Few questions, Many Thanks
96 will be a series 4 then. Nice. Rare year that one. These came minus the boost gauge unfortunately. So might be wise getting an aftermarket one fitted maybe. What's this 'turbo thingy' near your leg then??
-
Few questions, Many Thanks
No, the power button is for the autobox. 'Boost' is another word for the positive pressure the turbo produces. You'll see a boost gauge in your instrument cluster. This tells you whether the turbos are in vacuum or spooling and to what pressure. To drive off boost or 'in vacuum', you need to keep the needle under '0'. Which is pretty easy to do if you take it steady. Sounds like you're new to turbo charged engines, not just Zs. ;)

300 for my mate
Also, an ECU upgrade won't give any increase in power. So there must be some other supporting mods, ie boost jets/boost controller.

That is a rotten nose panel if ever I've seen one! Spoiler is a little grim too. Nice mid-level one would look better than the sandal-strap one fitted there.

What do you think about this Z
Shop around. Give Adrian Flux a call, give Broadsure direct a call, give Lyndbrooke Insurance a call. Some companies just don't like grey imports, some really don't care. You need to shop around regardless of what they might have quoted for you in the past. In most cases, yes a JDM can be more expensive to insure, but sometimes, only by a small margin. I pay £280 fully comp on my JDM

JDMs won't be double to insure. You just need to hunt around a bit. I couldn't get my insurance any cheaper than I am paying now even if I had a UK car. The red one looks ok. Hateful revolting rear lights though.

Turbos only need cooling down if they've been on hard boost. The reason they need to cool down is due to the oil that's circulating through them. If a turbo engine is simply turned off after hard use, very hot oil sits in the oil lines and around the turbos. This isn't good, cooler fresh oil needs to have been circulated. The best way to do this is to drive off boost. You're not going to be driving at 100mph and then suddenly decided to come to a halt and turn the engine off. So a bit of advance thinking is that's needed. Turbo timer is pretty useless, unless you're in the habit of running around the neighborhood at high revs, boosting all the way, shutting down the car and leaping out. After a hard run, just let the car recover by running around at reasonable RPMs without laying on any boost, or if you can't do that, just leave it running for 30 secs to a minute before shutting it off. This basically accomplishes what a turbo timer does: allows oil and water to continue circulating through the turbocharger to lessen the chance of "coking," the hard black deposits that form on an overheated shaft or bearings when oil burns on them. Driving off boost is infinitely better for the engine AND turbos than having a turbo timer.

Garages/engine builders capable of building a high spec 300zx.
Jimmer could build you an engine capable of stupid power. It's just a case of choosing the correct parts. You then need to take it somewhere to set the thing up as you'll certainly be wanting stand alone management.
-
Few questions, Many Thanks
No, you don't need it. Personally think they are a bit of a silly gimmick. If you plan ahead, you do not need to use one of these and have the engine sat there idling for 5 minutes. It's best to drive the car off boost for the last 5 mins of your journey. A MUCH more efficient and healthy way to cool your turbos down.

Portugal Z clubs
Z32s are still worth quite a bit in Europe. Far less shit ones than there are over here and of course none of them are as rusty as the titanic types we seem to have. Seen a few on German ebay going for about 12,000 Euro, this one is up for 17,000.

No worries. I've sent him a message. If that fails, I'll give my father a call. He used to live in Portugal and knows a good few of the Portuguese search engines that should be able to help!

There's a chap on the 3ZC who's from Portugal. I'll bung him a PM and see if he knows.

Ebay postage question
You can do that on the invoicing option can't you after you've sold?

Ebay postage question
It's quiet a bulky item!

Ebay postage question
Well this is it, my postage rate was low as I didn't mind absorbing some of the shipping costs, but not if it's to a European destination!

Ebay postage question
I've just sold something on ebay and have listed a basic postage rate. I have not included any international postage rate. Someone in Southern Ireland bid and won the item. Now postage rates will be as for international European will they not which will be substantially higher than just to regular UK destinations. Anyone know where I stand with this? I have contacted the seller to suggest that because I did not list the item with international postage that the postage costs will be higher since this guy is not in the UK. Any info would be great. Thanks

Help my zed has a boost problem
ECU doesn't need a chip to run a boost controller. It needs a chip purely for a different map. Has no baring on EBC.
