  1. how did you go about prop and gearbox as thats what im still to do?

There im sure loads of threads about which oils are best to use,i would always use 1040 because the cars not new and depending on if its an everyday car as well,if thed cars a weekend job even more reason to use thicker oil as for your ticking your find once started from cold let it tick over a min as soon as engine hae warmed up and your tick will have gone,oh and make sure the correct amount is in do your dip stick in morning when engine is cold hope this helps
  3. once the props out then theres the box can anyone tell me what to expect or what to do next with the gearbox for engine out job.what i mean is do i just unbolt and ? sorry for sounding dumb
  4. Did you undo the centre two bolts or leaver them in then undo the six back one and pull oh did it go back in easy because im doing this myself no extra hands , cheers
  5. engine out job! i have spoke to 10 different people about this and they all say how hard and time consuming this is better engine out.
  6. Well done you because im diong the exact samr thing cause cant afford to get someone to do it for me and im in no great rush,and im quiet engoyiny myself with the challeng and the learing whilst you go. i cant help you on your question but how far down the line are you in taking it out?

At last the last two bolts i had to grind the barstuards off its now 3 20 its taken me nearly 3 hours to get the blood y exhaust off,oh well at least now i can see the propshaft.Right the cars on ramps and axle stands and choked up and i have spare wheels underneith at back just in case dont fancy being flatened and car is in secound gear and the handbreak has never been on so tight. Am i wright in saying undo the four bolts holding the middle of the prop together then the two witch hold the centre bearing thing and then that should drop down to give me enough space to pull out of gearbox or just leave it there and tie it of with steel cable ties? CHEERS

I have a 1990 tt uk lwb and i can tell you, i put my hand up at the rear bumper sills where the bumper bolts onto nothing there, sill had being bodged up more times than a tarts knickers get pulled down the rear end behind the tank every where even the tank feed pipe had a hole, went out spent 150 on small mig took of tank got some still and rebiult the lot now stronger all sealed oh and a secondhand tank 20 quid never looked back apart from the weild burns
  14. I think you put grease over the joint or thing that the boot covers then put the new boot on, thats what id do bet im wrong see im still learing myself good to get involved a
  15. do i need to take out the prop form the gear box or can i leave it in and what work do i need to do inside the car for this?
  16. ok that might be the job i can do tomorow the exhaust the the prop, But the car is on ramps and is ingear can i leave it there in 2nd gear and what do i need to do with the prop and wicth end.i havnt looked yet.
  17. Whats next the wiring is all unpluged and labeld that took absolutly ages.same with the pipes there must be about 50, the rads are out oil and water out. next ive got to go under the car so whats next in taken the engine out.? :)

  19. i unem i ared i asked for advise and got the pros and cons.Today was sunny and i said yesterday if not raining thusday ill have a go.. ITS OUT and took me a while with a few cuts and scaches but its gone and all that piping upto the bulkhead.And if anyone is thinking of doing this then i hope your double jointed that top bolt at the back took ages to get out.Anyway the Two pipes at the bulkhead once unbolted do i need to block them up or do i just leave them? :)

Well i am taking me engine out because im rebuilding my tubs and i dont think my air con ever worked anyhow but when summer is here and im out then the roof is of so never used and whilst the car has been of the road ive fitted a different front end and yet ive still to find and fit and afford a LFMIC so the only thing i stand to lose is cold air in the summer and yet the things im yet to gain is less weight ,less trouble , more engine engine cooling more air flow.and as for the fmic looking the tits
