if you could make one change to a 300ZX
So as we are all here , and own at least one 300ZX , its fair to assume we appreciate the effort put in by the designers of the car. But lets imagine you were sitting over the designers shoulder as the final draft was just done. He asked you what is the one thing you would change about the car from a design standpoint. Be it bodystyling , performance , ease of maintenance etc. Pick one thing you would change about the car. For me , it occurred to me last night. I usually have the car parked in the garage where its out of sight for 6 days a week , but last night i had it parked it outside the house on the driveway. As i was outside for a quiet cigarette i ended up eyeing the car over and it struck me that whilst the front arches are nice and pronounced , the rears are rather tame. I think the rear axle could have been extended by a couple of inches and the arches made more ....sexy ! Its something they definitely addressed with the 350Z , as it has big muscular arches over both axles. So whats the one thing you would have changed ??

Aircon
Funnily enough i had to do a survey on all the machines in our work place, and most of them run R404a , and when i looked under the bonnet of the zed i saw a sticker in Japanese telling me to use R404a :) . Next time we have the refrigeration guy in, ill have to get him to fill mine

Interference
You really need to get that sorted out. The TV going funny could be an early warning system for her to clear out her other fancy man before you come home. Probably a bad earth , I knew a lad on one of the drift forums who was hated in his street as when he turned on his skyline the whole streets TV would go bonkers.

Fuel pump advice
Resurrect time . I have a similar problem , noticed it this morning. Start car up and for first 30 seconds, there is the buzzing from the pump. After a while it goes away, then if I press the gas even slightly, it starts again until I let the gas go. How much is jeff charging for his replacement items ? Cheers Ed

Thanks man Well for the 3 months i paid €422 which equates to about €1400 a year , to drive an 18 year old car around on shit roads in masses of traffic getting stupid MPG. I must be cracked , but its worth it. I was delivering the car to get a good valet clean done on it yesterday after work and as i was stuck in among the 9-5 commuters trying to get home after a day at the ratrace, one car stood out from the hum drum bogger spec diesels that make up 95% of the road population over here and it was mine. I was a shining beacon of originality in a sea of sensibility.

Recaro question
Those recaros from the Accord Type R are one of the most comfortable seats known to man. Unlike the ones from the Integra Type R which are only meant for skinny hipped little asians. Best of luck fitting them

whats the story behind your username?
Well about 10 years ago when i started to use motoring forums , i needed a username, i had a Silver Honda civic 1.4i with a stunning 90bhp on tap, but at the time it was as fast a bullet to me , so i came up with Silverbullitt as i liked the movie Bullitt. Got really drunk on my 28th birthday and got it tattooed on my leg, so i'm guessing i'm stuck with it

Bought a toy Nissan
Always had a soft spot for clean standard GTi-R's , i think the Max Power days have taken a lot of them off the road as lads went mental trying to eke out more power and ended up blowing engines and gearboxes. A nice looking one on sensible JDM rims gives me a serious dose of the horn A bit like this

Few questions
So i've owned the Zed since August last year, and one the first of march i taxed her for 3 months to the tune of €422... Ouch . Since paying that sort of wedge for the privilege of driving on our nations roads, I've been racking up miles on her since then and have myself a little Job list 1. Gearbox oil ,i have a suction pump and oil bought for this. Just gotta get to my buddies pit and get it done. 2. Engine oil ,I am at a loss at what is best to use. For some reason when i search on here for best oil , it throws up a blank. Whys that? Is it a touchy subject with too many variables/opinions. Anyway if someone could recommend a brand and a grade , fully synth or semi synth it would be great. 3. This is a weird one. Theres nothing wrong ( i hope) but its puzzling me. When i jump in the car and start her up, when i roll forward a few feet, it seems that when i get to a certain mph , i can hear a motor doing something for a split second behind me in the boot or somewhere close to there. Can anyone shed some light on this , Is it a motor solenoid moving a bolt to lock the boot door , or something else Thanks in advance Ed

Manufacture Date On Door Mirrors
Aha Thanks man

Manufacture Date On Door Mirrors
That has me rightly confused so , i was always under the impression that my Z was a SWB , but it turns out that its a LWB. Now when i have my seat in the driving position, you wouldn't fit a midget in the back seat. What the hell are the SWB ones like. Do they even have a rear seat ? Is there a pic of a SWB and a LWB side by side to compare ??

