every gear, how weird. i still think it's more to do with the torque convertor on the box than the engine or maybe even a vacuum leak that's slurring the gearchanges a bit

On an auto you shouldn't lose boost on gear change. The revs should stay about the same, a little bit of slow gear change. I can't think what the humming noise would be without hearing it matey. The only thing i can think of is that it's to do with the gearbox, maybe a worn torque convertor?
