Tyres for JSpec

Okay guys, I nearly met the scenery last night, cr@p Japanese tyres partly to blame, heavy right foot similar.

What are the best tyres to choose.

Consensus seems to be the Bridgestone S03s. What if I don't want to spend that much? How about the Dunlop Sport 8000 or the Continental Sport or the Pirelli P6000?

Anyone had any experiences of these, I used to have Good Year, Eagle Venturas on my last car and they were brilliant, transformed the car in the wet.

Any suggestions and prices would be appreciated.

Bear in mind I'm running standard rims which are 225/50/16's all round

Thanks

Tim

S-03's all round. Should only cost you about £100 ea from Micheldever, a little less if they post them to you and you get them fitted locally.

I've just come up with another one, any comments on:

Good year, Eagle F1 GS-D2?

Thanks

Tim

From what I've read;

Eagle F1's - good but a little hard wearing to be a true sticky tyre. OK in the wet.

Bridgestone S03's - have these, not at all biased honest biggrin.gif - fantastic dry, great wet

Yokohama - great tyres, OK in the wet (not as good as the S03's in general), some new designs squeal though according to some.

Go for the Bridgestone's - tyres cost £400, straigening your car costs a lot more...

Stage: Rather Ill

Hiya

I've had continental sports on my UK spec car for 5/6 months, they are excellent in the wet and dry, top tyre I say, no signs yet os wear and I've done a good 6,000 miles on them.

Regards

JOHN

Tim,

I've got Michelin Pilots on my car and they are very good. They generate a fair bit of tyre noise at motorway speeds but I cured that by getting a Scorpion exhaust biggrin.gif

Decent tyres in wet and dry but not quite as good as the Bridgestones. I think they are a slightly harder comound and seem to have worn very little after over a year (12000 miles).

The thing is, I'm not sure how much cheaper these are compared to the Bridgestones, priobably not much. If you do find them cheaper then I can recommend them.

Andy

Thanks for the feedback, pls keep it coming.

Have found another interesting site though:

I got a quote from Micheldever tyres near Basingstoke (01962)774437 earlier this week

for a pair of jap spec tyres. £219.60 for a pair of 225/50 ZR16 Bridgestone S03 inc Vat, fitting, balancing etc.

They can also send them to you to be fitted by your local tyre dealer.

Two important notes when considering speed rating:

We do not recommend downgrading the speed rating of your tyres. This may

result in poor handling and unpredictable steering. However, if you want

better cornering response, there is no problem installing a higher speed

rated tyre on your vehicle.

Never mix and match tires with different speed ratings on your vehicle. This

will cause serious problems with the handling of your vehicle.

Below is a list of speed ratings along with the corresponding speeds they

represent. Remember, the speeds are test speeds, not recommended speeds. T

up to 118 MPH , H up to 130 MPH , V up to 149 MPH , W up to 168 MPH , Y up

to 186 MPH , Z up to 149 MPH and over.

I have 225 50 V 16 EXTREMO FULDA at £71.06p on my Z at pesent, no problems with them at all. Dry Really 'Grippy' and almost the same in Wet conditions (but who really pushes their Z in the wet!)

Interesting reading that list, means I won't be doing anymore than 149mph in my Z then!