Hi Gary. It'd be no bother to drive to Belfast to get the work done , The M1 toll would be cheaper than the cost of a ferry anyway. But is the standard of work good, and what are the prices like? Shoot me a mail if you like I presume if you are membership secretary you will have access to my mail address. Thanks Ed

T-top covers
It would be nice if i had them.. Something tells me they were pinched on the boat over, like the gear knob

T-top covers
Now that winter is over and its getting close to the time when i will tax the Zed for the first time (€422 for 3 months ouch), i was thinking of storage solutions for the Glass in the T-Top when we eventually do get a sunny day. I was half thinking of buying some sheets of Neoprene rubber and getting a friend who is someway handy with a sewing machine to make me some , but that sounded like a lot of hard work. So a quick ebay search threw these up , and for €100 landed to my door i think its reasonable enough value and they dont look half bad. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-300ZX-Syn-Leather-T-Top-Covers-Z-logo-Interior-/170938075769?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27ccb40a79&vxp=mtr Though others may be interested as well

Only plans are for some preventative maintenance , possibly a decat after its next NCT Just ordered some fresh gearbox oil from Opie, bought an OEM gearknob and set of crystal repeaters from Zedworld, and i'm trying to find someone who's handy enough with 300's in Ireland to tackle changing all the belts, otherwise i'll be boarding a ferry to the UK. Any ideas on anyone in Ireland?? north or south , doesn't matter ,excuse for a roadtrip!!!

Hi , the names Ed , and heres the story of how i came into ownership of a Z32. A couple of years ago I got sick of running “interesting” (to me at least) cars as daily drivers so I invested in a jeep, a trailer, and a track only 180SX and decided to have a go at this drifting malarkey. In the ensuing 2 years or so, I only managed to get the car on track about 7-8 times. Whilst the few days I had her on track were an absolute blast and I have memories I will take to my grave, such as getting on the handbrake at 80mph just past the bridge in Mondello to attempt a switch entry into Honda (scary as hell), the remaining 361 days of the year were spent in abject misery as I looked at the car cooped up in the garage, and felt my soul die a little every time I turned on the Santa Fe and waited for the heater plug light to go off. I longed for the chance to drive something interesting again, and weekends were spent playing Forza whilst beering on and doing man maths to see how I could put some fine Japanese metal outside the front door. The following morning I would awake and say “todays the day the 180 goes on Donedeal, but I never did as I secretly longed for the next track outing when I could try and push myself and the car a bit harder than the last time. Then I saw this car go up on for sale on a local motoring website, and I knew I had to have it. I contacted the owner and tried to pull off a cheeky straight swap, but I was denied. I put it out of my mind for a while but one day I spotted it again on Donedeal. With renewed vigor, I put the 180 on DriftIreland and it was gone in a couple of hours. With an ar.se pocket full of fifties, I contacted the seller, and took it for a spin and bought it a few days later. So she’s a 300ZX, Non turbo, but she’s still packing a 3 litre quad cam, 24 valve V6 sending about 222hp to the rear wheels, and beautiful noises through the quad pipes out back and I love it. Sure there are more capable cars out there, that are faster, with better handling and maybe some that look better, but if everyone used their head and bought the widely regarded best car in a given class, then we would have no variety, and every car meet would be a sea of the same model. Plus I love the underdog , when everyone was buying Integra Type R’s I got a ST202 Celica, when the masses bought Civic Type R’s I bought a Levin , when they all rushed to buy Imprezas, I bought a B4 Legacy. I haven’t done much driving in it so far , as she’s out of tax and will remain so until the winter has passed. But what I have learned from the few hundred kilometers I’ve put up is that it's heavy, its comfy , it can pick up pace relatively effortlessly with a nice bit of midrange grunt, she sounds best at about 20mph in first gear, T-Tops are awesome and because there so few examples in this country most people go “ WTF” when they see it. Here are a few pictures the girlfriend took.
