  1. That pretty much summed it up for me mate.. Hopefully i'll be the owner of her soon :hyper: J
  2. hmm I can envision a network cable running from the hub out the window/door to the car :( USB drives are fairly cheap now so you should beable to get a 1gb one fairly easily.. J
  3. That setup should be fine mate. Athough i wouldnt bother with the WiFi card TBH.. i'd invest in a decent sized USB hard drive. transfering large amount of files over Wifi unless its 54mb or 108mb would take ages. J
  4. Doh - sorry mate - i didn't see you were from Finland till after i posted lol.. I've been looking at car PC's for a while now aswell - plus i'm an IT technician so that helps ;) It really depends on what you want the machine to do GPS or just a media centre?? Ok, first off you could use XP home, the only differance to Pro being the added network support - for a car PC its not really needed. Monitor i would use a liliput touchscreen - they have a proven track record for in car PC's. The creatives card is probably overkill but a nice bit of kit. The M1-ATX will start & shut down your pc on the ignition & is probably the best on the market. As for the Motherboard - the SP8000 will run at 800MHz so not really fast.. it would handle mp3 playback but if your planning on combining GPS/MP3 or Movie playback i'd pay a bit more for at least a M10000 or the MII12000. The rest is ok, but i think unless your storing a lot of stuff 200gb is a lot of space, plus the power requirements would kill the car battery. you really want to try & keep the even the specs with the power requirements. J
  5. My mistake.... i stand corrected - its a Z32 :headvswal J
  6. They were probably talking about WMA format - which is a form of encoding used by windows media player when you save tracks from CD to your computers hard drive. Ipods are very cool - i'm just about to invest in a 60gb one myself http://www.apple-shop.co.uk/ipod/?src=gg-gena-xipod Now when they were talking about IP addresses (not sure why though.) Basically this is a unique string of numbers that identifies a computer or server on the Internet. These numbers are normally shown in groups separated by periods. Example: 216.239.51.100 is Google's IP address. If a machine does not have an IP address, it is not really on the Internet. its basically a form of identification. J
  7. I'd be carefull buying kit from the states mate.. after adding on shipping & tax etc could be a bit pricey.. but then again a few of the US guys have Nano-ITX pc's the lucky sods. A very good UK based site is http://www.mini-itx.com they do all the kit you need. I would recommend an Opus power supply combined with a Nehemiah motherboard. You could probably get a 1ghz based board for 100 quid. J
  8. There are quite a few now.. Autoroute 2006 now has voice direction. As Legrath suggested - MapMonkey is pretty good & mp3car.com has all manner of info on car pc's J
  9. Cheers guys. I worked out i'd be covering roughly 6000 miles a year to & from work, so classic insurance is a good idea.. what kind of quoats am i looking at for 25 year old - 3 years NCD 0 pointsor accidents? J
  10. Well i must admit i'm debating keeping the Cynos anyway so i might just do as you guys suggest.. Stella - its a z31 as far as i'm aware... scotty - nice Siggy mate ;) J
  11. Hi all, I'm debating buying a 1989 ZX TT soon & using it as a daily driver.... Now i'm going from a Toyota Cynos import 1.5 NA to the 3L TT so running costs will obviously go up.... But my question is - how many of you run your ZX as a daily driver? I currently drive about 20 miles to & from work daily but i'm going to start site visits soon. J
  12. try removing any packet writing software such as the windows update for HighMAT extension.. That one always causes problems with my Sony DVD-RW. J
  13. Cheers Steve I'll give darren a call tomorrow. J
  14. Hi mate - thats cool as i said he's letting me have a play on monday & i'll think about it before i comit. I'm from Tonbridge but work in Dunton Green near Sevenoaks where the car will be available. J
  15. lol cheers guys.. I'm sorly tempted but a mate ran an HPI check & my boss is telling porkies - will confirm the status of the car with him on Monday but he told me he's owned the car for 7 years when the HPI says 3 J
  16. Hi guys, only joined today so i thought i'd say hi. I'm currently looking at buying a realy nice '89 300zx TT. i've got a list of stuff the current owner has done (he's my boss lol) & i can usually tell when something isn't right with a car & i've been reading the FAQ & the rest of the forum's all day & its helped me a great deal with what to look out for. now - before i seriously commit to this i was wondering if there were any other ZX owners in the Kent area who would be willing to take a look at her before i say yes? J
