General Discussions - 300ZX Related

recently noticed a noise coming from the rad fan area at the front... starts at 2k revs and goes to maybe 4k revs.. its like a bellow, and actually sounds like i have a v12 8ltr monster engine in the car, which of course i dont... its deffo engine speed related, just not sure if i can stop the fan in any way (a simple one) so i can say its definitely that... if it needs sorting then i'll sort it, i just need to be sure.. also i'm a bit concerned that this may harm the car, altho its unlikely and at the RR i just went to it performed very well, so probably wont have an impact on performance.. any help welcome.. firstly i think i may have a vac leak i can hear hissing on the passenger side rear of the engine, tried all the pipes cant find it,also sounds like one on the drivers side also by the egr feed pipe can hear it as soon as the revs pick up nothing, could it be because i have silicone pipes i can hear vacuum in the pipes? (must say plenhum has been off and have done a water/vac bypass) so it has a new pipe to the egr, alos where the iaa plugs in there are two connectors in that area which one plugs into the higher of the 2 valves yellow or white? not sure if i may have reversed these,although the car ticksover fine as soon as i turn on the a/c the revs drop instead of inc…

I recently got my 1st 300 and it looks like i was done as I have just found out the head gasket has blown on it. It's a 1990 J spec 300zx TT auto. I am seriously gutted! Does anyone know roughly how much i should be paying for the labour to do it? also where would be best to get the parts and which gaskets and stuff would be best? Is there anything i should know , do's or don'ts on doing the job?? Are all the parts i will need the same on a J spec as the UK cars? Any help anyone can offer would be great as this is something i know nothing about and i want to make sure it is all done right and i don't want to be ripped off. My Z is 1990 TT SWB Manual. I went out to my zed last night and it wouldnt start. The starter turns the engine over and over but it doesnt catch. (The starter has a habit of just grinding on its own sometimes but thats another story.) Checked fuses and connectors (had history of connector problems) still no joy. Took coil pack out, there is 12v on the middle connector pin but i dont think im getting a spark. Although i have a worry that the spare spark plug i was testing it with wasnt seating right, do zeds have longer spark plug ends? About to run ECU diagnostic to see what it flashes. How many of you have removed there fan shroud on your standard radiators and have seen any change in the Temperature gauge Would it be better to leave it on or leave it off on a standard radiator Will be looking for a Koyo Rad later on but just considering it for the meanwhile

Putting the cambelt on now and the released the auto adjuster and it was reluctant to push out, so I helped it and out she came. But it doesnt stay pushing hard, it has a bit of back play, about half a mm if you push on the belt. I dont think thats right, im sure it should be tight all the time, but wanted to ask you lot before I put it all back togther again.

I've got a 1990 Z32 TT, and in the last couple of days I've noticed that when I touch the throttle at idle (hot or cold) the revs actually drop before rising again. This makes it very jerky moving off, and nearly cut me out once or twice. Normal idle speed is about 1200, revs drop to 1000 or less before rising. It then stopped doing it for a bit, but this morning when I came to start she just wouldn't fire. Starter was running fine, fuel pump OK, but no ignition. I cleaned out the TPS connector, WD40'd various others but no luck. Gave it one last go and she started up, but idle all over the shop. Hi guys can anyone tell me what the widest possible offset is for alloy wheels on a zed with standard arches, im wanting some new alloys but i want them to come as close to inline with the arches as possible without any arch mods. also what is the widest wheels and tyres you can fit on a standard arched zed. cheers si p.s. how is ofset measured?

Well all the amps on my stock bose system are dead they just put out a high pitched noise. So i hooked my speakers directly to my new h/u even the dash speaker but one of my rear speakers is blown and my h/u only puts out 40 watts and the speakers strain the deck so i was thinking of replaceing the rear speakers with some 100w peak ones and running a amp to all the speakers but befor i do i was wondering what the peak wattage on the stock speakers in my 90 2+2 thx

I know it's a big ask, but does anyone nearby have a spare ECU I can borrow to prove if mine is buggered (or not). Been trying to sort my TPS problem and need to eliminate things but don't really want to fork out £100 plus only to find it's not the ECU at fault. Other option would be to swap out the ECU from another car, but not sure how willing folks would be to do that (it's a 10 minute job). Mines a Jap Auto TT if it makes any difference. For those that haven't seen the other thread, my datascan report 0.92v for the TPS at closed throttle, but a multimeter shows that the TPS is spot on at 0.44v and I replaced the TPS thinking it was that at fault. …

Is there any links/writeup to changing a S1 PTU to a S2 PTU ? I am ashamed to say, I couldn't even find the S1 PTU today after faffing around for 30 mins under the hood. Is the conversion a doddle or a pain ? However having problems finding it in the first place. Has anyone got a photo of it whilst on the engine ? Also any ideas where this temp sensor goes ? (Just got one off MJP except always thought it was a yellow one but was given a blue version for some reason).

where is the fuse for the turn signal?:confused: Z 32 got only two fuse box and they are in the engine bay?

When I get in my car and drive it over the speed bumps to the main road when the weather is hot my car makes this noise (clicking)...from the shocks I think. When I get on the main road it stops. It does NOT sound good. Has anyone had this? I don't know what it is but it sounds like the wheels will fall off. Or is it just the hot weather on the shocks. PS. This is NOT a Bobby Ball Pee take. I need to know what the noise is over the speed bumps. Thanks Zed bods.

I couldnt find a guide on here but did see pointers like keep the caliper supported so.... I saw the 2x 19mm bolts that looked to hold the caliper in place and removed them, sure enough the caliper came away and I rested it on an axel stand so not to stress the pipe. the disk came away very easily and i swapped it for the new one. So far so good and I was feeling very pleased with myself never having tried brakes before! Now I can't get the caliper back on! Do I need to remove the brake pads first? and If so, how? Please help as I want to go to Modified madness tomorrow!

How important is it to change these. Engines been rebuilt but not sure if they were done. Wanted to put all the cambelt etc back on this weekend, or would it be worth waiting to get some VVT springs and do them as well.
