Pop off the oil filler cap when the car is idling. If it starts pulsing fumes from it, you've got a very tired engine that needs a rebuild.

Incorrect. Not all filters contain the same quality of media, not all are rated to the same beta ratio and not all of them have the same dirty holding capacity. Not saying the partco filters are inferior, I am sure they are perfectly fine, but there are differences between filters regardless of how often you change them, especially in respect of their beta ratio, which is irrespective of frequency of change. Nissan filters are only £6. ;)
