Hahahaha! Hey Steve! Been emailing Mad Mike in the US. Says he has some books at a shop in London that were never paid for. Might have to go and do a bit of investigative work with me!

Spigot rings?
Firstly, measure the diameter of the centre-bore with a pair of verniers. Secondly, look for that in comparisson to the centre bore of the Z32 hubs which, from memory is 66.1mm. You might be able to get away with an off-the-shelf spigot, otherwise, you may have to get some made. Have a scan through these. Some offer options, but you need to measure your wheel's own centre bore before you can select. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=spigot+rings&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR10.TRC0.Xspigot+rings+66.1.TRS0&_nkw=spigot+rings+66.1&_sacat=0

slight misfire on start-up
Generally if it was contacts, it would do it all the time or at least more frequent than on very first startup. Doesn't hurt to clean the MAF connector along with the coil pack connectors and PTU connectors.

See what sort of deposits are on there. Might be that you have a slight drip of oil getting onto one the plugs which is why you're seeing a missfire and subsiquent puff of smoke.

Thanks again guys! Graham, so it's had paint already? Maybe your car just likes to be primer grey! It's a huge bonus having a DD as well as a Z. I was able to take my time pulling the thing to bits and rebuilding it from the comfort of my garage. What colour did you shoot for in the end?

I can't believe your car is still in primer Graham! It must have absorbed the entire contents of The Solent by now! :( Oh thanks Lee! You could always change it to some time 2004 when I originally registered. :p

loose gear stick and grinding noise
Jimmer's in Bristol http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?168-Powerzed He built the engine in my car and has helped me maintain it since I bought it nearly 10 years ago. The engine hasn't missed a beat. Awesome mechanic. Very skilled and takes immense pride in his work. I couldn't recommend him highly enough.

What sort of meets would you like to attend?
I frequent a lot of the Z meets in the USA as I am heavily involved with the scene over there. Generally most meets start at a diner somewhere for a breakfast run. Then a route is selected and we all tend to drive it. I go to many of the meets with the LAZ32 guys in Los Angeles and we often head up into the canyons. The meets usually lasts all day long. Some people do the entire meet, some people do sections. Appreciate that the road network and the amount of members is completely different. There are all sorts of other car events in SoCal also, so there's always something to do. In the UK, there aren't unfortunately as the car scene....well, there really isn't one. The last meet I went to, last month actually, we all met up at 'Supercar Sunday' which is like Cars and Coffee. Jay Leno usually turns up to that one. We got Bruce Jenner instead (Kim Kardashian's step Dad....as he only lives round the corner from where the meet is). Then the guys all went off for a cruise down to Malibu. The one before that we all went to MB2 Go-Karting in the morning, then lunch at Denny's and then some canyon-carving. The trouble with organising a 'cruise' is that the roads in the UK are complete horse shit. Not only are they excessively congested, but there are better surface qualities on the moon. Driving in convoy and enjoying the roads in the UK is quite a hard thing to do. Parts of Scotland and Wales, you could have decent long cruises with breakfast and lunch breaks. Anywhere else, good luck!

You're close to Jimmer though at PowerZed!...well, closer anyway. Not sure what part of Hampshire you're in.

loose gear stick and grinding noise
I wouldn't take my Z to Nissan if you paid me! ha! Most of them don't even know what a Z32 is. If I remember correctly, a few years ago, Richard Smith took his Z down to a some place where the local Nissan dealership were doing some sort of promotion there. Richard pulled up and the dealer came over and asked him what it was. Richard smiled and said 'a Nissan'! haha

Also check the rubber bellows under the gear stick. If these lift or perish, you'll hear the gearbox which sounds course without these rubber shields on. Have a look when you replace the bushings. They are a little awkward to get to sit correctly, but take your time and you'll find the noise will go. Mine lifted and I had the same problem as you. When I replaced my gear selector bushings, I refitted the rubber bellows correctly and the noise went away. You'll probably find it's more audible in 2nd and 4th as if the gear level pulls down, it'll open up the forward part of the bellows which are the part that dislodges most easily.

Only if you have a Veilside bodykit, dump valves, ill-fitting wheels and giant bi-plane spoilers on the rear deck.....I jest! I won't go down that route anymore! haha

Wheel camber problem
If you have standard suspension, it sags over time and that in turn has a direct affect on the camber, as too does fitting lower springs. Because the camber arms are non adjustable, you'll get what you've currently got. It's not a case of worn anything else, the adjustable camber arms WILL on their own, fix that excessive negative camber. I will point out though that you'll also need adjustable tension rods NOW as you'll put undue stress on the stock tension rods which, in extreme cases causes them to tear out of their seating on the lower bracket.

Hehe, I know! I have also been encouraged by another member that giving Mikey some stick was almost seen as a prerequisite. All in good cheer though and Mikey knows that. :) PS, Mike, don't get drunk and use the forums! ha! :)
