Checking auto gear oil
Errol, Just to clarify, the turbos in our cars work simultaneously and therefore spool up at the same time. There are only a few twin-turbo cars ever produced where one turbo spools up before the next. In the case of the Bugatti EB110 there were four turbos (!) - two small ones which spool up first and then two bigger ones which produce the bulk of the boost. Your turbos should therefore never spool up independently of each other. What you've been experiencing is probably a slipping clutch due to either low fluid (which reduces the oil line pressure) or burnt fluid (in which case you should have a slipping clutch all of the time). As has been said above, check the colour and smell of the fluid. Although this isn't a fool proof way of diagnosing burnt oil (some oils will only change colour if/when things get really bad so don't go on colour alone). HTH. Dan

Two Zed's in Redditch
The grey (actually silver) one was me! Was nice to finally get a wave (or thumbs up in this case) back when flashing my lights at a fellow Zed owner (usually get a blank stare ...) Nice to see you Steve! The wife and I were heading home after a thorough soaking walking back to the car from Homebase - I hate DIY! Dan

Exhaust Quandry
Yes, you can decat your car but you risk developing a "smoking" problem - decrease back pressure on the turbo seals which will let through oil if the seals are old and knackered. Expensive to fix as you'd ideally need to remove the engine to get to the turbos and replace the seals (at which point you might as well go for new turbos at an even greater expense ...) My suggestion would be start with a cat-back stainless steel system and then decat it at a later stage. I can supply two styles of Mongoose cat-back systems for £495 including next day delivery. Style one copies the "stock" look, ie - twin 3" tips either side of the car. Style two has one 6"x4" oval tip either side of the car. Both are fantastic systems, high quality, excellent fit and great deep sound. In the event you'd like to go for one of these (or just want to have a discussion about the options) please give me a call on the number below. All the best, Dan PS - don't bother with a second hand standard system

H3c
From my own experience - I've had mine fitted over two years ago now - there is no problem with fitting 100W bulbs. The thing you need consider is that if you get regular H3 bulbs (from Halfords, etc) you'll need to solder on an additional lead to connect to an earthing point. This is not difficult but it is crucial you do it properly and use a high amp rated wire. There is a mod you can do to connect one of the screws on the bulb mounting plate but that requires taking the whole light unit out. The bulbs as pictured above are proper H3C bulbs which do not require any modifications as they already have two terminals. HTH Dan

induction kits
APEXERA (formerly A'PEXi) all the way. Like Chris says, you'll be lucky if your bhp increases more than 4bhp but what is more important is the increase in torque where it is needed most, ie - at low to medium rpms. The problem with filters getting wet is entirely down to water ingress from below (ie missing splashguard) and through the bumper/vented nose panel. Under the right conditions any filter will suffer water problems - this is not unique to APEXERA kits. We do these kits for £85 plus p/p and the next batch of kits should be available in the next 10 days. Cheers! Dan

Consult
Not tried the hardware but it appears to be the same as what is widely sold out of Australia/New Zealand, namely a cheap cable and even cheaper software. The datascan software is a very amateur bit of software which intermittently works on a variety of Nissans. Buyer beware: you get what you pay for. On the other side of the spectrum is our professionally designed and thoroughly tested ConZult. This bit of quality kit will allow you to perform ALL diagnostics, check and clear ECU error codes, clear the self-learn parameters, datalogging, power balance tests, solonoid tests, real-time sensor feedback, TPS and base idle resetting, timing and fueling tweaks, etc. Plus you get a proper user manual and full support. It's a fair bit more expensive at £265 but you do get something that is even better than Nissan's own Consult. As a matter of fact there are several Nissan franchise garages in the UK and Scotland which use our ConZult rather than Nissan's £8k Consult. ATB Dan

350Z Engine
Our bayside blue demo Zed has had the engine bored out to 3.2L by Kakimoto in Japan. Thing goes like the proverbial of a shovel! ;) Dan

G*** Ybu
Spooked me too! Mines the same reg as was Tooley's - both our cars are silver though. So how does that work then ... do all the cars that get imported at the same time end up with registration marks in sequence? I've now seen 5 Zeds with this registration but no other cars ... surely this can't be a coincidence ... Dan

Lambo Doors
That's the Knightsbridge ZX - parked at the back of our trade stand last weekend at JAE. Had a good look around it and although it's a good gimmick the quality of the hinges leave a lot to be desired and there is no contra weight to aid in raising or lowering the door. As the doors are one of the heaviest parts on the Zed you will need quite a strong arm to open and close it. Also, it opens about 12 inches like a normal door first before it can be swung open or closed. It's about time someone created aftermarket hinges to mimick the doors on the Konigsegg ... now that would be cool! Dan

JAE Billing V Peterborough??????
I think that for the size JAE has grown to the Billing Aquadrome venue is just not practical any more. I've been to Billing for about 4 years now and must agree that EoE does not have the same atmosphere - yet! From an organisational point of view John and Claire have done a superb job. I will be writing to them with my views on this past weekend and throw in some suggestions for 2006. In my opinion what let JAE down this year was the layout. The car clubs were on one side, traders on the other and you needed to walk miles to get anywhere. One of my suggestions for next year is to place the traders in the middle and the car clubs around the edge so that you need to walk through the other clubs and trade section to get to the other side. A lot of traders I spoke to said that they weren't seeing the same amount of people walking through as in previous years which was reflected in the absolute poor takings this weekend. Another suggestion I'll be making is to group all car brands together and avoid a situation like this year where the 350Z and Skylines were miles away from the 300 groups. All in all I think we need to remember that we are now "back to square 1" and things can only improve. All the best, Danny

biggest meet!!!
Not so my friend - at the Easter meet a few years ago we had a total of 35 Zeds at one point! That was at the same venue as you've described. Cheers! Dan

