  1. I will give him a call. Previously all the work has been done by Phil at Blackmoor who is also renowned as a Zedder. Thanks again!
  2. Wow thanks for all the recommendations guys! Have got some funds to get it running but with the change in location its the hassle which is putting me off. First step is getting subscribed. Second step is getting it MOT'd. I'll stick some pictures up once the bumper is fixed. Who is Lee Dent? Why was the 370z such a disappointment compared to the 300?
  3. Hello all I'm back after a period of briefly lurking around reading the odd post. Im currently stuck with a dilemma about what to do with my Z. it's a Tommy Kaira Special and has been parked up for the past three years after I moved house. I have now moved to the Isle of Man and am considering whether I should get it running and sell it on (to invest in a 370z) or bring it over here with me. From this location it will be tricky to do all the bits needed (seals, repair bumper crack, fluids, tyres etc) without flying back regularly to supervise. i'm not sure how much these would go for now and I would have to factor in the cost of leaving it with a recommended mechanic to get it up to speed. Any suggestions anyone?
  4. Back from hols - thanks for all the brillinat replies! Ive got some googling to do on all of those suggestions...
  5. OOOH now that is a great reply - hadnt even thought of one! Let me know if you think of any others im checking auto trader now!
  6. Right folks Am laying up my Zed until next summer since ive now moved to penistone which sees a high proportion of snow and ice. Im going to use the wife's car and i was thinking of getting her a cheap yet groovy used car - she's upgrading from a panda so should be happy with most things. four requirements: 1) gotta be cool 2) Preferably Jap / German emginering 3) HAS to be 4wheel drive 4) max budget £3000 Any ideas? Was thinking of a circa 2001 TT coupe but they are the second most unreliable cars on the road!
  7. Another question! Im hearing some slight sqeaky noises from both front wheel swhich sound a lot like i need to replace the bearings. Would it be best to order and replace them directly or should i just replace the front axle? Anyone have an idea what would be involved in cost / effort terms for both options?
  8. Hello all! I managed to crack my front bumper and theres a chunk missing from the middle. It's an unusual one so rather than putting on a scarab ot twinz or oem id like a direct replacement which i think ill have to fabricate myself. Anyone know how hard this is to do and where i would get started? Thanks in advance!
  9. Loose battery lead - you guys are genius! Thanks for the speedy replies - i am now going to make it in time to my girlfriend's parents - thanks everyone!
  10. Just jumped in the car to drive to my girlfriends in the (extreme) cold. Turned the key, all warning lights came on then there was a "click" and now no lights come on at all and there's no turnover from the engine. The immobiliser light still seems to work - this was fitted aftermarket so I assume the battery is charged (it was full yesterday when I was driving - I've got a battery indicator gauge). Any ideas what it might be? My firstthoughtswere obviously a fuse but I'm not sure which one to replace first in which box - help!!
  11. anyone know how I can find my membership number to pass onto my insurance company?
  12. Phew!! great advice - thanks. Only problem is that the car is getting stripped at the moment so I dont think it will get delivered in time. However - looking at the pictures it loks like the kind of thing that can be fitted later without too much trouble - is that correct?
  13. Cheers - ill get onto them!
  14. Just ordered chrome pins and a brake caliper refurb kit from Biggred. Wheres the best place to get a brake master cylinder brace?
  15. Thanks - thats a good post Dan - thivk ive still got some porterfield pads lying around that i bought off you.
  16. Hello all! So I have dropped my Zed off for the annual service / MOT and am ordering new tires all round. Since i have just insured my lovely partner on the machine (for those nights when I need to be ferried home drunk) I want to fit good performance tyres on so she doesn't kill us both. In particular, rain performance would be high on my list as the councils around where she lives seem to enjoy leaving lots of standing water around. If I could do that without banrupting myself it would be spiffing. So - any suggestions lads?
  17. Manchester (Zedchester!)
  18. not sure about how to check the efficiency of the alternator - any techies have the answer?
  19. ha ha yesiree! EDIT: Manchester is DEFINITELY the home of great Zeds - should be called Zedchester! Since working my way up the Zed ladder I thought i'd end up sticking with the Tommy Kaira - especially as its in such great condition. However now ive had it for a few years i would be tempted to sell it and spend the money on a turbo slicktop which i could transform into a track-eating beast!! Always loved the thought of having a car sitting on my driveways with decals, racing harnesses etc!!! The addiction just gets worse!
