  1. I run a 96 GS300 sport on lpg, got a prins (the best) conversion cost £2k to convert in 06 but worth every penny now. I have a 3 litre lex engine giving me approx 200 local miles from around 50 litres of gas I have a 70 litre tank fitted in spare wheel well so no lost boot space. Car runs sweet as a nut no problems ever very happy and system has already more than paid for itself. A friend owns one of those big jap 4x4 isuzu or mitsubishi and did run lpg but now just runs his diesel one off new cooking oil neat into the tank that works out a lot chaper for him with no conversion costs, i believe you are supposed to pay extra tax if you use the oil that way but dont know if people actually declare that. He uses a high percentage of cooking oil in summer (warmer months) and low mix in winter as it can go solid in the tank. There are plenty of choices for you out there bio diesel etc just take a good look and decide whats best for your requirements and budget. I would have never fitted the lpg to my car unless I was planning on keeping it for a while or doing big mileage in a short period. For me it just meant that I could get a relatively cheap due to expensive running costs luxury car and run it for the same cost as a small hatchback and I wanted something different from a BMW 5 series so I opted for the mk1 gs. Each to their own though. One thing to watch out for though is that you get properly insured telling the company you have an lpg car and also if you get it written off you could end up out of pocket if that happens just after a lpg conversion. A lot of companys will want to see lpg certificate to prove its been done properly too. The advice I can give is just look into everything in detail before you go for it.
  2. Keep it as it is m8 in my opinion looks better.
  3. There seems some discussion about the numbers at the end of the day but for a more practical daily driver - fun every day! the NA seems to edge it. You pay your money and take your choice at the end of the day they both seem great cars.
  4. Yep TT or NA both great cars in different ways. I think if I was going to use the car daily I would go for a NA overall but I am looking for a weekend car so I have to decide between the two still. I will testdrive a NA when I get the chance. I need something a bit more engaging than my mk1 gs Sport which in my opinion has great looks but not the grunt. Its more of a cruiser, comfortable drive. Befor that I had a re-mapped MK4 Golf 130TDI. I would be happy with a Z that could own that in every way, not that I race about.
  5. No doubt the topic of much discussion, spring is coming and im thinking about another Z. I know the hassles involved in having a TT so am considering a NA. I cant find a thread comparing the pros and cons though -(my fault not good at using the search probabaly) Can anyone convince me to go for a NA? Whats the pickup like? I have never driven an NA and am wary it may feel slow. Not interested in big power just close to stock TT would be good so what could I do to up the NA's power?
  6. Well I thought about it and I reckon its still the Z for me. It fits me fine and in my opinion it looks a far better car plus im not a boy racer so the power that comes with a TT will be fine for me. I guess an RX7 would be a really fun car though too but quite different. They seem a bit feminine too, not to my taste really but I have heard good things about them. Thanks for the lowdown.
  7. Just my opinion, I support local UK businesses as much as I can, even though I have setup massive import businesses from SE Asia to Europe - not car related though! If we are a community then we should support each other. You should know that in time the dollar will rise then a few years down the line if there are no decent supliers left in the UK, dont moan about it, pay the premium price from abroad! I do also agree that with many reputable suppliers like the ones on this site you get a lot more than just your parts for your money, money well spent if you ask me.
  8. Hi I was just wondering having only owned a Z how the Z tt compares to an RX7, I guess a few of you guys may have owned both at some stage. The RX7 seems like a great little car from what I can make out and many people seem to have seriously tuned them up.
  9. Anyone ever imported an engine from the US? which shipping company did you use any recommendations?
  10. Anyone know of any decent comppanies in the Midlands who repair or replace tubs, how much should we be looking at to: a: refurbish standard tubs b: refurb with better spec ie ball bearing, really just looking for a better more reliable tub than stock, not raising boost too much keeping this car pretty standard engine wise it will be used most days. An idea on prices to look for and spec to go for would be good, have been stung before and dont want a repeat performance plus think its best to get both tubs refurbed while im at it.
  11. Thanks for the info I will take a look and consider my options, at that price sounds like a bargain too! Getting someone reliable to do the work in my area is always a problem though which is why I was thinking about getting the engine and box all done at the same time. Thanks,
  12. If you have an auto car but can get hold of a manual engine and box plus ecu what else would be needed to do the swap. I have no clue but im guessing there will be some other parts that I would require, brackets? It looks like an attractive option and I may have found a manual box and engine to transplant.
  13. They didnt use a brick!
  14. Hi just wanted to say thanks guys for your help. I went for the RAC option in the end who did it in 2-3 mins using one of the ways you described. I would agree that for any such questions in the future that moderators get asked to confirm members are known before being passed information on such issues. I would think that those members with nothing to hide wont mind a little checking out in the interests of the whole community. Thanks again.
  15. Thanks I am one of the good guys I will check my mail when I get back home and see what I can do. I didnt think of the AA or RAC either and I have the top cover with them so if I get really stuck I will give them a bell. Will post to let you know how I get on, thanks for your help guys.
  16. Hi I have been a registered user but with my car being off the road lately have not kept my paid subscription up, just check out my other history of posts over the last couple of years and you will see! I just need an answer to my problem, the reason why I posted shortly after my original post was to make sure nobody posted in public the answer! Help me guys!
  17. After thinking this through please don't post the answer on a public forum as we dont want chavs nicking our rides. Can someone PM me with the answer or email to ian at ianwilletts dot co dot uk I would really appreciate it
  18. I got a mk1 Lex GS300 sport and that has a switchable ecu next to shifter maybe someone on a lexus forum knows more and could offer you a point in the right direction. Im not sure if its got 2 ecu's or two maps, ight be worth a try.
  19. Hi my Z has been off the road for a little while whilst I save up to do some more work on it, anyway I came to get in it today, alarm and central locking did not work as the battery is flat, not a problem as I have used a booster to get it going the last few times as I know theres a drain on the power. So as usual I go to unlock with the key. The Key turns in the lock and I hear a click and damn the door wont open! The key just turns round about 180 deg in each direction. I only have the original titanium ignition key which only works in the ignition and the nissan door key which only ever worked in the driver side door but not the passenger side or boot. Im locked out anyone got any suggestions apart from having to call a locksmith and pay £200 which I could really do without. Im not that technical and this really is vexing me as I want to keep on keeping the Z running regularly to make sure engine does not develop any probs. Shes off the road on a sorn at the moment. I dont fancy using my brick key either as I would have to find and fit another window then and all the glass is original. Its got t,tops. thought of getting the bonnet open so I could then charge the battery and open via alarm fob but cant see how from the outside and I dont want to damage anything. GRRR its so annoying I have a lump of metal outside my house with a nissan badge on it!
  20. Got it and I am very impressed there are some great cars on there this year. Thanks! :hyper:
  21. Are there any guides on rebuilding a Z TT engine or even rebuilding tubs im considering pulling the engine and taking my time to do things myself as a bit of a hobby and learn as I go along. One of my tubs has packed in and im of the mind to just do a good DIY job over a long time and if that does not work out I can always get another engine, im in no rush. Just taking it to bits would be fun and help me understand things a lot better. I just want to see whats out there to guide me for the moment though there must be quite a few guides, I would just like to be pointed into the direction of the better ones though. I do remember there was a great guide with pics of a turbo rebuild but I cant find the link at the moment. Im more interested in the engine rebuild info for the moment too. Also as I have an auto box I will want to replace or uprate it, but know nothing about that side of things where can you source auto box parts? If a manual comes up in the next year or so I would prob go for that if it comes up at the right time.
