SIMOS engine IIRC. breather pipe at back of rocker cover can perish & split causing running faults too

brake discs dont last long before they wear/corrode (cheap to do tho) rear calipers can sieze inside where the handbrake linkage goes through, resulting in poor handrake efficiency. make sure the clutch isnt heavy - will need a new clutch assembly, also self adjusting cables are prone to go. check for bearing noise & noisy syncros from box water pumps can leak after a while. errrr thats about it from memory of my VeeDub days what engine is it?

i see yours is a late spec one steve. anyone know if any of our cars went to an upstream & downstrem O2 sensor setup??

most are gonna do pretty similar things really. the main thing you need to know is whether the co your gonna use to map it has experience with the system you choose!! a system that ditches the AFM in favour of a MAP sensor is a must really - most of the systems out there should give you this option. the Link system comes with a 1.5bar sensor built in with the option of upgrading to a higher spec one.

i have fitted them in mine, they will fit but need a bit of fabrication!! i modified the origional speaker brackets to accept them. the only thing to check is the depth, some 6x9's are too deep & will catch on the window. HTH

eibachs are a good spring, drops the car slightly (about 0.8" IIRC) & arnt too expensive :)

LOL mac!! :rofl: well, spoke to my daughter tonight - shes cool about it. another 6 months & shes old enough to drive anyway!! :wack: shes actually not met her yet! she's coming over on sat & were all going out!! hopefully! :) means a lot to me that my daughter is happy about it. feel a bit better now! nice to see the positive feedback from all on here - am a bit nervous esp after my marrage was quite a stressful relationship. i am very wary now TBH. luckily my new g/f is extremely easy going (must be!!). dont think i could ever be with someone 24hrs a day TBH!! i work about 10 hrs a day & out most weekends & evenings. she prob sees me more now than she will when i move in! :rofl:

after living on my own for 9 months or so after splitting up with my mrs of 16yrs, i have met someone who i have been seeing for about 4 months now. we get on really well & was happy with the way things were - she has her own house, i have mine! last night i agreed to move in with her :x: :nelson: :eek: getting nervous now! what do you think?????????

basic checks for charging system: (really should do a faq one day!) 1) check charge rate - with engine running you should see about 14.2v across the battery terminals with all consumers switched off. you *should* also check the charge rate with an ammeter, but most of you prob wont have one with an inductive pickup so i wont go into that! ;) :p 2) check for quiescent current consumption (drain ;) ) - place an ammeter inline to the battery, with everything off you should see less than 0.1amp drain. 3) battery test - best way is with a drop tester that loads the battery, cheaper way is to get a battery hydrometer. cheap little tool that can give a good indication of battery condition. if all the cells have a low s.g. then the battery prob needs charging. if one is very low compared to the others then its got a dead cell & needs replacing.
