  1. Hey everyone. I've not frequented these parts much for the last couple of years so many of the members won't know me or the car. However having completed the wide body zed with full retrim and AV around 2004, I took her apart to make some improvements and never got finished. A combination of working away and now some unfortunate developments in my personal life its time to pass her on to someone else. This was one of the wide body conversions done by PPS in North East and won runner up for best car, best install and best interior at JAE (I still have the fetching steering wheel trophies). I was only there one day so I think we had a good shout at the title if I'd been there all weekend. Obviously I would say this but she is/was an absolute beaut - I have spent thousands of pounds and thousands of hours on her over the years but she needs a little bit of TLC and I've just not got the time any more. So ... Basics: 300zx Z32 TT Targa 1995 M-reg JDM c80k miles Was silver, but resprayed to Daytona Blue (350Z colour). Exterior: - Full wide body conversion - Respray in Daytona Blue - "Viper" front bumper. I was first or second of the production line for this front end - Quad tail lights - Mirrored inserts in headlights - Project Khan 19" wheels with yokahama tyres Interior - Full black leather with blue stitch and blue alcantara retrim, including door cards, seats, and full dash. - Cobra front seats maintaining electric slide for driver side - Custom trio of body coloured gauge pods embedded in dashboard. - Targa covers and rear blind are intact. - Custom EL clocks (although the transformer has gone on them - see below) - Momo Millenium Evo steering wheel - Razo brushed aluminium gear knob Electronics. Over£3k of AV plus loads of custom stuff: - Pioneer in-dash screen with DVD/SatNav under arm. - Custom ipod/iphone slot in centre console allowing video/audio and charging from iPhone (although for the older pre-iphone5 connector) - Custom switchgear and illumination - Air con moved to centre console and all switches and buttons replaced with brushed steel with halo blue lighting - High end Focal speakers and tweeters fitted into a-pillars. - Pheonix Gold amps for speakers and subs. - Twin subwoofer pods in boot - but subs are not being sold. - Sigma M series alarm - HKS Turbo Timer Performance/Mechanical. I forget now what the technical changes where but they included: - Replacement exhaust (need to try and find the details but was the best twin pipe system I could find at the time) - Adjustable spring/shock (eibach I think but I will try and find out) - Clutch/Flywheel (RPS/Fidanza I think but again will need to dig out the details) - A'pexi intake - Powertrix adjustable upper front arms - Uprated discs and pads. - I also had the twin intake from smithy but removed it as the way I had fitted it was rattling. Now the bad bits ... She hasn't been taxed/tested since 2006! I took the car off the road to re-do some of the work that had been done previously (mostly electronics). Unfortunately I also got married, had 2 kids and started a career path of working away all week (not related to previous points!) just after that and have never managed to get the work finished. Car has been kept most of this time in an industrial unit I rent and I have started her and driven round the estate regularly. She starts first time and runs very well. I moved her up to the house recently to try and get the job done there but I am realising that its just not going to happen. Someone with more time will make an awesome job of finishing her off. So the work to be completed off the top of my head: - brakes have stopped working - from the look of it, its the master cylinder gone (has the tell-tale signs of rust on the housing). I believe this is a fairly straightforward job. - handbrake cable has stretched as I have been using this to stop the car when pulling in and out of the garage since the brakes stopped working. Probably just needs to be adjusted but would probably replace it. - I had some custom brushed steel dash panels made up to replace the body coloured panels that were made initially. These need to be bent into shape and installed however the body coloured panel could be used easily enough. - Clocks need to be repaired or replaced. They have had the resistor change made to read MPH but the transformer for the after market EL gauges broke and so the clocks are currently out of the car. - There seems to be a problem with passenger side door lock in that power lock opens it but does not close it. - Door cards need to be re-fitted. The Passenger door card to be fitted once door lock issue is fixed. The Driver door card was off as I modified the driver door card so that it has a pull handle (alcantara trimmed obviously) to match the passenger side instead of the coin tray door pull. The handle is from a LHD zed. The bracket is on the door and this should be a straightforward fit but some regluing of the leather required as I had to peel it back a bit in order to cut the door handle holes in the door. - Passenger side a-pillar clip has broken off and needs replacing. - The custom gauges in the dash. The Boost is working but the others (oil temp and water temp) are not. The wire that was run to the temp sensors looks to have come off the crimp connector. Should be a simple job but looking at the state of the wire I'd be tempted to run a new length through the firewall and back to the - The rubber along bottom of driver door has a small split in it. It looks like someone at some point has tried to steal it at some point. I have a replacement rubber that I have never got round to fitting. - The two short rubber trims that run from rear of targa tops to boot lid are missing. Again I have replacement rubbers that I have never got round to fitting. - The alcantara handbrake gator I had made with the retrim has split. I have a leather one that I got with the car which could be used but a replacement blue alcantara one would look best. She sounds like a shed I know, but genuinely isn't and turns heads even as she is now. I am sitting on an offer of £1500 to be broken for parts which would kill me so am looking for someone to fix her up and enjoy. Obviously as the car is without MOT/Tax it would need to be transported. There is someone I have used previously who is near to me and I am happy to get a price but buyer would need to pay transport. I will try and get some of the above done in the next couple of days and get some better photos, but here are a couple to whet your appetite: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ipz2o4h28ujev01/2013-02-21%2017.40.03.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/sc9511nh0f5ivyi/2013-02-21%2017.41.12.jpg?dl=0 Any questions please ask. Richard
  2. Cheers man. I'll get some ordered and see how it goes ... or might send them to Groover for the full treatment. Either way need some new clocks first.
  3. Just had another look at it. The battery warning light is the same size as the back lighting ones behind the speedo and rev counter. Does a t10 wedge bulb/led fit into these larger plastic screw/twist lock bulb holders?
