  1. My ex caught this on camera - i know it's a small photo but the house she was in was a friend's and when she showed her the photo she went white and said "That's my grandma who died last year!" Also caught this a week before my grandad was diagnosed with cancer and died shortly after: And this one i caught in a graveyard on a ghost hunt one night:
  2. Happy 80th buddy, hope you have a good one :hyper: :)
  3. It's to do with people replacing land with non drainable surfaces so all the extra water goes into their drainage systems and not into your ground. That's why we were very careful about it and put a slight slope of the driveway toward the house and put the gaps in the kerbs to allow drainage into the flower beds. If they ever come round to complain i can show them the photos and the text off their website :) I'm building a garage next year when i've got the money with a proper workshop area so got to learn to brick lay now..... :D
  4. lol, to be fair it was almost as tall as your house with a professional lift in it
  5. Cheers buddy, hmm now that's a good question but from what i understand in planning regs you don't need to apply for permission IF you use permeable bricks and use the correct drainage OR you leave an open land drainage area around the drive which i did. We left 50cm borders all round with gaps inbetween the kerbstones to allow drainage into the borders. I've kept photos of the building working from day one so if the council kick up a fuss i'll just pull them out and hopefully they won't moan :) Just a few more blocks to cut tonight and toss some sand in the gaps and i'll be finished :hyper:
  6. Hahahaha, i think the neighbours must reckon i'm a pikey or something the amount of dodgy second hand furniture in the garden right now
  7. This will last about 2 months tops  Nice little car though! :)
  8. Daz, if anyone should buy it and do it properly it's you :D Dougal, i think Friday that used to spend alot of time on this forum can import them - not sure if he's still operating his business
  9. The long thin ones are much easier than the wide sweepingones. Getting the level was the worst bit. Best thing i can suggest is make up a screed like i did. I set it on the height from the kerbstone then dragged it bit by bit to give a smooth, flat surface that didn't have any divets in it then just compacted it with a whacker plate and it one last time with some loose sand to help the blocks bed in. Don't know what i would have done without it! Make it out of 2 pieces then you can adjust the length by taking the screws out and rescrewing it the right length. I think the kerb stones were 3 feet long and about £1.20 each
  10. Mine was 2 levels of concrete - totally different concrete as well lol Cheers buddy, two things i'd recommend if i were doing it again. 1. Never underestimate just how much hardcore you need to fill a hole, all in all i used 4 bags worth on top of the crushed bricks etc and 4 bags of sand. The sand goes further over a smooth surface so worth taking the time to do it. Secondly get your edges as straight as possible - 3 degrees out isn't much on one end but by the time you get to the other end it's a pain in the arse especially using the herringbone design. Once you're in full flow you can lay a block every 4 seconds and tap it down! The levelling is the worst part to get right, made much worse on mine by the compound curve i designed and sculpted to smooth out the entrance while keeping the right hand side level to go to the side drive but it's so smooth a curve you wouldn't notice just to look at it. Haha, the other half was showing off as always - I banned her from wearing the hot pants she wore washing my car after 2 people nearly crashed the month before  lol Cheers buddy, can't wait to give it a go tonight when i get back :hyper:
  11. Haha, you must be joking me - after 40m2 i'm very loathed to do the final 20 down the side  lol Cheers buddy, my back's in spasms and my arms are burnt red raw but worth every second :)
  12. Right, hopefully in order now
  13. Not zed related but the first driveway i've built so i'm pretty proud :) Well it's taken me since feb to get this far but I finally laid the last full brick on Sunday after working over 20 hours alone this weekend laying the 1500 blocks. When we moved in it looked this which was really lovely but ultimately unless you drove a mini you just couldn't get the cars down the side of the house and it wasn't wide enough to swing them in straight and still get in the kitchen door so decided to build a new driveway. Busy excavations. I took 20 days off work to dig it out myself with help from my bro and the other half for a couple of weekends to dig out the 45 square meters of soil out the ground and it was back breaking work having to remove all the deep set roots out the front on the left. I've been on it pretty much every night since then smashing up the