Quick Q about pin 44 on the ECU
Never been fond of leaving pin 44 earthed as such when doing a manual conversion, if the neutral switch is not working or just not wired in I think its best left disconneted otherwise the ecu always things your in neutral. The slightly raised tick over can be compensated for anyhow and provided you know to read 25deg btdc when checking the timing its not an issue. Jeff TT

Spare parts "Kicking around"
Seems a popular expression we hear often and I see just as often right here, it is when parts are been requested for and asked if there are any "kicking around" ? Well had me thinking why would we be treating parts like this and if we did would you guys still buy them? I think I have the answer! and by the power of the Internet and some dodgy photo-shop work we have some famous and some less famous sports player`s endorsing our very own Nissan 300zx air flow meters and in the now commonly used term they certainly are "kicking around" Jeff TT

Hissing noise
Leaking clutch pedal booster? check by disconnecting vaccum pipe under the bonnet by the clutch master cylinder and blow into it if its failed that will account for the different (lumpy) tickover as its drawing in air after the afm, you can drive with it disconnected (pipe blocked off ) but the clutch will be heavier, second hand they are rare to find, new about £400 from Nissan.....ouch! Collapsed lower rad pipe (again) warning
Last year I posted some pics of how the lower rad hose can fail internally and gets sucked in, again an example of this is clear to see, I know this is not a new problem but well worth checking, best to check 30 mins or so after a run to see if this is effecting your zed, we all know how serious it can be if cooling issues are left unchecked. on fire !
Unlikely unless you have not used the car, in the cases I have come across with wiring/ connection issues the coil pack frys itself quite quickly ( less than 10 miles) could be a new intermittent fault though, the ptu / ecu do not have the ability to cause this issue as they only output trigger signals, check the coil pack power supply cables have not been reversed though, the issue we have seen is when the trigger cable and power cable have been reversed hence the coil pack gets 12v+ down the trigger circuit. Jeff

on fire !
Seen that before, usually means there is either a fault on the cable to that coil pack or the coil pack connetcors have been changed and the cables mixed up, the bizzare thing is thecoil pack will work until it overheats and bang!! Jeff tt

should this slip
There has definately been slipping going on, evidence is clear to see on both the flywheel and the clutch cover, the set up does looks quite stock to be fair, hard to be certain but the contact area on the flywheel should be raised but it looks quite worn, this will reduce the unloaded grip and could be part of the problem as could be a wrongly adjusted clutch pedal. Jeff

Clutch slip
The gearbox has an inspection panel on the top its just in there. Mixing upgraded and standard clutch parts can cause issues but without seeing it I cannot say for sure, any chance of some pics? Open Monday first thing, have seals etc in stock, do you know which clutch you want, 25% upgrade or puck clutch? Jeff TT

Clutch slip
Slipping can be caused by the worn flywheel or the clutch pedal been over adjusted, or the master cylinder not return valve not allowing fluid to flow back hence keeping the clutch depressed a little, more over the stuck in reverse bit is a concern its normally caused by a broken detent spring inside the top section of the box, would be a good idea to check it out whilst the box is down, would be a pain for it to be a problem later, especially as the parts are pennies. When the new clutch is fitted check the pedal adjustment, oh and skimming the flywheel flat will remove the plate boss section and reduce the clutch pressure and its ability to grip as much, most likely not noticable with a new clutch and standard boost but a little later with some extra boost it will show out, if the flywheel is that bad consider fitting a new one. all four wheel alignment.
If you changed just the hicas arms you only need to check the rear tracking, we use a simply drive over system as the rear steering uses a ram rather than a geared rack so is much easier. Jeff TT

Non turbo running fault fun tech thread
Always an interesting day in the workshop, a not seen before item came to our attention, take a look at the engine photo of a n/a see if you can see anthing wrong, there had been a series of running issues caused by bad throttle balance poor temp sensor connection and det sensor issue, however there still remains two faults which are the direct cause of hestitation, very poor mpg, a constant bucking and miss firing feel when driving unless the lightest and slowest of throttle was used. Any guesses? Jeff TT

can some one help with MAF ..
Mark you have your fuel lines mixed up, you presently have the fuel supply from the filter piped to the original fuel regulator area and this should be piped to the damper with the fuel regulator been the last part of the outgoing pipework, with all of the tech advise we have given you over the phone accounts for nothing if the basic set up is wrong. new windscreen cost
We have had many front screens removed from breakers by a local windsceen company once the trims are stripped out they get the screen out in 15mins or 20 mins to remove and refit into another car they charge around £120. but they can supply and fit a new blue one for around £245. Jeff TT

V8 Conversion
Thought the exact same thing, Sonic006 if I can give you any advice is to NOT do this, this is a rare conversion in the UK and it takes skills you say you do not have, equipement and tools that I guess you do not have and most of all time and non of us have enough of that matey! You mention how well your zed runs now with a good strong engine etc. so why change it? I am all for diy learning and adventure but really do you want maybe 2 years of building the project so no zed for that time? Use it and enjoy it as is, and if you ever decide to sell it, many more potential buyers would be availble to you , Good luck in what ever you decide. Jeff
