welly down upt0 100, pass everything and keep going, then I notice in my mirror light approachiong very fast from behind, 'feck, plod' back off to 80 and see what happens. Calibra passes me, not plod at all, ba$$ard, welly down, bye, bye Calibra at about 125, back off, point made. Sure enough Vince t…