  20. Thanks Gary re: TK link! This is the third Zed I've owned - remember absolutely loving them as a kid - whenever I doodled sports cars it was always the side profile of a Zed. Just loved that pointy look - was a big fan of the MR2 (which had nowhere near the same presence) and the Triumph TR7 (I know). Then I kind of forgot about them when I bought my first 206 then a 3 series Beamer then a Mk II golf. One day a black Zed bloated past me on the motorway and I was suddenly hooked again! I started looking around for a good example without having much of a clue what's was doing. Found one in London - slick top dark blue - took the train down to see the guy who had two for sale. He picked me up from the train station, while I was waiting outside it I heard the car before I saw it - when it came round the corner I honestly just fell in love with it - which was a shame as I paid way over the odds and the turbos gave up a few months later - but I was hooked. Second Zed was a gorgeous Sllver SWB with silver double-three spoke silver Advan alloys. By then I knew a lot more about Zeds and had this one imported after playing with every conceivable combination on Gran Tourismo - checking how it looked from various angles (sad I know). I upgraded loads of different bits on it and loved the damn thing so much I'd deliberately park it miles from anyone else just in case someone accidentally dinged or scratched it - sadly whilst I was sleeping one night some ******* crashed into it and drove off in the early hours - the buckled chassis and rear corner damage was too much to fix so I had to get rid of it. Given the money I had sunk in it my parents were shocked to find that even as I was happily driving that around I had invested in ANOTHER zed - the one I have to this day. Short wheelbase, special body kit, updated engine, exhaust, dials, wheel, fantastic service history from a genuine enthusiast. They couldn't understand why I got it but I couldn't pass up a Tommy Kaira Special Edition. You can always tell when you love a car when you have to have one last look at it when you park it up!! Just love everything about these cars and I would always envisage myself owning one if I could afford it. Also I love the Zed community and the way other Zedders wave when passing (not the 350 crowd). It takes a certain kind of unhinged madness to continue running one of these and there's no better sight on the road!
  21. Was just musing about how many 300ZX owners you see around these days. For me there has been a definite drop over the past five years or so – and even on here there have been a few of the most Z-crazy posters selling up. I can't envision not owning a Zed for at least the next 5 years. Part of the reason its practical to keep it is that I live about 3 miles from a Z-specialist and I find the advice and sourcing of parts through here fantastic. Added to that my insurance was £380 for a kickass-fun car. But what about you? At what point is it no longer worth the bother? Do you think you'll grow more attached to your Z as they become even rarer or will you go for an alternative and if so, which one?
  22. Hey guys i want my OEM stick to be refurbished in black with red stitching - anyone know anywhere in the Manchester area that might be able to do this or should I just order a 99 spec stick and gaiters?
  23. I've lost touch a bit with the in-car entertainment options available nowadays. I want to fit a new standard DIN sized head unit – and ideally I want to match the Tommy Kaira dials I've got which are a kind of BMWish red. In an ideal world I would like the digital display to match the airtemp blue lighting and have the switches with red illumination. If the gods were REALLY kind they might also include some sort of a SatNav though this is less important since ive got maps on iphone. Ive found a couple of Clarion and Kenwood units that are so-so but nothing that really ticks the boxes. Anyone have any ideas where I might look?
  24. The guy at the store and AA guy explained that a higher rating is better and will provide more oomph to get the engine started – I definitely have noticed a difference using the Bosch one compared to when I inserted my previous battery new. What he said though is that if the amperage is TOO high the alternator can sometimes have a problem charging it and for that reason recommended not to go too far over 700. I'm sure many on here will have stronger batteries than that if they have powerful in car audio setups etc. So they would be able to tell you how true that is. The battery i've got is perfect for me – especially with winter coming – and the difference in price was 12 pounds with the recommended battery. Only proviso is that the AA guy said since the uprated battery was being used in a car that it wasn't recommended for that they couldnt provide a guarantee with it if I bought it direct from them (which is why I bought it from a motorspares shop who didnt seem to care). EDIT - the preferred rating is given in a manual that most breakdown guys / car spares shops carry - think they said the recommended battery type was a 3030 and rated at about 500amps but don't quote me.