HID's
Thanks Andy! (cheque's in the post ... LOL just kidding ;)!) Yes, I have taken over the sale of HID kits on this forum from Mark at Outlander. You can use these for your dipped headlights and also for the fogs should you so desire. They can be supplied in all bulb fitments and come with everything you need to install. It's a straight forward swap (out with the old halogen bulbs and in with the new HID bulbs). Should take about an hour or so to do depending on how bendy your fingers are ... ;) These kits really are fabulous and are priced at £285 plus delivery. An upgrade you won't regret. I don't carry stock of these so delivery times may vary but have been roughly 10 days from receipt of funds. Give me a shout if I can be of any help. All the best, Dan

Twin HeadLights
Or if you really want to light up the road ahead buy an HID kit. Fortunately I sell those ;) £285 plus postage and about an hour worth of work. Direct replacements for the original halogen bulbs and comes with everything you need. Cheers! Dan

Datascan/conzult @ JAE
Come over to the DTA-Motorsport trade stand (opposite the Supra Mark IV stand and two down from Smithy's Place). We'll have ConZults galore as well as the guys who developed it! Although I haven't advertised it openly (to try and avoid a situation like last year where none of us had any chance at all to look around the show due to hectic ConZult check schedule) but we will be taking apointments for ConZult checks. Come and visit us and book your car in. Cost will be £10 per car and is for the check and some basic adjustments (if required). Anything more involved than adjusting the TPS, etc will be charged accordingly and in agreement with the owner. See you there! Dan

Put Me Off Buyng A 300zx
Blimey Matt - That's bloody awful. Don't throw in the towel just yet, it sounds as if this is the first 300 you looked at. My advise is to have a look at as many as you can. When I bought mine (back in 2001) I saw about a dozen or so 300's, all were invariably sheds and poorly maintained. But then I found what I was looking for - a well maintained, recently imported TT in silver. I paid slightly over the odds for it but it was worth it. These cars are notorious for going tits-up IF they are NOT maintained properly. And by that I mean regular oil changes, filter changes, lube jobs, etc. Remember, these cars are now coming up to 12-15 years old and they are allowed to go wrong. It used to be a £40k sports car when it first came out so the mechanics of the car are solid. What you need to do is not to buy the first car you come across - however tempting it may be. If at all possible, get a knowledgeable persone to come along and go over the car. Get the AA to do an inspection - you pay for it but at the end of the day it is a relative measure of peace-of-mind. Once you've decided to buy one immediately take it to a specialist and have the cambelt changed (along with the ancillary belts), change the spark plugs, oil filter, fuel filter, etc (ie, have it serviced) and give everything a good going over. It is important you get the car running properly before you consider doing any modifications to it (if indeed that is the way you want to go). Better yet, have a look in the Cars for Sale section to see if there are any member cars up for sale that meet your criteria. Especially if the car belongs to a longterm member you can be relatively sure it has been looked after properly. In the meantime, all the best with your car hunting! Dan

Rays alloys
You're right Stuart - I stand corrected :) All the best, Danny

Rays alloys
I'm not so sure they'll fit as the offset is quite a bit off. For a Z32 the offset is 35-42. Your best bet will be to see if you can trial-fit them ... it's the only way to be sure. Dan

2 and 2+2 difference exhaust
What I know of the two is that the 2+0 (or SWB) version is completely different from the cats back. The x-pipe is different and so are the bend angles to the back boxes. Unfortunately it is not just a case of taking a 2+2 exhaust and taking out a couple of inches (if only ... ;)) HTH Dan

Special Offers at JAE???
You'll just have to drop by and have a look on the day! I will be doing "certain" items at trade prices but won't elaborate on that right now - still awaiting confirmation of product availability from my suppliers. See you there! (I'm opposite the Supra Mark IV club space - as is Smithy!) Dan

NZR: The ultimate wedding car line up as seen this weekend
My wife and I were very privileged to have been invited to a Sikh wedding this past Sunday. I used to work with the bride and knew that she was marrying into a wealthy family but I didn't quite realise how wealthy the are. Picture this for the wedding car line up: 1x Rolls Royce Phantom (£300k - Father of the Groom's car and official wedding car) 1x Bentley GT (£165 customised - Groom's own car) 1x Porsche Carrera GT (£340k - Uncle's car) 2x Lambo Murciellago (£180k each - brother's car) 1x Merc SL65AMG (£170k customised - best man's car) I had tears in my eyes and wobbly knees as they drove into the temple complex and could have kicked my wife for not bringing a camera ... (I know, I could have brought one too but I forgot) I'm hopefully getting some pics via someone else at the wedding. Turns out the groom's family is one of the richest families in the Midlands. All in all we had a fantastic day, we were very honoured to have been invited and my motivation has just sky rocketed to make as much money as fast as I can to buy one of those Lambo's! ;) Anyone fancy a GB on polished speedo rings? Only £50k per set ;) :D 4 sets in stock ready to go! All the best! Dan
