Octane booster is available from most car parts places - about a fiver and you can get a couple of octane on a full tank, more on half a tank. Add this to Optimax and you get a noticeable difference in performance (not huge just noticeable). Running higher octane fuel is good way to protect from detonation and should do your engine no harm. If you have access to AVGAS then do use it, it does boost octane but costs a fortune. Drivin Ivan
  2. will my car go faster if I have really shiny bits on it too?
  3. I am aware that you have some strange notins about right and wrong - I dont. done most of the sexual ones (if you don't try it how will you know if you like it) - it was my cousin. Done all the drug ones. Don't drink regularly (anymore) due to ulcer (pints of Vodka anyone). Was taught it all by my father who is now well and truly dead. I think of it as living life to the full. Drivin Ivan
  4. A rather modest 260 - I'll try anything once and most things twice and some things at least twice a day. I have a 1st class ticket for the train to hell. Drivin Ivan
  5. Remember watching it happen - the guy had behaving like that all day and it was his own fault - One of those days when you wander back to your own car and think what am I doing with a scooby........ Drivin Ivan (now totally scooby free)
  6. It was good to see so many Z cars out and about - it looked pretty awesome with that many going up the road together, keeping that skyline from getting too far ahead. Datalogging on the laptop read 134 KPH (what speed converter :p ?) and still it was pulling away quite quickly..... need more power. Good meet, look forward to another in March. Drivin Ivan
  7. Errr the rear Diff needs to go somewhere I always thought that under the shelf was the best place given that it sits between the rear wheels..........Sarcasm this early ........ :nono: ABS lives under there too (behind drivers seat). There is a petrol tank somewhere back there too... Ivan (some help, but mot much)
  8. Welcome to the best 300zx forum. Yes it is possible to get good quality rotors (we call them Discs), just have a look in the traders section to get a good range of options. Speak to the traders, they are almost human, and will be able to give you a range of options. Drivin Ivan
  9. Compression test is effectively a test of how well the cylinders are sealed. If there is low compression then that cylinder is not forming a good seal for the explosion to take place, thus you loose power cause some of the energy escapes. Depending on where the energy is escaping from the problem can be big or small. It is natural to get some variation from one cylinder to another - that is why you need to know the figures. Energy is escaping either into the bottom end past the piston rings or into the top end past the valves. Hope this helps Oh by the way what is the stock compression ratio please? (minor hijack :nono: ). Drivin Ivan
  10. According to the website, the Nissan DataScan software will not work with the conZult cable. The cable is good for the Ztalk software and PDA devices - I have not tried it yet (no PDA). Drivin Ivan
  11. Was sent on the 14th and arrived on the 23rd (8days). The cable is long enough to feed under the dash and around to the passenger seat, but it is white and I have not left it plumbed in (not ripping the dash out to fit in the glove box yet). Drivin Ivan
  12. Not post whoring but I did say that I would have a crack at plugging it into a UK car for Jason (the guy in NZ). So if anyone is bringing a UK car on Sunday and is willing ............. Drivin Ivan
  13. I Will bring it to the SW meet on Sunday so that it can speak for itself. Nothing to do with showing off a new toy at all (where is that whistling, hands in pockets smiley?). Providing that everyone is going to make it to the right time and place......... :slap: Drivin Ivan
  14. sorry guys the cable came on Wednesday, I went and plugged in immediately and it all worked as described on the website. You have a screen of dials that can be preselected to show all the sensors (rev's throttle position, speed, injector duty cycle, water temp, etc, etc.) and at the bottom of the screen are a bunch of registers (e.g. power steering pump soleniod) that have on/off states. All this is configurable in the preferences. I was also able to view and reset my error codes - I had a det sensor error due to a loose connection that had been keeping the car in safety boost. I was able to reset this and the car now runs much much much much better (95% duty cycle on the injectors tells it's own story). Data logging is available for runs as are speed tests (e.g. 0-60 times). I took it out for a run down the carriageway with a friend who has more technical understanding than me. He sat with teh laptop in his hands and was able to see exactly what the car (and me) was doing - he aslo nearly left a stain on my seat he was that excited about the tuning possibilities. All in all I would give this a really big thumbs up. ;) :smash: ConZult it is not! but for those of us who want to see what the car is doing (espicially on the track or a night out playing) then I can see that it will be ideal for the money. 15. I know it's a bit far but I have always had good service from Pro Tyre in Bristol (good prices and advice). 27, Church Rd, Lawrence Hill, Bristol, Avon BS5 9JJ Tel: 0117 954 0123 Drivin Ivan
  16. Mike Design wise, can I suggest a competition to design the "new look" for the site. That way you will get a good idea of what members want to see. Those who don't feel confident enough with their art / design skills will be more tempted to contribute (no pressure) to a comp. A final decision can made by the members (voting) when a short llist has been drawn up. No prize required as the winner will see their work whenever they log on. Just a thought Drivin Ivan
  17. The guys on this forum seem to be technically minded when it comes to the software. Might be worth a look through to see if you can find a contact. http://forum.ztechz.net/ Drivin Ivan
  18. Most important of all get out there and drive the thing - they really kick ass! Drivin Ivan
  19. On the day I bought mine the $ was very weak and I ended up paying £48. The Guy in NZ was really communicative and helpful. I said I would let him know how I got on and if there would be any interest from anyone on here when I have had a look. Obviously if it's good I will say (likewise if I have problems) - I will let you know if I can get a group buy discount. Cable should come next week. Drivin Ivan

Check the booking form thread for address. Drivin Ivan
  21. I have ordered a cable and software from the guy in NZ. He emailed the software and the cable is in the post. I have installed it on my laptop but without anything to connect to I can't really offer any more info yet. I will let you know how I get on with it, but given the price I thought it was worth a look before investing in ConZult. Drivin Ivan
  22. If any of you need any help or advice on driving Castle Coombe then please ask - as it does have one of the top ten crash sites in the country - Quarry corner. I have been driving the track for the last few years and have even crashed at Quarry corner - braking from 115mph in the wet!! :headvswal Just trying to save someone from the same fate. Drivin Ivan
  23. I'd rather get done by a person than a camera any day of the week. And Goit has shown one reason why - he drove more carefully for the rest of his journey. Drivin Ivan
  24. They are all OK, but I find the Sparco Pro 2000 racing seat I bought for the Scooby (but didn't get to fit before it was nicked) and the projector running through a couple of hundred Watts of stereo makes for a much more full-on experience.     Drivin Ivan