  4. Hi everyone I'm LED converting the zed dash including all of the warning lights, and was wondering if anyone knew the fitment for the 'battery warning light' bulb? All the rest are T5 (and I got hold of some T5 fitment LEDs) but this is a bigger fitment. I've read all the stickies but can't find reference to this bulb (or were to get it in LED form). Also I have the additional illumination lights along the bottom of the plastic surround. these have a row of flat T5 bulbs where the plastic holder doesn't protrude much. Has anyone found LED versions of these? Also (I'll post separately for this) but the reason I am soon this is that my indiglo a have failed and I can't find the original clock faces. Does anyone have a set (or a aet of clocks) they want to sell me? It's a 1996 JDM import. Thanks Rich
  5. oh you little beauty!!! I was wondering why my intermittent wiper hadnt been working - I've got the dash apart at the minute for some other stuff and all the wiring seems to be fine - BUT I got this panel out of the car at the minute and the box is disconnected I reckon that'll be why :). Cheers!!
  6. Cheers guys - I only just saw this :). Shucks lol!!
  7. Happy Birthday Smithy mate!!
  8. Cheers guys. Basically its been trickle charged for ages but I was doing some work on it and was stop starting throughout the day so it was probably pretty depleted anyway. Forgot to put trickle charger on and came back a week later to dead battery. Charged it for a bit, came back next day and it was dead again. So checked residual and it showed some current. Good to know thats normal. Cheers again. Rich
  9. I've been working on the zed and I noticed the battery has been going flat while its not been used. Did a check (ammeter in line with battery +ve) and when ignition is off its still drawing about 0.18A. Is this normal??? Rich
  10. Hi mate, not 100% sure about this but if there was a relay in there in the first place it maybe there for a reason. Typically that would be because the circuit you are switching (i.e. the horn in this case) draws more current than the switch (on steering wheel) and its wiring is rated for. In worst case this can lead to fire. In this case it should be ok as I cant imagine a horn draws much current and it is not constantly on in the same way headlights are (am sure someone more informed on here will advise), but I would urge caution on bypassing any of the the proper looms, fuses and relays. Rich
  11. Oh and happy belated birthday Riddick!
  12. to be fair mate I reckon giving the dog "cak" is going to be worse than giving him chocolate ;).
  13. Yeh mine too - never missed a beat (I guess you can have bad experiences with any car). Took mine to Spain last year for a road trip down to my brother's wedding. Not the cheapest road trip I ever did but probably the most comfortable :)). That said they do have a couple of issues ... the nice silver side-steps corrode and pit badly and arent cheap to replace, and you have to take the front headlights out to change front indicator bulbs ... BMW charged my other half 100 quid to do it when I was away last time ... :s. Then again Fifth Gear exposed Renault for the same behaviour on one of their newer models last year so BMW arent alone. There is no excuse though, its not like there is a shortage of space under the hood (you could maybe excuse Nisssan for doing that on the Z32 :)).
  14. Hi mate couldnt agree more!! I bought the 4.4 sport last year cos the missus wanted something that could tow her pony trailer and I needed a comfortable daily driver. They really do drive well. Really quick and excellent handling (better than most saloon/coupes I wouyld say). I drive the Alston road to Preston every Monday (weather permitting) and its great fun round there. I know there is a bit of a stigma attached to Beemers and 4x4s and especially Beemer 4x4s but who cares :). Rich
  15. i always fancied doing this - how much work is involved in removal and replacement of plenum? is it a huge job?
  16. Hey Alan, there is no to-ing and fro-ing between your satnav unit and the satellite. Basically all of the satellites emit a signal that the sat-nav units pick up. They then use the different signals to calculate their position, and by analyzing the rate of change in position, can calculate your speed (and direction). So as someone said before, there is no delay other than the processing of the various signals and displaying on the screen. Hard acceleration or deceleration will be slightly less accurate but at a steady speed it should be spot on. Hope that helps. Cheers Rich
  17. Aye mate sounds good!!! Hopefully will have been all machine polished by then too so with luck will be back to her best :).
  18. Hi mate. Yeh still got her. Been meaning to sell for ages so been getting some jobs finished over Easter and planning to put her up for sale. Going to enjoy a few weeks driving first though :). You well?
  19. Transaction ID: 34E32899GM3722800 Cheers Rich
  20. Not me personally ... just spoke to a friend with two kids ... his wife (architect) was laid off last week and he was laid off today. Doesnt know how he is going to pay the mortgage at the end of the week. I dont think this is an unusual story, especially in construction, at the moment.
  21. ahhh man I'd have been up for this. That road from Hexham to Penrith is the best!!! I work in Preston so commute each week and that's my Monday morning treat ... a 6am blast across the pennines!!! Wakes you up that's for sure!! Rich
  22. ok no problems mate. I think you are right about the doors. those back seats are in great nick - i dont reckon they've ever been sat in :)
  23. Hi mate the vultures are descending already :). If your passenger door card (including the fixed pull handle) is up for grabs how much do you want for it? Cheers Rich
  24. God I just did the same. Have to say I was really disappointed in all the people saying to screw him over and make a claim for whiplash. I'm not normally one to get on my soapbox but that kind of attitude really boils my piss. At the end of the day people make mistakes (its called an accident for a reason). I've fortunately never been in that position (causing an accident) but I'd be so pissed off if I did nudge someone and they got out completely fine and we swapped details and then their insurer gets in touch regarding whiplash claims. I've been hit on a roundabout, spun round and up a kurb but wouldnt dream of claiming for anything unecessarily. Jesus we're always complaining about how high our insurance is and THIS kind of thing has to be a big contributor!!!
