Advice on a vehicle for sale...
Mine has twin 5" HKS pipes on it and they are nice and quiet until you boot it on a A road then the noise is beautiful, the sound of a powerful car, not a souped up Nova that's all exhaust and 1.1 engine

F.A.O HANKSY or anyone else in the Essex area
Maldon's only about 15 miles from me that's brilliant cheers. Well, I'm sure it's nothing but I don't know how to fix it, The only real problems are 1. Whining from the gearbox in 1st and 2nd. 2. Vibrations from the rear (getting worse every day) 3. Engine tapping noise, and now it sounds like a Subaru, rather than a nice smooth sound before under acceleration. The other things I can do myself I think, but these three things are getting worse and I'm worried it's gonna blow up on me the next time I put my foot down... erk

F.A.O HANKSY or anyone else in the Essex area
I know you're having problems with your Zed mate, and was wondering if you can recommend a good garage to take mine too. That goes for anyone else in the area as well :) Someone you trust that knows their way around a Zed because I sure as hell don't :( I've tried the things suggested in my help/advice thread but to no avail. I'd like to get it checked over by a pro, and fix the problems before they get any worse :( Thanks in advance, Jon.

Really Worried
That's great help Andy, in respect of point no.3 can you direct me to where these are found? In regards to point no.2 it's definately a gentle "ticking" sound. Any ideas on how to get this diagnosed and fixed?

Vote for the Zed on Men and Motors
Done :)

Really Worried
Yeah the wheels were balanced, not been tracked though as far as I know... It doesn't veer off to one side really when you let go of the wheel unless you're on a camber of course. I might have to get the tracking done though definately.

Really Worried
Thankyou so much for the help, I will check those boots on under the centre console ASAP. :) The noise is definately a gentle ticking rather than a knocking sound... very regular and quickens with higher revs. I have noticed the car has lost power since all this, and I'm sure a boost leak would do this am I right? I mean in 1st the rear wheels used to break traction quite easily on full power, now they do not even with the pedal fully down. (It lost traction with the new tyres as well). Just seems not as powerful as before this ticking sound and whining noise. I hope thats a better description Andy. Any help to you?

Thanks for the quick reply Greg, mine is a Manual. The mileage is 53,000... Which grade oil do you recommend?

Really Worried
Hi all, I really hope you help me out. I've already had my first expense - 4 new tyres. I now have things starting to go wrong already I think, and was wondering if you could shed some light on what the problem(s) might be. I'll do my best to answer any questions you have to find out what the problem(s) are. 1. There is an awful whining noise coming from the gearbox I think in 1st and second. Any gear after that is fine, no noise. It's getting progressively worse. 2. The engine is starting to sound like those old Ford engines, the ones that go "tap-tap-tap-tap". It sounds like it's coming from inside the block itself. 3. I have a new whiney noise, I think it's coming from the turbos but I can't be sure. It's hard to tell over the noise from the gearbox... 4. Vibrations. When I first got the car it was really smooth, now I'm getting vibrations through the steering wheel... I thought the tyres would fix this but it seems not... If anyone could come and take a look or if anyone knows what these things could be so I have some idea of how bad it is then please let me know... I've been careful starting it and not booting it from cold etc. I've checked the oil it seems okay. But I don't really know what I'm doing and feel a bit lost. And upset that my precious new car is on the verge of blowing up :( Any questions you have I will answer to help you find out what's wrong

Tyres
One thing I have done is go up to a "W" rating. The Yoko's I have on are "V" rated which only goes up to 140mph. No good for track days :nono:

Things I've noticed in 2 days of ownership
lol I'm not gonna go racing bikes just yet... So where are all these Zed owners in Southend then, anyone going down with their zeds any saturday night soon? I think a row of 5+ Zeds parked on the seafront would look rather tasty to say the least :D

