Thanks Baz, I will be gutted to sell her but I have to use my head not my heart - and if I get a good price for it then a) I'll have a knockabout car to get me from a to b and b) have a chunk of money to put aside to get the car I really REALLY want. I drove Lil Ste's TT at the weekend and it blew me away, so for me, its a no brainer really, its just my zed is soooooo mint!! J

Thanks again for all the advice and support earlier in the week. Since then I have given it some thought, and after long discussions with Marc, I've decided I am going to sell my zed. Well, hypothetically speaking anyway! I have a figure in my head of what I would like for the car, and if I can get this figure, then the plan is to get myself a crappy micra or starlet but something decent enough to get me through uni and my placements and then put the balance aside to start looking for another zed - but this time a TT. As much as I LOVE my zed, and I really do, I have just got back from a drive out and she is just beaut, I know that I need to use my head and not my heart, be sensible about this and get myself a practical car and a project zed. So, watch this space....... J x

Lol, thanks - still not entirely sure what to do - so am not going to do anything for the interim and give it some thought. Its very tempting to sell my Zed, get a runabout and keep back a chunk of money to invest in a zed at a later date or wait for one to come up on here. But like you said, my daughter is my priority and I will not see her miss out in visiting friends, family, having days out etc because of my selfishness in wanting to keep a car I can't afford to run (not to mention the practical issues!) Second job definitely not an option, I don't have any family locally and I struggle with childcare and I would not want to spend any less time with my daughter than I already do. As for mileage claims, at the moment I walk to work as I live fairly locally (and its free exercise!) but when I start my nurse training any travel costs are incorporated into the bursary and this is made very clear at interview, that you are expected to get yourself to all your placements and pay for this from the bursary. So at the moment I still don't know. I LOVE my Zed, it is without a doubt the most gorgeous, head turning, stunning car. I don't care that she's 18yrs old and doesn't have a turbo, to be honest, she is still fast and I get a huge thrill from driving her. Like I said before, my car is my hobby, I enjoy so many aspects of owning it. I would hate to not attend meets, go for drives out (even if I do only take her out once or twice a week max) and generally lose my obsession!! I don't get much of a social life, so the zed pretty much is what I do when I'm not working or looking after Tasha. Sigh. Just need to make a big decision. Wish I could just magic £500 out the air to get myself a cheap runabout then I don't have to rely on anyone for anything then! No the meagre bursary is supposed to cover the costs. Having said that, the meagre bursary is still going to leave me slightly better off than my pathetic part time medical secretary's salary!

Just could not afford it as a daily driver when I start my nursing, will be posted all over the region so could be doing a 60 or 80 mile commute for placements, on a nursing bursary. Maybe it was just over ambitious of me to think I could afford to keep the Zed as my hobby whilst running a crappy micra or starlet as a daily driver whilst training. Hate the thought of not having a hobby car, cars are my passion. But its hard to justify making my daughter miss out on stuff because I can't take her places, or expect mates to ferry us about when I've got a car I can't afford to run in the garage. My dad put his hobbies over the welfare of his family when we were growing up so we never once had a family holiday or indeed did anything together as a family such was his passion for reptiles and amphibians - and that was an expensive hobby too. Just feel torn. If I could make some profit on the zed, buy a daily driver AND then get a cheaper zed as a project/hobby that would make perfect sense. Its just that my yellow zed - well, she's just so drop dead gorgeous and apart from getting the headlights issue sorted, I can't fault her. Sure, I got a 1000 plans for her but not entirely sure I have my priorities right here....

Thanks all - maybe I just won't SORN it over winter and I'll have to use it as my family car - but its a 2 seater so we can't actually go anywhere AS a family and its hardly the car I'd choose to put my 4 yr old daughter in. Just don't know what to do really. I already walk/cycle/bus to work but no family car is very limiting with a young child - and I HATE the feeling of being trapped and unable to just go out for the day without taking buses, trains and lots of forward planning. In all the yrs I've ben driving I've always had access to a car....ugh! Moderators feel free to delete this if people think this is a for sale post.

If I had £300 for a runabout I would get one - but I pay for everything myself, rent, bills, i have very little disposable income. I don't drink, smoke, go out - my car is my hobby, I live and breathe it - but I just cannot justify having £2k of car sat in my garage over winter, unable to tax or run it yet not have a family car for me and my girl. Marc's selling his Celica coz it means we have 2 big cars to run, tax, insure etc - plan is that he will get a Starlet or Micra as a small cheap family car but he's decided to leave that til he needs one for Uni end of Jan so i can't see how I've got a choice. Absolutely gutted, love my car but I won't be able to do stuff like get my daugther to school holiday club without myown transport - and I can't afford not to work! Got a very trembly bottom lip here :(

Marc's selling his Celica and not planning on getting another car til he needs one when he starts uni in January which means my only access to a car is my Zed. I planned to SORN it when the tax runs out end of October as I wouldn't want to drive it in the bad weather plus in all honesty it is just a toy car, I could never afford to run it as a daily driver. As it is I walk to work most days as I'm skint lol. Anyway, I will still need a car, because of work/childcare issues - not to mention that without a car I am severely limited to what I can do and where I can go with my daughter. So it looks like my only option is going to be to sell my Zed, before October so its still got road tax. Will get my headlights issue resolved after pay day and then I think I am going to have to sell my gorgeous gorgeous yello zed :thumbdown::thumbdown::thumbdown::thumbdown::thumbdown::thumbdown:

OMG!!!! wow, thats very naked!!!! I let my boyfriend and bloke mates help with fixing the car, I always offer to help make theirs shiny though!! I would love to have time to learn how to fix my car myself but not enough hours in the day working full time, with a 4yr old and going back to uni next yr! J

time to employ someone to do that!! I don't own a voltmeter, wouldn't know where to start! I make it shiny and drive it fast, that's where my relationship with my zed ends lol. Got the numer of a sparky from ym mechanic so I'll give him a shout (after pay day) J

My effing headlights STILL won't work!!!! New bulbs - nada. Can here the relay clickin on and off but no light. Lil Stevie v kindly took apart my light stalk on Sat night and gave it a good clean out, not that there was any signs of arcing or indeed any malfunction. So I'm still unable to drive at night. Big fat GRRRRRR!
