General Discussions - 300ZX Related

A/C hasn't worked for a long time. Condenser was shot. I've replaced the condenser and had it regassed. All electrical systems are functioning okay - and the clutch operates and runs the aircon (and cools okay)... but draws 25amps to do so. (Obviously blowing the fuse, so I was operating it directly) Has anyone had this problem and managed to solve it? or Does anyone have a replacement clutch assy (or maybe a complete compressor) that I can buy from them? Had my Zed for 3 days and its just failed its MOT. Nothing too drastic, No reserve travel in the handbrake, O/S/F and N/S/F bottom ball joints and the horn doesnt work. Also the lowering springs are not sitting in the cup at the top of the shock and i dont think they are the correct springs for the car. Anyway, can the ball joints be fitted seperatley or do you need to fit the entire bottom arm? A set of srpings have been ordered from whiteline and we shoudl be back on the road by the start of the week. -Barry

I'm taking everything down to the engine shop Monday. I'm also having it balanced and knife edged. This is what they have requested: Heads, valves, springs. Clutch cover, Flywheel, bolts. Crank Rods and pistons Manifolds and gaskets. I don't have the manifolds yet and i told them this and they said they could make do but........ does it mean it wont be as good job as they can't match them? and what does this actually mean? Also i havn't recieved my new springs yet, my mechanic said to supply the old ones, would this be ok and why do they need the valves and springs anyway?

Just had a phone call from "The Big Fella" and he has asked me to send a message to every one that he is still alive and kicking, Bless Him.His recovery is progressing slowly but I am sure he will get there in the end.I must admit I was filling up as he spoke to me as I know it must have been difficult for him.Fingers crossed for you Simon and a speedy recovery.........Jackie & Vinz

I'm fitting some Brembo R34 calipers and want to upgrade my brake lines. Can anyone tell me where i can get a set and who will know if the lines will fit ok with the R34 calipers? Thanks Alex

hi just got some jap clocks with convertor fitted to back red and green wires are fixed to the rear of the clocks but where do the blue and yellow ones go they have male and female bullet connions opn them. also speedo clock and rev counter are right past the 180 and 9 thousands revs. will they return back to normal when powered up. cheers all

I am planning an engine swap for my zed just to do something differnt and these are the choices before me : VQ30DET 280hp/285tq VQ30DE-K 222hp/ 217tq VQ35DE 255hp/246tq (350z) all mated to a 6 speed gearbox.... my dilemma is go with the VQ30DET where little is know about it , go with a VQ30DE-k and use the extra cash to turbo chargre it Go with the VQ35DE but will have to stay NA for a while....what do you guys think?? Why i choose the VQ line of engines is because they are 30% lighter than a VG and close to 40% lighter with the VQ35

Managed to out-accelerate one of these fairly easily on the M6 the other day. It didn't seem that quick for a 350hp car. The driver eventually slowed down to 45mph to see what it was LOL! Do they lose a lot through the extra diff?

Evening all, A sad day today, my old zed shell was taken away to be crushed :cry: It's been in a lockup for ages now until I pulled my finger out and got rid today. An interesting fact is that the whole car can be lifted by the t-bar middle support which surprised me, and without an engine it sits dead level when lifted by the t-bar support. Might be useful knowledge for someone in the future. Cheers Pete