Tyres
Thanks anyway, there's something about the standard alloys I like, so I'm gonna stick with them. Found a price for 4 Bridgestones at £371 Fitted and balanced so well chuffed with that. Getting them fitted tommorow morning so I'll be having fun with my Yokohamas tonight :hyper:

Tyres
Hi all, anyone know the correct tyre sizes and offset etc. for 17" alloys front and rear? Thanks.
-
Just finished another blast in the Zed
Does the fun never stop? :hyper: Ok so I have a couple of questions for you guys after another 100 Miles or so tonight. 1. What brake upgrade in your opinion is best for the car? I would feel a lot better if I had some beter brakes to slow me down ;) 2. Where do you guys buy your tyres from for the standard alloys? :x: 3. How do you stop that goddamn squeaking sound coming from the back  4. My local Motormania is doing a great deal on a set of 17" Alloys with tyres. What size range is it best to keep. What I mean is I know the rears are wider than the fronts as standard, if these 17" wheels are the same diameter all round will that cause any problems for me? 5. We couldn't resist taking a couple of videos doing some doughnuts tonight, but I was a bit worried as we ended laying some serious tyre circles in a certain popular fast food chain's carpark. Can they get you for criminal damage if I was reported? We got out of there pretty sharpish after seeing the marks we'd made, and now I'm packing it expecting a call from the police any time soon :x: But the cheers were worth it I reckon hehehe Now I've got it all out of my system I'll calm down now, I don't want to push my luck after all. But the Zed really brings out the Wild Side in you even when you're not going out to do anything like that in particular. The adrenaline builds up and before you know it you've got a big crowd of people round your car admiring it and asking you questions etc. I've had so much fun in this car I haven't even put a stereo in it yet!

Warming up
Ok, that's what I've been doing so that's ok. I have a Turbo Timer which is switchable between 1 and 3 minutes, so got that covered. It's funny to watch people's expressions when you lock the car up and the engine's still running lol

Warming up
Simple question, how long should I drive carefully until I can play? 1 or two minutes or longer? I want to look after her as much as I can, so thought I'd ask how long you guys leave it until you mash the fun pedal :p

Its all worthwhile when....
My brother ans sister love it, I've arranged to pick them up from school in it on Friday. Their mates thought my Astra GTE 16V was a bit special, wait till they see this

Well, I'll be out and about from 8pm onwards till 1am ish. So if anyone fancies an impromptu meet then give me a ring on 07830 345832 and we'll meet up in Freeport :hyper: Go on you know you want to :D

Things I've noticed in 2 days of ownership
Well that's probably about £50 each way I reckon... I'm game! lol not. I need to find some other Zed owners around here, wasn't someone from from Southend around here?

Things I've noticed in 2 days of ownership
How far away are you? ;)
-
Ok Which
Funny you should post this as I spoke to Luke from Zedworld at some length about this very kit, he said he can get hold of everything, but the front bumper will take about 6 weeks. Gave me a very good price on fitting and painting as well by the way.

Things I've noticed in 2 days of ownership
I noticed that 2nd in mine doesn't pull anywhere near as much as any other gear. Does anyone else find that in theirs? I agree with you in 3rd though, it truely is amazing

Things I've noticed in 2 days of ownership
Z'steria, yeah I like that lol It's had a twin 5" exhaust put on it, a turbo Timer (Very handy except at petrol stations) apart from that I'm not really sure, I suppose I'll know a bit more about it when I come to the next Zed meet. When is the next one by the way? Would love to come along and meet some other Zed owners, you guys might be able to tell me if I'm running stock boost or not... :D Anyone fancy a run out tonight in the Braintree/Colchester/Chelmsford Area? I'm off out again tonight :hyper: I tell you what getting a good 0-60 time is bloody hard, best I've had is 5.6 on the 3rd attempt, but I'm still spinning the wheels in 1st too much. I need to find a good road and measure a 1/4 mile. See what it can do. By far the most impressive so far is it's overtaking ability in 4th 5th, any gear really. It just flies
