200sx before the Z?
2 S13's for me too. Both were very cheap to buy but needed new engines after a couple of weeks!! (Maybe it's my driving). Made the mistake of selling my Z32 but am looking for another now!!!

It's time to say goodbye.....
    Well I'd never thought I'd see this day. I've just sold my Zed and PX it for a bloddy MPV! This is a sad day. I was resigned to the fact that I could not afford to keep changing the blooding heater matrix!!! I was not getting the enjoyment out of her anymore and I have a growing family to consider so she had to go. I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your help this past year  I'd manage to get over many hurdles with your help and am very grateful for the experience. I will miss my Zed but I now have the bug, I hope it's not too long before I get another and will be back!!! Watch this space..... Farewell, I will still be browsing the forum and joining in where I can.

cat light on dash
Mine is de-catted but the two sensors are tucked away underneath and this light sometimes comes on when they detect the heat from the exhaust! :-). Might be worth checking to see if you do have cats.

rear water hoses
I have a similar problem at the back right of the engine. Drips onto hot metal and steams up a treat but doesn't seem to do it unless I have driven her hard. Let me know how much it cost you to sort out as mine is too intermittent for me to worry yet! Plus I might be selling her this week :-(

Mark's Track Day Pics :D

Overheating again!!!
Thanks for that. Bypass done and no more leaks!! Car is running well now. I still have my doubts about the head gasket but it's going back in the garage next week to have the earthing checked and hopefully sorted!! Until then...

Overheating again!!!
Had the engine running and put the - on the battery - and the + down the filler bottle to the expansion tank. Should I put it in the RAD and then start her up and see what the reading is then?

Overheating again!!!
Well I've just completed the electro test on the coolant to get a reading of 0.02. I don't think this is the problem. I suspect it may well be air getting into the system. Just took her for a hard run, not overheating but engine sounds like I boiling kettle afterwards and a small leak into the footwell. I'm gonna get the heater by-passed on Wednesday and I'll get a compression test done to. I think whatever the outcome, I'm gonna get shot of her......I may be without a Zed by the end of next week but have to consider the fact I have a family to support and no money left!!

Overheating again!!!
That's a great article. Many thanks for your help on this Hans. One more worrying question though........Nissan told me I had a small leak at the head gasket last year but I did nothing about it. Since replacing my last matrix I have been suffering alot from air locks and also intermittent leaks from under the bonnet but I have never had oil in my water or water in my oil!! Could my head gasket be faulty for almost a year and not actually break? Hoses popping and air gurgling noises seem common on my car but never amount to anything 'major' apart from of course these matrix problems. Can I get the a head gasket repaired without the expence of a replacement?

Overheating again!!!
OK. I'm not a mechanic. Should I take it somewhere or buy a meter and start checking. Where should I start? I have noticed that I have no earth (black) wire in my loom. Is this normal for a Jap Spec?

Overheating again!!!
I thought as much! Any ideas why it has only lasted 6 months? Dodgy part or something causing it?

Overheating again!!!
Noticed the needle creeping up again when stuck in a queue. I've noticed recently that my heating has been working intermittently. When I press the Auto button I sometimes get a 'ping' noise from the driver's footwell. Sounds like the spring that opens the heater core valve doesn't always work. Checked under my mat and my footwell is all wet. I changed the matrix myself back in november but have a feeling that this one is on the way out too. Would a 'sticking' valve cause it to leak or could it be the matrix has broken again. Any ideas what would cause this after 6 months? I will get it replaced under warranty from Nissan but fear something could be causing them to pop!!! Any advise??

Warning Light
Driving to work this morning (fast), I suddenly heard a 'thud' under the car. Carried on thinking it may just be some debris but couldn't see anything on the motorway. After a while a red warning light came on the dash. After looking through some past posts I think it's the CAT overheating light (I have a Jap Spec TT). Anyway, got to work with no problems, got out and looked under the car to see a cable broken in half and hanging down. My questions is, my car does not have CAT's and the previous owner has confirmed this. What else can cause this light to come on? I will be taking her to the garage this week to have the cable checked/replaced anyway but I am just wondering what it could be as the car seems fine? Do you think I should be okay driving back home?

Blue Zed in Barry, South Wales
Why is it, that when I am not driving my Zed I see so many others. A nice blue K reg Zed leaving Morrison's in Barry.

Heater Matrix
This was difficult. As you can see it links to the fan assembly on the passenger side. Make sure all of the screws have been removed along the bottom of the passenger's footwell. Rather than remove all the vents and bits from the passenger side I used brute force to remove it!! May need a helping hand flexing the plastic. Putting it back is harder!!! Almost there......best of luck!

Heater Matrix
I've heard the Matrix for the US car will be different so I bought mine for just over £200 from my local Nissan Dealer. Did the job myself last November. I'm not a mechanic and it is a scary job to do but I did mine myself and was pleased I saved myself so much money. It's all working fine now and I'm really happy with the result. My only advise is take your time and don't give up. A couple of times I thought I was never going to finish it or I'll forget how it all goes back together. I first tried to follow the instructions from the Aussie site who rekon you can do it without removing the dash, but I found it easier to remove the dash. You have to dismantle the new matrix to do it the Aussie way and I didn't fancy damaging a new one!! Just keep at it and good luck!!

This should cheer you lot up!

Heater Question, again!
Since replacing my matrix, every time I start the car, I can hear the coolant filling up the matrix. It does this every time. My question is, should it be doing this? Is it supposed to stay in there or return to the engine/rad once the engine is off? Any ideas? Dom

The Z in the snow
Since replacing my heater matrix in November, I still hadn't connected the hoses back up. Until today!!! Went straight to the garage and asked them to do it asap! Now it's back, i'm in total bliss!! I'd forgotten what it felt like to have heat!!! Ended up turning it off 'cos i was getting TOO hot!!!! Anyway, once I'd defrosted my door and put the HOLD switch on the AUTO. Drove home fine in the sleet but we are still yet to have REAL snow so i am bracing myself for the trip to work in the morning!!