bricks to level it off and help get rid of the soil. Luckily a guy from the down the road took the lot for nothing with his trailer to do his garden. Bricks and hardcore arrived so finished laying the base over the course of the week and laid the final brick on Sunday night. I've still got to lay the edging bricks before i put the cars on tonight but should finally be able to park on it fingers crossed now it's had a couple of days to settle. We've still got enough to do down the side where the zed sits so that's something to do after i've sorted out the shed and mower and start pulling V8 apart to sell on ebay. It looks great though - not bad for a monkey with a basic knowledge of driveways and saved me a couple of grand off the prices quoted to do it. All in all it came to just under £1750 for the lot including all the cutting discs and tarmac for the edging stones
  14. Quavey, blimey - ours is a bit simpler than that but the driveway has been a hell of a job to do ourselves but came in at just over £1700 instead of the £3000-3500 we were quoted. I'll pop some photos up in a bit on the forum (if i still have access to the non-zed related discussion!) Cheers buddy, it's been a learning experience and a half and I don't regret a second of it. Ultimately though it has taught me i should have bought a crate engine in the first place but when you've got the previous owner encouraging you you tend to get carried away and a simple mistake to a non experienced chevy person like ordering the wrong heads that dictate the build and silly mistakes like leaving the diversion cap out in the oil pump/degreeing the cam too far back end up costing you. The idea of a completely stock 300bhp, MODERN V8 with the potential to add a couple of turbos later on seems to be the way to go if i want to stick to the V8 dream and make the money i've invested seem worthwhile. John said Friday's ex car parts are gone now but there is a third setup that might be up for sale for the right money but there's no rush for the time being so plenty of time to research a bit more.
  15. Ah you see: A: I'm stupid enough to try it B: I'm also poor after buying a house hence i have to sell all the parts first and budget properly if i do it C: Same here so i haven't the time to be cutting and getting stuff welded and fiddling around making stuff fit when someone else has already done the hardest work for me and done it properly
  16. I want an easy life buddy, the only reason for considering the kit Jon has access to is the fact all the adapters, mounts and engineering are done apart from remounting the rad and the pipework which i have no problem doing but after 3 years trying to make an engine fit where's it's not supposed to i'd rather just bolt it in, fit the pipes and actually drive it :) With an emerald running it i can then have different maps for drag racing, fast road and motorway cruising which i couldn't do with the carb. V12 would be lovely especially the BMW one but i can't afford to waste another 3 years on the car now especially with no garage :(
  17. I've learnt my lesson about building engine's - leave it to the pros otherwise you just end up losing £9k of your hard earned money :( So whatever i do i'll be buying a solid known engine and bolting it in whether 6 or 8 cylinders :) V12 anyone? lol
  18. We'll see, i have to get the money back from breaking the engine first but that's possibly the way i'm going. Had a brief word with John Dixon about it yesterday and if the kit's still available in a few months then i'll take it off his hands. I need to get rid of all the chevy parts first to get the money in the bank then i'll decide what to drop in it. The other option is 6-7 grand to spend on a TT engine and for that sort of money i could be pushing 400-450bhp reliably if i get it built by someone like jimmer.
  19. LS6/7 is this: ...but no not an LS7 unfortunately. I won't be starting it until the end of the summer now but in the meantime i'll be putting my old silver NA back on the road for the summer so i'll see you at the meets in the next couple of weeks :)
  20. That was one option but it requires alot of fabbing to getting it to work. Let's just say i've had a word with someone on the phone today about a possible option that would just require bolting in and an ecu setting up.... ;)
  21. Happy birthday buddy! :hyper:
  22. Well driveway is done so room for a couple of zeds on there now - don't worry i hadn't forgotten guys :) Just need to sort out the garden (ie get the mower working) and i'll get the invites up :D Well i have 2 options: If i fit a zed lump back in it'll be a modded NA lump again - i never really got on with the TT personally it always felt a bit like driving a big rubber band. The second i'm keep quiet on for the time being until i see how much money i get back but let's just say it could be equally as special and a much quicker build to get working ;)
