Fit HID headlights and get 3 points and £50 fine!
UK cars have self leveling of the beam fitted which explains Hella wanting £875 for a conversion for a current BMW. Self leveling is arguably not an issue on a zed as its hardly likely to have half a tonne of floor tiles from B&Q in the boot. Even a fat bloke in the drivers seat is unlikely to upset the beam. Plus zeds have headlamp washers anyway. Prolly the Hella bod seeing his £875 aftermarket price being destroyed by Ebay is the real motivation for this.

If it gets better as it warms up it points more to the prop centre bearing and possibly also saggy hard transmission mount. Generally those vibes were felt from 40ish to 60 ish and smooth out as you go faster

Fit HID headlights and get 3 points and £50 fine!
Read some waffle that a xenon HID headlamp mod is illegal and subject to 3 points £50 fine, invalid insurance and failed MOT. Some waffle about not self levelling and no headlamp washers - at least that doesnt apply on zeds. Is this true?

just got me new tyres
Boy I'd be out measuring the inside edge of the tread every week to make sure the Z neg camber didnt wipe out that expensive inside edge. The thought of 285mm of good tread and a bald bit of 30mm after 2000 miles! and they dont foul the wheel arches? My 265s dont leave much room.

Mending dints and bodywork imperfections
Watched a dent devils guy take out quite a deep dent in the door of my neighbours scooby. The paint was undamaged tho and stayed that way. He used all kinds of unusual (for me) tools such as a candle sized white nylon gizmo sharpened to a point. Tapping all around the dent. He totally brought it out and you couldnt see where it was. Charged about £40 for about an hours work. Seemed very cheap but maybe he was looking for business from us interested onlookers.

Battery replacement
I put in a Halfords calcium one on my uk tt and its much smaller for the same amps. Was only £45 on some 20% off offer at the time. I chucked the case with the polystyrene heat shield etc and I think that was a bad idea. The turbo on that side really cooks the side of the battery and you need to have some kind of heat insulation there or the battery wont last long. I put in a barrier to shield the battery again.

Taken me 3 years and 3 sets of front tyres to finally cure vibration on 18" BBS RSIIs. I was starting to believe a wheel was buckled or a wheel bearing was duff Secret was having someone who could achieve zero on the balance machine with minimum weights used and also the fact that it his machine was recently calibrated. Maybe we are all too fussy. My so called balanced wheels were 35 to 50 grams out. At first he says he had got it down to 5 grams and I wouldnt feel it but then once he said he could actually get zero thats what I wanted. So thats what you should ask for too. Smooth a silk any speed whereas vibration was about 75-85 meaning you either went too fast or too slow to avoid it.

Swirl pot
If something is wrong with your cooling system then this wont fix it. If it works right then this thing is not needed. Either way whats the point? If you want uprated cooling go with a UK TT radiator as it has 30% more cooling on it than the import TT one. Your worry would be from pressure coming from a blown head gasket or overheating from a clogged radiator matrix.

Anyone thinking of going to MP3.....
All you need is a little stereo FM radio transmitter to plug into your mp3 headphone socket. £20 of Ebay delivered. Amazing quality low distortion and everyone within 50 metres of you can tune in as well! Not legal in UK afaik. I've tried it with a palm loaded with mp3s and it works great. You just have to program a radio preset to it.

How does a JWT chip affect insurance?
Only early zeds had a socketted ecu. Once you chip it you need to get the ecu socketted to plug in the new chip so if its not socketed its not chipped but if it is it might lead to suspicion that it most likely is chipped if you see what I mean. Then its not so hard to prove.

How does a JWT chip affect insurance?
Mine wanted another £320 ish for it so I forgot the idea. If you dont declare it you are not legally insured. If you try to plead ignorance it doesnt matter. A neighbour who had a Escort cossi with a wiring loom fire found that out. When he bought the car he believed it to be totally stock and not chipped and he knows modding as he also had a totally OTT GTIR but the insurance assessor went straight for the ecu in the cossie and opened it and found it was actually chipped. Instant cancelled policy, at least he got his premium back but he had to pay the damage himself. The real worry is if you injure someone or worse. Its no good some clever clogs saying you can quickly rip out the chip and the boost jets before the assessor sees it. Assessors know exactly what to look for with all cars in order to escape a claim if they see a need to. Maybe a low value claim will get by unnoticed but big money I'm not so sure.

Tomtom Navigator
I've got one on a palm. The voice directions are great but to really work well you need one of those FM transmitter gizmos to plug into it then it comes out loud and clear through your stereo. Those things are great for re transmitting mp3s from the palm as well. Sound quality is excellent. 20 quid on Ebay.

Uneven running at idle
If you know where the tps (throttle position sensor) is on the passenger side air intake to the plenum and a waggle of the wires under the connection to it makes the tickover settle down to where it should be then its nothing serious. Might help with a discount tho. take it your not a scimitar owner - I just sold mine!

new alloys
Have 18 X 8.5" on the front with 235/40 X 18 and 18 X 10.5 rear with 265/35 X 18. No difference to your turning circle. No rubbing. Mine's not lowered. Some go to 285/30? X 18 rear. If you lower it the low profiles become very sensitive to camber and eat the inner edges very fast. Handling is good on my stiff UK spec. Ride a little harsh tho

Yes!!!!
Welcome and hope you become a long term member. Sounds a nice one. Just remember the power and give it respect if you've been used to something less vicious. Remember stock traction control is "lift your foot off the loud pedal fast" type especially during a brown trousers moment and more so after coming off a wet roundabout a little too fast! Some peeps get paralysed and leave it down while the lamp post tries to get through the passenger door. They seem to think they can drive out of it!

white smoke, noisey autobox
Re check the dipstick. It will pop out with the pressure if its overfilled. - Mine did it.
-
Oil Pressure what should it be?
std guage has a sensor that only lasts about 40k miles then measures lower and lower occasionally measuring normal for a while. Look inside the oil filler at hot tickover and re assure yourself there is pressure. It should be flooding with oil in there.,

white smoke, noisey autobox
Might be overfilled - you have to check the level properly.

Wet Floor
Watch the rear wheel arch on UK cars - for some reason the drivers side goes before the passenger side - seen this on 2 or 3 cars. The dreaded little bubble on the outside is a sign that its rotted through both skins into the inside of the arch. Also the rain lately was pretty horendous and while driving I had the occasional drip onto my arm from the door seal and mines is bone dry inside.
