  6. but without the battery it wont run?... and when you put the battery back and try to start it, fuel will piss all over the engine bay? and when you sort that it still might not work because of missing wires? :smartass: would make an intereting mission for the aa man!
  7. if you have or know some1 with a trade card, then halfords are cheap and somewhere you wont have to wait for delivery
  8. that was one of my initial thoughts. it wont do it on hard acceleration because the higher boost pressure reseals it... over run - when you accelerate through a gear the engine is driving the rear wheels... if you then come off the throttle, whilst still in gear with the clutch up, the wheels are then driving the engine because of the momentum and inertia of the cars forward (or reverse!) speed. the engine, with no throttle input, is trying to settle back down to idle speed causing a resistance, 'engine braking'. as jimmer said, even a compression test wont always prove an over run smoke issue so as far as they were concerned it was probably hunky doorey. did you ask them to investigate a smoke issue or has it only recently started? you really need to be sure on the colour of the smoke because you could be barking up the wrong tree... a faulty o2 sensor could cause fuel issues which in turn could be evident with black smoke.
