Nope, removing them won't affect the running of the car. Those with cat replacement pipes etc always have to junk them. They go faulty too and seize into the original pipes.

TBH, as a track car, you want something small and nimble with a free reving engine. Big slab of E36 ain't gonna give you the shits and giggles like a stripped out Astra GSi or Golf GTi would. Hell, you can get Nova 2.0 16vs for 1500 now.

Sounds like it is mate. Once the valves start coking up due to the blowback, you'll loose a cylinder. Won't take long for that to happen. Your Z sounds like it has a high probability of terminal issues. Without wanting to sound like a kill-joy, I'd diagnose its problems fully before buying a track car.

I think they're called Wattle and Dorb Ltd! LOL. On a serious note, try saving to get it repaired to a good level. I've seen photos of the rest of your car and apart from the roof area, it looks really tidy. Get some new wind deflectors....plenty of those about, targa seals and a roof bar. Then get the filler examined.

Christ time has come round quickly! Z's MOT is actually due at the end of the month, but I'll be in the USA then, so having it done today. Have covered a mere 6,000 miles since last MOT....and since then have fitted yet more new parts. Hoping all should go well. Passed last year with no problems, if there is anything that's wrong with it this year, it'll be minor.
