  1. When I got my j spec none of the pumps worked so I took em to bits, they were stuck so I cranked em round with me finger ,put em back on ,still working 10 months later.
  2. Cats not required for test if its pre late 92,still got my old ones if ya want em,personally I would de cat if its 92 or earlier.
  3. Hi stu . My maf went wrong a few weeks ago,the reading on the conzult showed it was only giving 0.08v untill I taped it lightly then it was fine for a while then go wrong again. I read a post by mac1 ,he resoldered all accesible joints inside and fixed it so I thought nothing to loose and gave it a go,hey presto its working fine 1000 miles later. What I would add to mac1s post is that when I opened it up there is a copper shield inside which was bent in so I straghtened it insulated the board inside and rebuilt it It seemed to me that the shield had been touching some of the pins on the board as three of them are quite long so I snipped them off while I was in there. It worked perfectly for me and saved a lot of hard earned,has to be worth a try.

  5. Draining the oil is pointless and as for draining the cooling system,I have taken perfectly good rads off jap bikes and in 6 months there dead antifreeze helps stop corrosion. As for the braking system if you have air in there you have moisture= corrosion. Also I was told by a aircon man to run the pump at least once a week, but I didnt now my a/c pump has stuck solid.

  7. I believe the z center ones are better,and its not a job you want to have to keep doing either,no fun at all,getting use of a pit or four poster ramp is highly recomended.

Thanks for the reply Royal ,it defo is the afm I,ve cleaned the connectors even took the metal bits out and soldered them to the wires put the connector back together but still it only works for ten minutes then only gives 0.08v unless I give it a light tap then it will work for another ten and so on , How much can I expect to pay for a second hand one?

Yeh I bought a set off ebay and very nice they looked too,BUT after a few weeks the flanges on the turbo ends warped and started leaking so I took them off flatted the faces and refitted them using paste ,not a fun job at all, they were ok for a few months but are starting to leak again ,it seems the flanges are to thin and warp in time. I think if I was buying now I would get something a bit better.
  10. HI All. Having found that a running problem was being caused by the afm not working for more than ten minutes is there any thing I can do to repair it or does anyone have a second hand one for sale at a fair price. Any help would be much appreciated.

  13. thanks for that greg I think I,ll just buy a temp sens ,ptu and a maf and change them one at a time till its sorted .I spose i,ll need whats left at some point.

I have a similar problem but mine cuts out then starts again and runs fine til the next time its cold then same again,a few places to look as you may allready know are, tps connector /temp sens con/ maf con/ptu con/ I would go for tps and temp sens connectors first. Do you have any fault codes?
  15. Hi greg The base idle is about 750 when hot ,the strange thing is the car runs fine when hot but cuts out only when warming up.
  16. Hi All. I have a bit of a problem with the engine cutting out when its warming up it starts fine ,runs fine,until it it gets close to normal operating temp then it cuts out ,if I leave it for 1 or 2 mins it will start up fine and run well till the next time it gets cold then we start all over again. I have run conzult and it gave 2 faults , temp sens and maf so I cleaned the connectors and removed the apexi filter in case water in the maf could be causing the problem and refitted the oem airbox and filters. Now I am getting no fault codes and acording to conzult they are both working fine. But on the way to and from work today it did the same again. Ran conzult tonight alls fine no codes but the problem remains. Anyone got any ideas where to look next ?
  17. My j spec had the badges removed when it landed ,shame really, but I have seen some aftermarket ones on ebay,supposed to the same as oem ones.
  18. Hi yas . The alt belt on mine makes this sound when the battery has been drained regardles of how tight the belt is.
  19. Srrae Its very difficult to tell where its coming from, seems to be rear center and louder on top than below,its the way it only taps as I back off that makes me think small end. I had a stretched rod ,or oval small end I should say on my vmax and the symptoms were the same,when I stripped it I could hardly tell it had gone but the tap was scary.
  20. Thanks for that eric,but no it has very good oil pressure and it has not lost any at all . the oil has just been changed to millers and is at the top of the mark on the dipstick. I,ll go and try the coilpack test and see what that says. Did you mean the small ends with engine out and big ends through the sump ?
  21. Never heard of a z stretching a rod, now that sounds encouraging,it isnt a big end kind of tap though and its only when Its on the balance between accelerate and decelerate, no other time.

Ok, thanks for that mate,I just went for another listen and if I slowly build the revs to 2000rpm and slowly back off a bit it taps , otherwise nothing so if it was a follower would it tap all the time or just under these circumstances like a small end does? Also is there anyone in the north wales area who would know the difference?
  23. Hi All. Oh shit, I gave her a good thrashing today and now I seem to have a tapping coming from the engine mainly on the overrun when i back of the gas sounds horribly like a stretched rod. what I am wondering is are zx,s prone to this and can I get the pistons out the bottom of the engine with the crank out or do I need to take the heads off? Any advice would be appreciated as I havent had it very long and havent stripped one of these before.

A kid in a black peugeot cut in front of me in traffic the other day laughing his little tits off till the traffic cleared, I must say though it was quick to 130, then him and the rest of the world went backwards at a hell of a rate.oh joy. I also had a similar experence with a scooby, I thought those things were fast.
